I have just found your videos and am completely transfixed by them as I know exactly where you are having stayed almost next door on the main land and taken many walks in the area I stumbled upon the track down to the island.My good friends aunt used to live in your house and I couldn’t believe it when I saw this! Worry not, your secret is safe with me. However I am very envious of your location. 😊

We used a clear boat type varnish on our oak block work tops.. it’s really good, only turns the wood a little darker, not orange or yellow, and protects from water and stains. Worth a try 👍 your counter tops look lovely sanded back

I would put the patch directly on the breeze blocks, once it's full of water the weight will force it to seal. Nice to have all that water storage, even Scotland can get dry spells through the summer.
@crf9993
@crf9993 4 ай бұрын
Suggestion. Instead of building up breeze blocks. Drain the left hand tank , when looking from below. Move it as far left as the platform will allow. then nestle / interlock your new tank into the gap between the two old tanks. I think it would fit and be fully supported, save a load of building work and expense. Do it this time of year and you will soon fill up again.

The patch on the water tank looks still ok. If you have a product called “Bondo” that we have it here in the US for repairing dents in cars. Take your wire wheel to clean up and get as much silicone off then use the “Bondo” all over the whole patch. We used it here to repair our kayaks when the bottoms wore a hole in them. Sticks to that plastic really well. Inexpensive fix.

If you got free access to LIDAR maps of your part of the country, you could use it to survey the area above the cottage. It's amazing how well small, man made features, pops up in the map. Probably you can see the path the people walked up to the well. -As you describe the wet ground , I suspect you may have a sort of a spring, and not a deep well. If that's the case, you could presume the well beeing placed as high as possible in the wet area. Got such a spring at my own cottage. The well isn't deeper that 50cm. I have never run dry, even during the driest summer in my memory.

"Butcher-block and cutting board conditioner": best stuff for your hardwood kitchen countertop. Read the ingredient list, but the brand I use (Howard's, certainly available through Amazon) is "food safe", can be a bit pricey. Katie calling "Hellooo" into the echo chamber of the cistern... No one can resist the allure; like singing behind a whirling fan for the vibrato effect. As with every relationship, we take turns in the division of labour. I hope that much is clear from the rest of the 50-odd videos; but Scott does ALL of the editing, I can't take credit for it. Sometimes he's been in his office for 11/12 hours, just getting one video done, which may account for why you sometimes see me by myself getting stuck into other tasks.

I just love your Scottish island life, and the great love you have for each other and what you’re doing. Having almost finished the video, I feel compelled to say that you should seriously change your plans to replace your oak worktops with cedar. Cedar just doesn’t work well being so soft, and also holding oils if it’s own, so making a barrier between it and food can be challenging. Better to save cedar for cabinets, shelves, and inside closets and ciupboards where it can work to protect against insects and rot. Perhaps consider staining and then using mineral oil.

Maybe you're living on top of a huge underground city and the electrical generators are buzzing close to the surface. Either that or it's a prepper who thought the end of the world was coming and he sealed himself in a silo. The best thing to clean wood kitchen surfaces is salt and a good stiff brush. Then oil it with food grade linseed oil. If you don't like the orange oiled surfaces, what about tiling it? Or, make a huge cutting board out of oak. The more dust or smoke in the atmosphere, the more color you getvin the sunrises and sunsets.

It is fantastic to see the calm and 'time to think' phases of your videos. Be careful, I think the animals are starting to realise their popularity! You could be facing a take over. Walking out with the sheep and the cat, I thought it looked like fun! They were more behaved then some children I observe! You are still emanating the chance to bring happiness into everything you do, regardless of physical challenges constantly presenting themselves. I loved the wood, but having talked about ticks there is surely a danger of wood worm- if it is not sealed and protected some how! I think there are wood stains, which make wood look lighter in colour. Just an idea, the blade, which can hurt the thumbs...what about a couple of small layers of masking tape across the edge you hold?
