I really think part of why the Hbox hate got so heated was Leffen fanning the flames even after Hbox tried to settle whatever beef leffen had with Hbox. The "beef" was Leffen using Hbox hate for clout. he even got another player to basically lie on his stream about Hbox being a dick. Like Leffen has a whole history of feeding off controversy for PR. see: Leffen convincing a girl to lie about Zero when he rightfully got in trouble for being a sex pest to look like he was trying to show solidarity which while Zero did a lot of gross shit, lying about it just hurts the victims who need that platform. Or using his twitch chat to go harass streamers who publicly disagree with him. I really think he's given a lot of toxic players a place to be low key toxic that's having a real negative effect on the community. What bugs me the most (much like the zero thing with introducing doubt in victims stories for the chance to use it to seem like a good guy) he's still pretending he's changed and he doesn't toxic shit anymore. Leffen doing so could potentially hurt actual people who decide they don't wanna do toxic shit anymore because it just introduces doubt into the idea of people trying to redeem themselves. The only reason people don't call him out more is he has a mob of twitch followers who will go harass people who start stirring shit. HBox got bullied and I really feel a lot of that can be traced back to Leffen using his platform and bad feelings that already existed to try and ruin his public image.

IMO Hungrybox never deserved any of the hate he got, dude just enjoyed playing and wanted to show the world how good he truly was. The person who threw that crab is a sad soul and wanted a reaction out of him. IF that crab actually HIT HB then there would've be a mighty law suit headed that persons way. Rewatching that tournament makes me realize just how truly toxic people can be. I still think HB deserved a way better reaction, he crawled his way back up after losing. He never deserved a crustacean thrown at him :(

The Hungrybox moment is still definitely not "hilarious" in hindsight. I've been a melee fan for over a decade and the community was SERIOUSLY toxic to hbox for a long time. The poor guy was attacked for everything, win or lose. One of my favourite esports athletes of all time in part due to rising above the hate. Edit: its nice scrolling through comments and seeing the same sentiment. The crab throw is like an iconic moment in his history for standing up against that shit. He was straight up bullied for years and took it on the chin while still being one of the most emotional players in the game.
