@Cactuspractice12 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. None of the reviewers seem to mention how low res these are, focusing instead on the size of the image produced. The Rokid Max are 1280×720 px per eye. Even the now pretty old Quest 2 is higher res per eye (1,832 x 1920px per eye)...so basically things arent going to be that sharp. Forget 4k level TV image, whcih is why ill stick to my TV and wait for this product to evolve a bit. Like this better than VR though due to the ergonomics.
@mike.barnes Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Hope you’re doing well. Great question. So for me the screen looks very sharp in the centre and reading text is clear. It feels like sitting in front of a 1080p monitor, so obviously not as sharp as 4k if you’re used to that, but totally useable for work in my opinion. And I find them much clearer than a quest 2. However, because the screen is fixed (when used outside of the app) and the corners are abit blurry for me, it can make your eyes strain while trying to look into the corners. So I feel like it’s best used in conjunction with a laptop screen, using the rokid as the second (less dominant) display. So for me I used the Rokid display to pull up my files and folders while editing, but had the timeline on my laptop, doing the bulk of the work. Hopefully that helps? Please feel free to ask any more questions mate, would love to help if I can 🙏🏼

I ordered mine today. I read a lot of ebooks on my phone or e-reader, and it could be tiring to be hunched over my phone and holding it with my hand all the time. I'd like to just be able to read books in any position I want, just staring into space ahead of me--sitting down, lying down with my hands free, arms crossed over my chest or under my head, etc.

Great content, as always. Would love to see a dedicated Steam Deck-Rokid Max video. I'm thinking of getting these for short trips / delegations but I've never tried anything like this and I'm slightly worried the actual image quality will disappoint me (especially off-center, near the edges). Also, not sure if I like the idea of the image following my head around this way.

Hey Broh! I'm about to buy the Rokid Max, but here's the thing: I wear glasses and I have hyperopia, which is basically the opposite of myopia. Can I comfortably use the Rokid with my glasses, or do I need to order special lenses with the Lens Inserts? Or is there a way to adjust it with the myopia setting that the glasses come with by default? Thanks in advance!! 💖

I have the Rokid Air (older version of Rokid Max) and I am able to stack my glasses underneah it. It really depends on the shape of your glasses. Also I put some duct tape to avoid scratching my glasses. If you are able to watch a TV at 6 meters away you might not need glasses at all, because that's basically what it appears like.

Thanks for another great video Mike! The glasses look much more muted compared to the Rokid Airs., there are at least a few competitors in this space already though (Nreal being the biggest one probably, along with TCL). The specs are VERY similar and it boils down to a "you get what you pay for" type deal. In my review of the Nreal Airs, my biggest gripe was the FOV, understandably that's just due to the limited range, I'm not sold on how much better 4 degrees (when compared to the Rokid Max) is but I do think as soon as these devices come down in price a little bit, we should see mass adoption.
@mike.barnes Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Oh interesting, I also have a pair of Rokid airs they sent me. I would say the max is considerably better in every way. The screen size is abit bigger, but it’s mainly the brightness and boldness of the max that makes it feel very different. Yeah I agree, I think AR is going to blow up over the next few years!

Hey man! Ahh yeah I know right, if I ever get my hands on em I’d love to do a comparison. Im sure some bigger KZbinrs who get both will do a comparison real soon. Really good question about the battery life. I haven’t done solid enough tests to give you any raw data but from what I’ve found it does drain phones/laptops a little more than usual. On the steam deck however, it doesn’t seem to make too much difference as the steam decks screen shuts down once you plug it in, saving some power which is instead used to powering the glasses.
@perrywaaz3660 Жыл бұрын
@@mike.barnes Sweet! I would've thought it would drain the battery faster because it 1080p and oled. I guess maybe cause the screen is so small?

What about battery drainage? Steam deck has only one USB-C port, so you can't charge while using them. :(
@jptan6947 Жыл бұрын
Hi! You can charge the deck and use USB-C AR glasses using a dongle like the nubia redmagic adapter - it's what I use for my deck. Cheers.
@mike.barnes Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Hope you’re having a good day. As Jp helpfully pointed out, you can buy an adapter to charge the steam deck while using the glasses. I’ve done a rough bit of testing with battery life when using the deck and I found it doesn’t affect it very much as it shuts off the decks display when plugged in, which saves some power which is used to power the glasses. But I’m thinking of doing a dedicated video about using it with the steam deck if people are interested in that, so will do some more in-depth testing if that happens!

@chuckrichardson83 Жыл бұрын
I love how reviewers leave out all the juicy stuff cause they either got sponsored, paid, got the item for free, or all of the above. Here's what you SHOULD know about the Rokid AR glasses before making ur purchase... For starters they are not AR by any means... they attempt to simulate an AR space, like Samsung Dex simulates a desktop experience. Just like how you need a Samsung phone to use Dex you need an AR capable phone for this. Basically all it is bringing up a secondary type of a home screen on your phone but you don't see it because it display ports out to your TV and like Dex your phone becomes the pointer. AR glasses cost thousands of dollars not hundreds. These are nothing more than a pair display port glasses of 1080p /60 specs. That it. A 300 some odd dollar display port sitting on your face. Also the "myopic" dials... those aren't true either all they are all zooms for each eye that'll allow it to go further or closer to you...a magnifier if you will... and since it only does distance not panning left or right it causes a blur effect around all four of the corners due to the overlay that you can't properly fix because you can't move them to the right and left like you can with say like an Oculus headset.... which means unless your gaming are watching a movie or not going to be using these for much because trying to read words and letters is not necessarily the easiest because of this partial overlay which tends to bring a haze to characters... these would not be decent for productivity. As far as the screen size goes I don't know where they get this whole 120in give or take a few numbers depending on where you're at it from, screen size.... because it's a display that shows up on your face about the size of a 32-inch monitor maybe less... (the picture is smaller than My Samsung M7 monitor. These are comfortable to wear despite the fact that in order to see the screen properly you have to put them very far down on your nose, but because u are tethered to the glasses, there's a small fight behind vision clarity and comfort as where they sit on ur face. They claim you don't need to use glasses with these but if you have astigmatism you're going to need to and they do not shake hands very well you can't wear your glasses with these.. Not even an option like Nreal... Oh and another thing - unless you know how to read foreign hieroglyphics, you'll get nowhere with these directions as this company is a third party company started out in China somewhere and the directions that you get are only in such. These are glasses that were made by a third party company started on something like Kickstarter sold on places like Amazon where they can easily take advantage of a seller that doesn't know the difference. These attempt one thing to simulate AR and it doesn't do it very well. As far as a DisplayPort they are meager at best, and you would be better off spending your money elsewhere on an actual portable DisplayPort. These are mainly a gimmick you buy for your kids on a holiday to keep them busy for hours with their Nintendo switch.
@zero11010 Жыл бұрын
8:05 Just over an hour is the time you'd wear these comfortably? So, not enough for most modern movies. Not enough to do any real gaming. They connect to a laptop and it's a giant screen, but, not useful enough to work in. So, this is just a toy at this point. It's not very usable. I couldn't use this for real gaming around my partner to let her do her thing on the TV while I do something else nearby. I couldn't use this as a massive screen while on a flight. I couldn't use this as a potential monitor to do my work. This really just is a toy to put on for a minute.
