Pete, after I retired from the Marine Corps, I had a house built in a rural part of Ohio. We had 3 acer's my neighbor was a farmer who had been there seemed like forever. He was just like you.....even keeled, never rattled, and ALWAYS a source for positive information. He died, after our second year living there. I was crushed. It was like loosing a father. I enjoy your video's and you remind me so much of my dear lost friend and neighbor. Good luck and continued success!!!

By the way, thanks for reminding me to check out my generator, it's been a while since it's last check up! Absolutely love your videos! You don’t just show yourself working and you take time to explain the “whys and hows” of farming and marketing with great added humor. You’re my FAVORITE utube contributor. I love the way you care for the animals in a quiet peaceful compassionate way instead of all the hoopla most farmers do to get them fed, moved etc. You fully explain the reasoning of what and how you do your business and the realities of the farm with those little splotches of sly humor. Loved how you rebuilt the old homestead. Im in the process of liquidating my small sport horse breeding farm and i know how much work goes into any endeavor with animals and with so much variety on your farm I’m in awe of how you keep up with it but it shows how a “labor of love” can make a life fulfilling. Its time to fully retire for me and relax but its a difficult process as I’m sure it was to decide to leave your architecture career and venture into a totally different lifestyle. Keep those wonderful videos coming and educating people in the realities of a sustainable farm. YOU DONE GOOD! Keep them coming You’re the best!!

Pete, I keep a spray can of starting fluid (ether) handy for those reluctant engines that don't seem to want to start putt-putting. If it still won't start, I know there's a bigger problem. Also, when I got my 'big' generator (6250 watts) after Zeta last year, I got a little tool bag to hold the accessories for it, wrenches, extension cords, manual, extra fuel line, etc. Keeps all that stuff together so I don't have to go hunting for it when I need it, and I figured power is important enough to dedicate a few tools strictly to that use. Didn't help much this year; after half an hour of looking for the extension cords I could swear came with the thing, my wife and/or son had to remind me that they were in the bag. Yep, they were.

Either use with a small engine is a bad idea, if you’ve gotten away with it you have been lucky. I’ve seen broken Head bolts, blown head gaskets, bent rods, broken rods through the side of the blown. If you insist on using it pull the spark plug and spray a little on that and reinstall. Good luck

Your comment about 'Homemade Blacktop' reminded me of when I grew up in the 60's. My family had a fruit farm in Germantown, NY. Back then the farmers would save all the oil from the tractors and other machines and use it to spread on the dirt roads in the orchards. This was done to keep the dust down. We also had some old dirt roads that the town maintained. Back then the town would also use a tanker truck and spread old oil on the dirt roads for 'dust control'.

Also every September month of from Thursday to Sunday my late Uncle Bill JR used 1950 Cockshutt COOP 40 53 hp Buta Motor 6 cylinder to run on Ferryswheel ride for people ride from 1960 to 1993 years also get paid for tractor use also fuel cost plus him watching kids enjoy ride to and that Tractor did excellent on belt drive pulley had ! I had ride when growing up and my Uncle Bill JR did great job watching families on Ferryswheel ride also in school everyone used say nice gentlemen your Uncle Bill was Andrew! Plus tell him to and he said that my way get approved and apperceive too! Reason why stop him going with Tractor to Fall Season Fairs on Thursday to Sunday was pollution in air compliant of Government but did use tractor in Show & Shines got prizes too ! My did well and hope find same tractor sometime with same model plus year plus motor plus 6 voltage Positive ground also have remember on farm plus my grandfather Bill Sr bought plus I learned on too growing up on Farm ! Funny part if ever heard Cockshutt sound Pete thinking drive a Farmall tractors or International you have no kidding about it ! Also my Uncle Bill JR love working on electronics on Farm we nickname him Sparky Bill Built and see crazy things did and live from it too!

When I worked for a general equipment rental yard we would drain the gas out of all of our small engines for the winter to avoid starting failures in the spring due to bad gas. We would also use high octane fuel to help the starting process. Most of the small engines were Hondas with overhead valves. Briggs & Stratton engines were avoided like the plague as they were the toughest to start. The Honda engines pretty much always started on the first pull.
