I’m glad you went back to long videos. Seems like a task going back to the individual mini videos and finding the order to watch them in.

Excellent work here. Key takeaway- "The tank thrived off consistency".

Lessons from experience: After a very successful start with my reef tank, after some time my corals began to decline; gradually, but persistently, for months -even years. Corals that once thrived in my tank now shriveled and quickly died. Clams died. Some corals would have their polyps always closed. Xenias that once thrived and multiplied would now shrink and die within 1-2 days of being introduced. This is not what one would expect from any kind of element or nutrient deficiency. This looked like an acute toxin effect. Something toxic was clearly in the water. I noticed that the more supplements and additives I used the worse the corals looked. ICP tests showed no problems with elements. Things would improve noticeably after water changes, but also if I just stopped dosing supplements. The use of activated carbon had a noticeable but small positive effect. My tank began to thrive again only after I did many, MANY, water changes, and significantly reduced the use of supplements. Clearly, I had been poisoning my tank with chronic, gradual supplement overdoses, over many months. Thanks BRS for your great advice. JLL

Thanks for sharing. The reason that ICP might now show this is because the corals bioaccumulated the toxins in their tissue.

You definitely need to add "Dr" or "PHD" to your name Ryan! So much research you do. Thanks for all you do for the reefing community!

In a future video, could you cover the rationale for using Ozone vs hydrogen peroxide? Ozone has air quality issues, burns tubing, and could burn your tank. Dosing low strength h2o2 avoids all of these issues and if dosed with lights on will give you a strong UVOx reaction. Should be able to achieve same goals at lower risk.

At 3:50 in you show the Ozone generator and the guy turns it up to 5 !!! Yikes. Let's hope that small sump in for a very big tank.

The solution to pollution is dilution. It doesn’t work for dumping sewage in rivers, but it seems to be key in aquariums.

There are ways around dilution but “is it worth it” :)

Clarification: do you really mean people should be cleaning equipment every two years/every other year? Because that’s what “bi-annually” means. If you mean every 6 months or twice a year-which is what I *think* you do mean since it’s advice that has appeared in other BRS videos-“semi-annually” is what you’re looking for. Genuinely not trying to be pedantic, I just want to be sure I really understand what you’re trying to recommend, rather than making assumptions.

Yes. We are exploring releasing them in full length along with shorter chapters for those who don’t have 45 minutes :)
