Seems like a "balanced" approach isn't as popular. That is what I have done. One-handed, crossbow, destruction caster. Expert Smith, and Enchanter. (But I'm getting ready to switch to heavy and two-handed just to unlock those perks and level up more) Is it better to just be ONE thing or another? It depends on the mood for me. Sometimes I like going full destruction mode, sometimes I like stealth and crossbow. I feel like I've collected enough stuff, have enough money, and maxed out my smithing and enchanting that I can not only be anything, but switch to anything at anytime.

A while ago, I did that with my orc warrior. He was a bandit back at Cyrodil, and build himself quite a reputation, to the point where he had to flee the capital because he was a wanted man by the Empire. Only to get captured as soon as he entered Skyrim, on a misunderstanding no less. He was not particularly evil, nor was he a hero. He just wanted to have a good life, with excitement in the day, a warm bed and meal after. Highway theft were only a mean to an end. Ended up helping the Stormcloaks because it was his chance to side with a faction that didn't already wanted to hanged him. I also did a backstory with a archer wood elf. His family was among the victims of the Dominion takeover, and as such, had a pretty strong hatred of the Thalmor and their watchdogs. He sided with the Empire, because he believed that for the Aldmeri Dominion to be crushed once and for all, Tamriel needed to be united, including Skyrim.

I’m currently playing through as an Argonian that really takes the Dragonborn title to heart. His backstory is pretty simple. He was born and raised in a small village in Black Marsh, and he grew up to be big and strong, standing a good bit taller than his hatchmates. He led a pretty simple life and had very little combat experience, only really using a small axe to fend off the occasional crocodile. However, one night he began to have dreams. Dreams of snow-capped mountains and fire raining down from the sky. Troubled, he went to the village elders, seeking the guidance of the Hist. As he drank the sap, the Hist told him to journey far to the north, and that he would understand why once he arrived.

I mean, you CAN kill someone for a shiny dagger, but plan it out first. You could totally have a character that Falls rather than be Redeemed. Have a personality that could be tempted, or perhaps you find a cursed artifact that corrupts slowly like Umbra. You could be a former Vigilant of Stendarr who disagreed with some of their practices, and join the Dawnguard who are similar but more pragmatic, but then Harkon makes a tempting offer, become not just an ordinary vampire, but one with a lineage that puts you very close to Molag Bal, and then have the Vampirism further corrupt you, doing more and more evil things, like joining the Dark Brotherhood.
@isaachester8475
@isaachester8475 Жыл бұрын
I love this idea. Huge character arcs are fun to enact from a gameplay perspective too, because you can experiment with vastly different playstyles and items in one game :) If you want a slower progression in Dawnguard, Serana is a good turning point to help your character realize that not all vampires are evil. Have her turn you at the Soul Cairn, then gradually get corrupted by your newfound power.

My problem with this is some of the quests don't make sense for a good character or an evil character. They only make sense for a WEAK character. This applies to all the four base game guilds. For the Companions, College qnd Thieves Guild they only make sense if your character is a noob. Even if your character backstory is they are reasonably experienced, they are treated like a noob when they first join. The Dark Brotherhood is the worst though. If your character is not a totally spineless wuss then you would not go along with someone who kidnapped you whether your character was good or evil. You also probably wouldn't be that pathetic if you agreed to murder the old woman in the orphanage in the first place. Therefore, evil characters also justifiably wipe out the Dark Brotherhood for pragmatic and personal reasons.
@gaminreasons8941
@gaminreasons8941 Жыл бұрын
@@antiochus87 If your character starts at level 1, they shouldn't be very experienced in their backstory. I don't care what headcanon you have, your level one character shouldn't be a world class assassin, and any backstories like that need to be swept away because they don't make sense. And as far as the Guilds go, yeah, that's why you join them early in the playthrough, so that the story makes sense. Also, you don't have to be weak to join the Dark Brotherhood, you just need a twisted sense of morals. After all, Astrid didn't hurt you, she merely wants compensation for the theft you committed and has even graciously brought you the targets, all you have to do is repay her. A twisted character might even respect Astrid at first seeing this as a charitable action on her part. Or perhaps you are an opportunist, you want to get in the Brotherhood's good books knowing that being friends with dangerous assassins has it's uses.

One my favorite builds was a Nord named William "Braveheart". Direct inspiration from the films character and mainly focused on the civil war quest line. I discovered that if you are wearing the stormcloak armour set when you visit solitude, after the beheading the general when I talked to him, or( he approached? I don't remember) asked somthing like why wear that armour here? I wanting to stick to character chose an option that stated somthing along the lines of I'll do as I want. This prompted the all the solitude guards and soldiers to attack. I in character fought back as best I could surprisingly taking out about 5 before realizing it was a losing battle. I ran out of the city and down the stretch of road until I was no longer followed. Fir this until the war was settled held a bounty in solitude and never stepped foot in it again unless necessary. Was a very memorable moment.

A long time ago, back when I was still apprentice level in modding. I roleplayed as a Dwemer that happened to be exploring within’ one of the realms of Oblivion. One day he returned home and saw that his people were nowhere to be found. So he decided to try and make a device that could allow him to connect with his people again. However, when the device activated, it blew up the shack he was in, in which the debris would kill a nearby noble that happened to be riding in a carriage at the time. Since the guards were there, they would take him in and charge him for murder. However, he had no recollection of this, for the device destroyed most of his tech and his memories, with the only things he can remember being his name and how to smith Dwarven armor and weapons (the base game ones). So his journey was to rediscover his origin and memories, as well as figuring out for the people, as to why Dwemer Specters suddenly appeared everywhere in Skyrim’s Dwemer Ruins. Spoiler Alert, it was the device he created, it did technically bring them back, but not in the way he intended. As he regained his memories, he started to see more and more just how much of a scumbag he was, from doing experiments on woodland critters, to helping with the downfall of the Falmer. Seeing this would change his perspective on things and truly separate him from the average Dwemer. Also nobody believed he was a Dwemer, and just assumed he was a weird Dunmer, lol. There was A LOT more to his story since I did so much with this character, but we’ll be here all day if I explained all of that. He was a spellsword-type character.

True, you could treat it as you just helping out a fellow paladin to investigate a strange house so you wouldn’t have known it was a daedric prince, but molag bal doesn’t give either of you a choice except fight to escape. you can wait for the Vigilant to attack first so it’s self defence, then when Molag sends you to bring the boethia priest to his shrine you just kill the priest when you find him. it fails the quest but you basically ruin Molags plans and satisfaction of him killing a priest with his mace at his shrine and you kill a daedric worshipper on top of that so it’s kinda a win for a good priest character.

To think, that's what I did for my first character. She was a Khajiit assassin (daggers, not bows) who hated the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion bc they burned down her hometown and killed her family. She came to Skyrim by pure accident, having just wandered the wilds of Tamriel for 2 years before arriving. She didn't use magic bc that's the high elves' forte, and she considers anything that comes from them to be evil, and she joined the Stormcloak because she believed they were a necessary evil to destroy the Empire. She also joined up with the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild bc they understood her, and she could properly use her skills under their guidance. However, she planned to eventually turn against the Dark Brotherhood because of what they were. She only delayed her betrayal because they promised her the opportunity to kill the Emperor (I never got that far because my Xbox died). As for the thieves guild, she stayed with them because while she didn't believe in what they stood for, she saw how she could use them to her advantage. Finally, one of the last things she did before my run ended was purchase land in Falkreath because it was close to Riverwood, and she had developed a close relationship with the majority of it's citizens. So I just roleplayed it as the land was just an area between Falkreath and Riverwood that she started building a house on. That was probably the most fun I ever had in any Skyrim playthrough, and now because of this video bringing back the memories, I'm planning on trying again.

Current character is a female argonian who generally despises dark elves as she was once a slave to them yet she has a fondness for nords. During her childhood she was captured by a dunmer raiding party, even after taking half of Morrowind the Argonians still fall victim to the cruelty of the dunmer. She was brought in from the fields and made into a house slave, being regularly abused by the family that owned her. The mother of the family would berate and beat her, the father would beat and sexually abuse her, the daughters would torment her endlessly by practising their spells on her and the sons slit her brother's throats when they stepped in to protect her. It wasn't till a band of Nords came across the farm and attacked it that she was freed, they may have been bandits but they were her saviours, and what's more they were kind. They let her take what she could carry and leave that hated place and she watched it burn down from the road as she left for Cyrodil. During her time as a house slave she worked mostly in the kitchen, where she developed an appreciation for cooking, which translated well into alchemy. She became an alchemist apprentice in the city of Chorrol, work was plentiful after the war with many wounded former soldiers and civilians needing regular treatments, to supplement her skills she asked the Mages guild for help, a kindly Breton mage taught her some basic healing spells and gave her a book of healing spells. Hearing work of the bloody civil war in skyrim, she sold all she could and brought passage to Bruma, from there she first visited the old cloud ruler temple and procured supplies to cross the mountains. Some days after crossing the border however, she made camp in some thick woods, her exhaustion made her sleep deeply, so deep she didn't hear the clanging or screams of a nearby battle, but what did wake her up was the feeling of cold steel against her throat, where she awoke surrounded by Imperial soldiers. Wrong place, wrong time, off to Helgen. Roleplaying: never help a dunmer, unless you're leading them on to screw them over later. Corrupt Azura's star, if you must betray a companion, get a dunmer companion and betray them. Help everyone else, especially Nords as it were nord men who saved her all those years ago. Skill focus: stealth, restoration, Alchemy and fighting style is "sword dancer" with two blades, expand to illusion if you get into the college. Side in civil war: Imperial. While you love the nords, you see the ultra nationalism in the storm cloaks and don't want to see them start enslaving other peoples as the dunmer do.

The Stormcloaks are fighting for sovereignty. It’s the Imperials and their Aldmeri counterparts who regularly hold people captive, and often it’s for no legitimate reason. The way I got around my good guy character working for Daedra is that they were so anxious about not being able to defeat Alduin, so they went across Skyrim picking up anything they could to make themself more powerful. Even going beyond working for Daedra, they wanted to be as strong as possible, so they became the leader of all the guilds, gained influence in every hold, and so on so forth.

If I'm playing as a "good character" I justify my evil deeds for the daedra and stuff by pretty much saying "these artifacts are dangerous and should not belong to anyone, so I shall collect and guard them with my life." But that's mostly because I LOVE collecting stuff.

I’m doing a spin on the more traditional nord Dragonborn where my character was thrust into the role of Dragonborn and is an average person who attempted to do good to uphold his destiny but after witnessing the horror of the skull of corruption and knowing he alone was not enough to take down a dragon with his nonexistent combat skills and basic knowledge of conjuration began to seek out power in any way possible eventually hearing rumors of the ancient vampires and a sword of blood deep below raven rock. It’s honestly the most fun I’ve had in a while playing, it also helps i have about 1000+ mods downloaded from the constellations modpack collection on nexus which makes the game so much harder.

I typically build my character the same way, a travelling warrior scholar who collects curiosities, magical artifacts, and dangerous knowledge. Not necessarily for a desire for power, but to hopefully keep that power out of the wrong hands. Although typically moral and trying to make the world a better place, she is willing to sacrifice innocents for the greater good of squirreling away powerful artifacts and magical items too dangerous to be left floating about. Fully willing to do evil things as a means to an end, she's always mindful to never do more harm than necessary, and to help anyone she can to help balance her karma a little.

My Orc warrior, Agrobash, grew up in a family of warriors. His mother and father were both imperial soldiers. One night, on their anniversary, they decided to celebrate in a local tavern from the imperial camp in Bruma. However, a group of drunk, racist Nords decided to make their presence known by calling out the Orcs and challenging them to a fist fight. After losing due to them being drunk, the Nords waited until their opportune moment outside and followed the Orcs and struck right outside of town. The guards eventually found their bodies and informed Agrobash. Of course, he wanted to see for himself what the Nords did. When he got there, he found the word beast carved into their backs with a dagger. He wasn't the only though as a group of Imperial soldiers from his parents' camp came to honor them. When they got there, all they saw was their fallen comrades and the son standing by their dead bodies with a dagger in his hand and so they arrested him on the spot because they were told only that the Orcs were dead and somebody with a dagger did it. He was carted off to Helgen. He decided that if the world is going to Orcs as nothing more than beasts, then that's what he'll be. Agrobash won't do anything unless it's for money, for example, bounty hunting. Skills: Heavy Armor, Two-Handed, Enchanting, Smithing, and Speech Speech is for the intimidation perk.

My Blood Countess character was a person who suffered from the hands of a vampire that bought her from her parents and he uhh was like Molag Bal before offering her to Molag Bal to uhh....watch her and others become daughters of Coldharbour. Full of Rage, she killed everyone including the vampire and wandered into Skyrim, feeling nothing but anger. Basically she was similar to Carmilla from Castlevania but I didn't want a completely evil character and thanks to the Serana voice mod, She felt someone like her and she would adopt children and become more "kind". She does enjoy taking power from arrogant people which is why she joins the Empire while leading an army. One thing is is that she wont block out the sun because Serana scolded her once and she was afraid of losing the person who made her feel human. Its thanks to this she became a character I want to write in a vampire series of short stories except in that, she doesn't get revenge on the vampire who turned her nor his terrible family.

My latest character was a dremora in service to Azura. He killed Alduin simply because that was what he deduced to be her will. Why else would she merge his vestige with a dragon soul. After that he kinda just started helping people because he began to sympathize with the mortals. He was still loyal to his goddess but by the end he was helping people because he wanted to not just because he was told to. Eventually, he grew tired of petty mortal jarls and emperors. The people deserved a competent a ruler, an immortal king to guide them to prosperity. (Using the conquest of Skyrim mod) He created an Azura worshipping cult and lead a holy war to unite the land under his rule. His ark started him as a soldier and ended with him as a king.

My most recent character is really simple. He’s a Nord who really likes big swords. So he goes around the world collecting as many big swords as he can find. Every time he goes home he stares at his collection of swords for at least an hour before setting off for his next sword. He’s learning smithing to create his own big swords. He will fight, kill, and plunder for big swords. His entire life is focused on big swords.

Also if you have a backstory that makes you good but you plan of joining the dark brotherhood, maybe make your character become more jaded of your playthrough. Also works if you're a warrior but after you beat all the main stories maybe your character becomes more wise in their old age and you decide to start learning magic so you join the college in winterhold. Love Skyrim roleplaying

My way to get everything yet still be in character with my ‘newborn’ vampire (‘newborn’ as in, she hasn’t been a vamp for long) is basically she isn’t doing it for the items, but rather the adventure, she has consequence blindness and doesn’t see that her actions have consequences, so she doesn’t see the bad stuff only the fun stuff.

One of the ones I did a while back is a wood elf who did not fit in at home as his father was a nord and after his mothers death he left for Skyrim to learn more about his fathers people and potentially find him as he was forced to flee or he had died while finding work in Skyrim to support his family that part was flexible as sometimes I would take a break and forget he was very proficient at dual wielding swords and a skilled archer (can never bring myself to abandon the bow it’s too good of a weapon to thin out or get damage in early sue me) and I let his story take off from there. Another is my most stereotypical Dragonborn which is honestly one of my favorites he is a heavy armored two handed nord who hailed from cyrodil but with nord parentage a black smithing family after they fell off as nobility He sets off on his own to adventure in Skyrim and maybe set up shop as a blacksmith himself some day (I’m a little bit short on details back home sorry I’ll have to give myself a refresher) he has had many character arcs he is best friends with inigo ofc and he fought on the side of the imperials did the second Great War as well which almost broke him he is now less so a follower of talos and has become more okay with the morally questionable things in the world I can go on forever also Legacy of the Dragonborn is perfect for an extended story for the main quest line as it REALLY helps expand on your role as Dragonborn

A khajiit warrior who studies the art of bound equipment, forming a small friendship with Falion and learning much from him. He will use only conjured weapons and gear whenever possible. he was raised to live off the land. So he only uses armor made from hides and leathers. He uses alchemy to sustain himself, and tends to wander, only really procuring a home to rest on occasion. He did so building a cabin south of Helgen, but just as soon as he stashed away a spare key to the door he was grabbed by the Imperial Ambush and stripped of everything.

I recently discovered this and decided to create a Redguard. They have IMO the best potential for a backstory that is HIGHLY linked to the events in Skyrim (except locals obv). (Since their home, Hammerfell was basically a part of the Empire that had to become independant due to disagreement with the Thalmor's Peace Treaty. And they now have to defend themselves alone against the Thalmor without the empire) His story is basically like this: Reguards are the best warriors in all Tamriel and he was no exception. Part of the Hammerfell Legions of the Empire and defending against the invasion attempts from the Dominion, he saw years of carnage and destruction. Years after years...his eyes became sader and sader. But his brother in arms were his reason to live, while fighting off the Aldmeri Dominion. Dunmers, orcs, imperial, khajit and argonians...his legion had everyone, bound by a similar fight and calling Hammerfell their home reguardless of their race. After barely winning against the Thalmor with the remaining of the Empire's legion forgotten in Hammerfell, most of his brothers were dead or captured. Lost in sadness, grief and anger...his only remaining task was to chase the Dominion wherever they marched. He headed for the Imperial camp of Solitude by boat but got shipwrecked on the way. After escaping the cold waters of the north he ran to Dawnstar and borrowed a horse to Solitude. His destination: the Legion. He knew that the Empire was weak, he knew that it wasn't a perfect solution but it was the best side he could choose to fend off the Thalmor, avenge his brothers and reduce the threat of invasion of his homeland in Hammerfell. He had already heard about a dormant Thalmor agent called "Ulfric" and instantly understood that the Thalmor's plots were already at place to destabilize the region. This new land is cold, unwelcoming and mysterious, but no man or creature will stand in his path. Tamriel will be united...like his brothers in the legion...all different, but all amazing for that very reason. (I used "Another Life" mod to avoid the initial capture by the imperials and choose to arrive by ship in Skyrim) Hope you guys will find that interesting ✨️
