Great video! Engaging the lats with the clean makes so much sense when you see it like that. I’m definitely going to implement this in training. Thanks!

fantastic input! I'm also training lat activation on cleans and snatchs and the back muscles really make a difference. now to focus on that muscle relaxations little by little.

In the Barbell clean and jerk you activate the lats in the same way at the top of the pull. It helps drive the bar upwards.

I think these exercises do very little for hypertrophy unlike front squats, rows, strict presses, etc
@DrRonaldSIpock Жыл бұрын
you're completely correct. I have been training in GS for 20 years and these exercises don't build muscles; they build strength and the ability to use your body as a unit. I know that sounds contradictory but here's what I mean. I work in a processing plant where I constantly have to lift 50-100 lb containers from the semi-trailer, lift them again onto the conveyor belt, and lift them again into an autoclave. Occasionally we'll employ college boy gym-bros with puffy muscles. They don't last long and are injury prone. I'm not going to say one way is better than the other; I'm just saying they have different goals, different protocols, and different results.
Not sure if anyone did it, but what he says at the start of the video is: "The most important thing about the long cycle is to sync the breathing during the clean, so you can then quickly execute a jerk without losing your breath in all phases of the movement." Not 100% sure if I got the gist of what he meant to say in his last sentence, even after watching the whole video. I think the best translation for the final line would be "at any point in the movement" but the Spanish sentence would have to be different. Maybe I missed them discuss breathing somewhere where he explained this better?
