Me and the dozen or so people still actively using the RX100 really really need that RX100 to be upgraded - someone from Sony needs to watch this!

Starting by saying that only a dozen or so still use it would be the wrong way to make them release another one... better hype it up by pointing out how popular (and unavailable) the fuji is at the moment

A lot of people still use it. It is still sold as new. Maybe that's the problem.

No, you need to upgrade to APS-C or FF. I carried the RX100m7 camera from Mexico to Canada, and was so disappointed by its terrible weathersealing and propensity for dust to get on the sensor. I bought a RXR1m2 “used” and it came with a huge dust mark on the sensor. It’s very difficult to disassemble either of those cameras in order to remove dust from the sensor. With the A1 & my Primes, I don’t have that problem anymore
@rem7924 ай бұрын
@@hikertrashfilms It comes with the territory. All compacts have this problem, unfortunately. I just think they should be cheaper.

I still use my Rx100iii that I bought when it first came out. The problem is that while newer models gave a larger zoom range, it also resulted in a much slower lens. Given the small sensor, it already needs a lot of light. All the updates since the mark 3 have been nice, like better AF, better video & viewfinder resolution, external mic support, but given the lens is slower and I can always move closer to the subject, I’ve not seen a point to upgrade. I may not be alone in this thinking, so Sony is hesitant to release a new camera nobody will upgrade to.

It would definitely be nice to see new versions of both the RX100 and RX10 with the latest tech as these were some of the first stacked sensor cameras out in the wild. I still tell people to use the RX10 as a good nature photography camera for those who don't want to carry around a huge and heavy set of gear but still want to be able to get some action shots. I personally use the ZV1, which is an almost RX100, regularly on top of my camera to capture video as I'm shooting with a long lens and would grab a newer version with a 24-200 like the current RX100 if it could do 4k60 or 4k120. The main camera I would like to see Sony come out with is a stacked sensor high resolution camera that costs around the same as the Nikon Z8 or Canon R5 II, or just drop the A1 price to that level and come out with an A1 II.

I think a new RX1 would be interesting - until you see a used one in a shop window (which is really the only time I see one, I've never seen anyone using one) you don't realise how teeny it is... a lot smaller than the X100VI... Perhaps something in 43-ish mm to compete with the new Q3 would be nice to have... I don't know about a new RX100, I had the mk1 and upgraded to the V, but my current phone does 13, 26 and 64mm equivalent and is a lot less hassle to use vs. the Sony menus (I still do take the RX100V along sometimes though). Also a GoPro is usually better for video if the focal length suits (though at 5k you can always crop 4k or 1080p from it), I used to put the RX100V on a small Crane-M gimbal to shoot video, with the GoPro it's as good handheld... plus you can just shove it in a Lake to shoot any fish that are there... So it's the RX1 I think I'd like to see updated, but judging by how rare they seem to be, vs. say the Leica Q cameras, perhaps they didn't sell enough to justify another version? A bit like the Oly Pen-F...
@costagf4 ай бұрын
True about RX1 size, it being considerably smaller but I think that type of design has a footprint/balance misscalculation for how apparently tiny it is ,it makes everything smaller where one could maybe want it a bit bigger por better grip/ergonomics and has a considerable larges/protruding non collapsible lens that goes against pocketability. Fuji X100 is NOT SMALL but the footprint is deceivingly compact because the lens doesn't extend so much but with a catch because they requiere the NEW user to buy a add on adapter and filter or other solution to make the camera sealed (since X100V) which then makes the camera less appealing because it doesn't fit so well on a pants pocket because of the adaptar/filter combo that extends the lens.

Well, as you were talking about the Sony RX100 which, by the way, can't be related to great battery life, I was thinking of the RX10, as bridge cameras are still a great thing to me. On the other hand, it seems to me that all the camera manufacturers are going down at the moment, most of the cameras I can see in the market right now are at least one or two years old. The smartphones are simply taking over.

It’s unfortunate that the closest we have to the rx100r all these years later is the a7c line. I love my a7c combined with a small prime but I feel with all these advancements that they can put a lot of that tech into the smaller body that the rx100r is capable of

I really agree with updates for the RX100 and the RX1R. I have the Mk4 version of the RX100 and it's still an amazing everyday carry. The 24-70 optical zoom range is pretty decent though going to 100mm would be nice for portraits. I've been a film Leica shooter for decades but just can't stomach what they charge for digital cameras. The new Q3 has me very interested so I've been seriously considering a used RX1R. If Sony brought out an updated version similar to what you were discussing, I'd be all over it.

Even though my main camera is a Z8, when I'm on holiday I love the versatility of the RX100. Sure, it's not on par with a full frame camera but my phone can't get to 200mm with a reasonable result. I haven't found an equivalent on the market either - it seems to be either a trade-off in size & weight or zoom & features. Even an RX100 VII.2 (mark 7, mark 2? 7c?) would be good to see, where they just swap the port from micro USB to USB-C.

Highly agree with everything said. And I especially would love to see the rx100 and rx0 lines updated. They both desperately need 10 bit 4.2.2 with 4k60 uncropped. The rx0 needs better stabe (which is easy nowadays) a slightly bigger screen wouldn't hurt. Maybe a couple extra mounting points? Obviously better battery life, and like you said better sensor or lens? Not sure. Probably both. The potential of that little guy tho, might be the most exciting prospect and could seriously corner a part of the market that doesn't really truly exist i.e. crash cam size/style with cinema quality abilities (same goes for the rx100 line, but moreso for the rx0 line, due to its ruggedness and waterproofing, and most importantly, it's insane portability)

I am going to put out a controversial statement and say you are missing one.... I still have, and use the Sony A5100 - and its such a great wee camera even today (AF just needs to be better). This one should be updated because it is actually pocketable and great for waist level shooting... basically it is the closest thing that Sony has to compete with the likes of a Ricoh GR3. I usually pair it with either the kit lens or the 20mm F2.8. Also is a great vlogging style camera.

Having owned a number of RX100s since it's inception, the standouts have been MK4 to MK5a; improved AF & faster glass is most welcomed in lower light situations. The greatest weakness I found in the RX line up, anything above ISO 250; images would start to looks like swiss cheese due to its sensor, DR and low light performance is not great. If Sony decided to opt to a APSC sensor which are present in other compacts by other brands with faster glass, I would upgrade. Adding slower glass with longer reach with the same sensor like they have done with the MK6 onwards was a backward step.
@vidthreenorth40074 ай бұрын
As far as the sensor goes for the A7s3, I haven't been keeping track of what Sony is producing, but I have doubts if they can make much progress in a standard size sensor chip. They might actually be up against the laws of physics. That is a sad thought. . . .

RX100 stinks…I used it for a couple years before getting the A1. It eats dust all the time and is not weathersealed. Especially when used backpacking outdoors, it gets dust on the 1” sensor and on the inner elements of the glass. I don’t have this issue with my 20G, 50GM 1.2 & A1 for backpacking. I refuse to get another zoom lens that extends externally

Only Sony knows what is selling truly well enough to make it worthwhile to update but some in the industry think they are dragging their feet on RX and 7S cameras because for all the talk about needing upgrades the truth is against their direct competition there's still nothing that tops them. Comes close, yeah, but not beats and they can continue to sell a design that has paid for itself many times over without having to invest in new R&D. Others say Sony doesn't want to steal sales from their own 6000 series and A7 series cameras because they want the lens sales. Sony has the EV-1 and the FX-3 so no real reason to update the A7SIII as those other cameras are the update. What I would like personally is a new RX-10 V. Improved auto focus would be easy enough, Sony and everyone else is missing the boat on solid state lithium batteries for extended life in the same foot print. I'd love to see the lens go a little wider maybe to 18 MM and keep the 600 MM with better stabilization while maybe getting the aperture down a bit across the range. Beyond that include some improve frame rate options and useful AI features like de-noise so the one inch sensor can still provide the zoom lens range in the all in one body but with improved low light performance or when you're zoomed in and the F-stop has to be higher. I don't do any video shooting so others would have to request those features but given the advancements since the version 4 was released everything I just mentioned is doable and not pie in the sky. Sony has never had trouble selling all they could make of the thing and it was often on back order. If they upgraded it like this I'd pay another couple of hundred bucks for it and be done with all the camera I would ever really use, lens included. But perhaps Sony thinks so would too many other people and it would hurt their interchangeable lens cameras. The RX100 VII is still top of it's class for a pocket camera and while there is room to grow slightly while still being light and small enough to be super convenient to carry they can't go over board or else it no longer has one of the characteristics people love about it. Again, battery life could be improved tomorrow with a solid state lithium battery which are very reliable in camera battery sizes. The inclusion of AI for de-noise and a better aperture or at least the functional equivalent of better aperture. A better view finder on both RX cameras would be nice. For me, again, going 18 MM to 200 on the RX 100 would be welcome but I know more people want zoom so maybe 18 to 240 in a slightly larger body. Sure, in the smaller body as a hybrid camera it's going to be a 30 minute video camera before heating up but physics doesn't care about wishes. It's another camera that Sony never has to discount to sell out of over and over so the upgraded version would only continue the trend. But it might cut into their mirrorless sales. Cutting into them is a valid concern but pretending they will expand mirrorless sales by not offering an alternative is a risky gamble. As I said above the A7SIII has been updated it just isn't called the A7SIII. What most people who have no clue about how cameras gather light don't understand is that the 12 MP is what allows the A7SIII and it's stablemates to be so good in low light. All these guys wishing for a 24 MP version don't get that by doubling the MP they will get the same low light performance as every other good 24 MP camera. I suppose if they wanted to split the difference and offer an A7SIV with an 18 MP sensor to best 24 MP full frame low light and dynamic range while offering more image quality for stills that no one who buys this camera is buying it for that might satiate the talking heads but would it really do anything to boost Sony's sales? Probably not unless they sold it for less than 3 grand and with every top tier video feature known in the industry right now. The low light performance is what makes the A7SIII the legend it is. The 12 MP number on the sensor is what allows most of that performance to happen. Increase that number and you automatically make a less low light capable camera.
