Watchers of the channel commented that the time-lapse walk across the island - from West to East - in this episode (48) was too fast. We've since removed this sequence, re-edited it and posted the footage in its entirety (22 mins) as a standalone episode. This can be found here: 'Join Us On a Walk Across Our Island': kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5-8d3ueab16i6M

Found yer site by happy happenstance. Lived on the largest island in the straight between Vancouver Island and the mainland, British Columbia, Canada. Texada Island. No electricity, kerosene lamps, Wood heat stove on one side of the wall, wood cook stove on the other side (shared chimney). Whoever lived in the house before had piped cold running water from a swamp, on the other side of the swamp below the house, to the faucet in the kitchen (house was on the side of a hill above a swamp, with the other swamp raised a little above that one, about 3/4 of a mile away. They ran black 1 1/2 inch pipe, covered with increasingly smaller screen at the intake, to the faucet = gravity-feed.) Didn't get to plant a garden. We were only there from August to May. Locals said winters were mostly rainy. Got snowed in until November - March! That was 48 years ago. Life intervened & never got back to "Paradise". Since I have found you two, will be living vicariously through you. ❤❤

I do adore the videos. Fast motion made me stop watching because I get sick, sad. But then I am back to enjoy the rest of the story 😊. I am from Grand Rapids Michigan and we also collect wood for heating our home and love the heat and working with the wood. Our stove is a Hearthstone, soap stone and cast iron with a glass window. 🌸

Great to see what you are doing in the Scottish highlands. Keep the Belfast sink outside for cleaning fish & vegetables maybe make an outdoor kitchen you have plenty of useful items to use, don’t get rid of anything that can be repurposed particularly for the garden. I’d recommend investing in some fishing waders great for keeping dry in the rain & muddy areas. Looking forward to seeing all your projects

I've never heard a deer bark before. I don't think our deer here know how to do that. Your outdoor shower is kind of ingenious. Chilly, but ingenious. Necessity is the mother of invention. Of course, cobbling it together is also man's "ingenuity" that saves him from doing it properly the first time.

It is a good thing that all the rain you get doesn't turn to snow because you would need a snowmobile just to get around and the melting in the spring would cause even more drainage problems. Looking forward to seeing Scott's office develop, I know that my "mancave" is my place for projects, work and relaxing. We have several deer that are on the property where we are, our dog loves checking out the tracks.

Old tubs like that are perfect for carrots and parsnips, but take a lot of compost ...huegel culture half way up could be an option, but would still need topping up as the wood rotted.I've tried many Parsnip varieties and always go back to 'Gladiator' ...and Carrot 'Yellowstone' are probably the best ive tasted, you'd get a few kilo from that...and the metal tub that Scott found washed up

The stove is burning so hot the chimney will be clean, wood is best burned on a bed of it's own ash, maybe remove the grate? it would make the fire area deeper, ideally you need thin fire brick or fire cement in the base. As another follower suggested freeing up the rusted parts being very careful to not break the castings. I think it vital you free up the air slide at the bottom of the door to have control of the fire it will be very different with the door sealed with the new glass. Suggest research into wood stoves, plenty of info on line. You are making a real success of the channel keep up the good work.

In the summer, dig up around your bridge and put in a PBC pipe with a large flange at the top and place it down and under your bridge. Then when it clogs up from leaf and dirt you can poke with a long metal pole and push through to the bottom of the pipe the clog and clean it away.
