On my way to work two days ago, the moon was in perfect position behind the local church - didn't have my camera. Brought it the next day for this one shot but the lighting wasn't as interesting. Lesson learned, always have my camera with me!

Not a subscriber, but the algo served this up to me and I enjoyed it. I get paid for my photography, but I enjoy setting challenges for myself and just taking pictures for pleasure. I still cling to analog for most of that, and I've taken to keeping a Holga in my trunk and a 1990s point-and-shoot loaded with Kodak Gold on me wherever I go. The important thing isn't the tool; for me, it's just a way to maintain engagement with one's environment.

Great reminder to be just a bit more intentional when photographing. Especially when you are not by yourself. I'm certainly guilty of not putting in effort when I'm with someone and then feeling disappointed with the results 😂

I'm 80! Everyday is another adventure! I feel sorry for you and others.. Carry a small camera! No strap on camera is next step, dropping it! One never needs to travel. Everyday make a few images. If you cannot go fishing! Stop thinking! See,frame, push button.

I'm 44 and have travelled over 30 countries the past 24 years, on average more than 6 months a year. I love new cultures, great new food, beautiful people, different landscapes, interesting conversations, different weather, wildlife, beautiful forests, great hikes, amazing waves, completely different architecture and history etc. Always with my camera by my side. I don't regret a second of my travels, I do regret not starting earlier and travelling more. At home everything is the same if I'm gone a week or 5 years. Same houses, same people at the same jobs, same complaints about the government and prices and same traffic problems.

i’m like this too, always chasing “the photo” even though after a trip , the best ones are usually some random shot along the way

Great advice.. small camera, something like an LC-A, XA2 or similar, keep it in your pocket, its always there when you see something nice or interesting.

Great video mate, alot of what you mentioned makes so much sense and sometimes the answer can be right in front of us, but isn't always obvious. For me I like getting inspired by composition. I find lots of inpiration from films in particular! I use shotdeck and I just browse until something really catches my eye, then I try to incorporate those shots into my own photography (even if my reference/inspo comes from stills of movies!).

Great stuff Max. Couldn’t agree more on some of the points you make about how to get out of a rut and see things differently.

Nice review. Great topic. Great ideas! Nice shots. Thorsten von Overgaard on You Tube and avid Leica shooter has a saying he uses all the time. "Always wear a camera". I have also adopted this and many of your ideas already in my life of photography.

You can 'home in' but you can't 'hone in'. 'To hone' is to sharpen. You can hone an axe or a chisel or a Knife but you can't 'home' them. It's a common malapropism. You can hone i.e 'sharpen' , your photography skills. However, aside from your repeated use of 'hone', an interesting take on your photography mindset. Thank you. You have quite a collection of interesting images. One thing I would add is when revisiting a familiar place consider the light and ask yourself 'How would this look in different lighting conditions?'

Uhm actually it is "sherpa" your skills as it is like climbing a mountain and you become better at it.
