I never liked Hallmark movies much, but until this video I didn’t realize so many of them were secretly horror movies lmao. Before I watched this I just thought they were extremely formulaic, lacked deep characters, and I had lots of little problems with how the characters treated each other. The comparison of a bunch of them back-to-back makes the propaganda element of it obvious and it’s extremely unnerving

Having never seen a hallmark type film out of innate repulsion I am glad to know I can trust my gut. I really enjoy your long form video essays. You are doing lots of things right in my humble opinion. I hope you add some 000's to your subscriber count next year. You certainly deserve it.

Happy Holifays to you too 🥳❤️ also now I wanna write a get out/Stepford wives horror film about a girl who's best friend gets small-town-christmas pilled after a work trip and goes to investigate/save her - maybe some additional sapphic vibes 😂

@@chillpolyamoryI saw a suggestion on Tumblr of two guys meeting at an airport and finding out both their girlfriends/fiancées were hit by the Hallmark Small Town Christmas curse, and it ends with the guys hitting it off and spending New Year together

Predictable that after years of Disney & other kids shows with “stalking” as “wooing”, we would end up here! 😂 Thanks for this!

I always hated "romance" movies and these Christmas themed ones always seemed like a particularly worse flavor of it. I'm just glad I'm not the only one seeing these things/messages in them lol

This is wonderful. I saw a taping of the Hot and Bothered podcast this summer where they did a take down of Notting Hill. Their season 5 is all rom coms critical analysis.

Woo hoo! First comment! My friend Dan is in several Hallmark Christmas movies. I'm amused to see you're covering one of them. Let's see if it's sweet or nightmare... 🤣🤭 Merry Christmas, lovely lady!🎄⛄

These movies really hate career-focused women unless it's for a small business lol. I used to watch hallmark movies because I do think they have a certain charm (although I prefer the summer ones way more). However, one ironic thing I noticed in these "Christian" approved movies is that a lot of them encourage cheating! So many of the films will essentially have the message that "cheating is okay as long as it's in the name of true love". To be fair, this isn't exclusive to Hallmark movies alone, but I do find it funny that they go out of their way to not have divorcees as main characters/love interests, but cheating is fair game.

The life these movies promote is my personal hell, but the Chad Michael Murray movie sounds so bad I want to watch it now.

So, I love the bad Christmas romance movies, but I don’t watch the hallmark ones-besides not having hallmark, every hallmark thing I have every seen is so white and Christian, it is unsettling. Netflix and other streaming services do a lot of them now and they do make an effort to actually (sometimes) include people of color (even in principal roles!), which is something 😂. My favorite might be a Disney+ original called Feliz NaviDAD. It is exactly as bad as you think (bad dialogue, bad acting, Dad is a widow of course, his mom is pushing him with the love interest he’s known for one week) but I was pleased to see Latinos breaking into the Christmas Romance scene (I am Latina and this might be the only one of these movies I’ve seen with Latino main characters). It takes place in the us southwest, which I find refreshing, but then I was actually really impressed with the movie’s resolution (spoiler alert, if you care 😂). So, woman love interest is a fancy orchestra performer in the city who is in town for Christmas to spend it with her lonely father. Expectation: she is going to leave the job she loves to stay in this town. Right? NO! They decide to be long distant!!!!! I was jaw on the floor. Low bar, obviously 😂. Anyways, thank you for this video, it was so fun! I usually watch these movies with wine and complain loudly 😂😂😂.

I love your psycho-analysis of Hallmark Christmas movies! This is total propaganda for gender-binary, white, tradlife programming. This warps so many people's perspective of what is normal CIS het "romance." Danger! Run woman!

I've heard of them, and mostly my dad watches them, but just the production quality being so low alone puts me off, but the christmas propaganda + shit rom com elements push it all off the edge for me. I'll watch a lot of trash, but not this trash.
