SubhanAllah, I witnessed this in some masjids during the taraweeh this past Ramadan. People going to rooku before imam and giving taslim before imaam. Sad that those also mostly seniors who did this.

Brother, this is a fiqh lesson by the looks of things. Fiqh books usually don't usually give evidences since that is left to the hadeeth books like Umdatul Ahkam and Buloogh al-Maraam

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he says the takbir, say the takbir, and when he recites, be silent, and when he says: "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him)," say: "Allahumma rabbana lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be praise)." Sunan an-Nasa'i 921 Chapter 30: The interpretation of the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime: So, when the Quran is, Book 11: The Book of the Commencement of the Prayer Grade: Sahih (Darussalam) Similar hadith is found in bukhari and Muslim.

Why would we say "before" the imam? Rather, we should utter them after the Imam says it.

Wa feekum The proof is: عن أبي هُرَيرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عنه، قال: قال رسولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إنَّما جُعِلَ الإمامُ ليؤتمَّ به، فإذا كبَّر فكبِّروا Abu Hurayrah (رَضِيَ اللهُ عنه) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Imām is appointed so that he should be followed; so when he makes Takbīr all of you should say it after him" [Al-Bukhari(734), Muslim (414)] The letter ف [fa] is used as a conjunction but the scholars of language mention it carries the meaning of following straight after thereby differing from و and ثم Imam as-Shawkaani (رحمه الله) mentioned that the meaning of his [Prophet (ﷺ)] saying: "The Imām is appointed so that he should be followed". means that being an Imam necessitates that the one praying behind him follows his Imam so it is not permissible for him to do things with him, before him or differ from him. [Nail al-Awtaar (2/250)] With the takbeerat al-Ihram, [the opening takbeer] the one following enters into the prayer with the Imam, so if he precedes him in it or says it along with him, he in effect does not enter the prayer with him and thus his prayer is invalid. و الله أعلم

Where’s the evidence that saying the takbeer with the imam at the beginning nullifies the prayer? If it is said before, what he said makes sense. But if you say it with him, why would one’s Salah be invalid?

This is for the opening takbir (Takbeeratul Ihram) which is a rukn (pillar) of the prayer. The remaining takbeers have s separate rulings since they are wajib in the prayer.

Allah knows best akhi. But just know the Imam is appointed to be FOLLOWED. Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying: The Imam is appointed to be followed. So recite takbir when he recites it, and bow down when he bows down and when he utters:" Allah listens to him who praises Him," say" O Allah, our Lord, for Thee be the praise." And when he prays, standing, you should pray standing. And when he prays sitting, all of you should pray sitting. Sahih Muslim 417.
