So, here's what happened to KZbin: It used to be, more views = more money. So animators could spend a month making a 5 minute flash cartoon and make enough ad revenue to do it again, because good animations were rare and special, so they got millions of views each. But then they changed it to watch-minutes = more money. So the more 30 minute videos you can crank our per week, the more money you made. Soon all you could make a living doing was crappy lifestyle blogs and reacting to older, longer, high-quality videos. They tweaked the algorithm for a while, until people figured out the magic video length was 10 minutes and 1 second, so for a while, that was all anybody made, regardless of content or audience. Then they just started straight-up putting their thumb on the scale for corporate youtubers while youtube was desperately trying to Become Television. Then, during covid, all the big television celebrities tried to become youtubers, because filming in a huge studio was no longer allowed. But viewers didn't like that because they came across as all rich and out-of-touch compared to normal youtubers. That may or may not have convinced KZbin that being KZbin is a better business strategy than Becoming Television, I don't know, we'll see. V-tubers somehow threaded the needle of being as easy to film as a vlog but as watchable as a cartoon. Aaaaaand now you're all caught up. Coming soon: all hollywood movies will look gross and weird because they're apparently going to be made from ChatGPT or w/e.
