You are a brave man, Jared Hoyman, I would NEVER add up the cost of my lenses! It’s forbidden. Lol. Enjoyed your video.

My wife watched the video this morning. Maybe I should have omitted some of that. LOL. Glad you enjoyed it.

Definitely want a video on the medium format lenses. I love the idea of an 80 mm compression with a 50 mm field of view.

I'm thinking of doing an unequal comparison with the 80mm Mamiya and the Canon 50 1.4 RF.

@ I love that idea even more. I would get to see the idea of a medium format lens plus also what’s the difference between my actual 50 mm I already have.

70-200 and 24-105 for me (2.8). Still surprised you don't have the 24-105 2.8 (cost a tons, but damn....stunning lens, don't regret buying mine.). And in the end I bought the 50 1.4 VCM after one of your videos. You were right. Excellent lens (focus breathing is just smoooooth.) Thanks.

I’m glad you love the 50 1.4. It’s my new favorite. If the 24-105 2.8 existed when I was looking at the 24-70 2.8 I would have bought the 24-105 2.8. If I could get around $2k for my 24-70 I would probably jump on it. How do you like the internal zoom and focus breathing? Have you used the electronic zoom adapter yet? That would make for some awesome dolly “Hitchcock” effects.

I still have mostly EF L glass with just one exception, the RF 85 1.2L. The RF 85 is almost optically perfect whereas the EF 85 series had CA issues. All my EF L glass works flawlessly. I just can't convince myself with the astronomical price of RF L glass is going to make me anymore money over the EF L glass.

Return on investment is a huge factor in making that decision. The switch really comes down to convenience and size and not really optical quality. It's a want more than a need. I will say the 24-105 F4 is WAY better than the EF version and there is no 14-35 F4 in EF or even a 15-35 2.8 in EF either. The 85 1.2 has always peaked my interest, but I will wait until the 1.4 version comes out and save $1,000.

The 70-200/4L is my favorite lens in that range for travel. I have it and the f2.8 version since the f4 version came out later. The 2.8 one rarely gets used now. At least for the two I own, the f4 lens is as sharp at comparable apertures and has less CA. That plus the fact that it is smaller and lighter makes it a no brainer unless you absolutely have to have the extra f-stop of 2.8.

That’s good to know. I haven’t tried the 2.8 but coming from the Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 I don’t miss 2.8 at all. The F4 is so easy and fun to travel with.

Perhaps 24-70 f2.8 OR 24-105 f4 and 70-200 f2.8. Just one lens 24-70 f2.8. Though I love the cheap nifty fifty non-L f1.8 due to its size and light weight 😊.

Sold my 24-105 F4 and purchased 24-70 F2.8. I really do miss the extra zoom on 24-105

That was me too. After I sold my EF version 1 I kept looking back at the images I got from it and missed it. Now I use it more than my 2.8 version. I may rent the 24-105 2.8 zed lens and see if that makes more sense. I would still keep the F4 for travel.

I enjoy the 24-105 f/4 and the 70-200 f/2.8 I wish Canon had a good wide prime L lens such as a 20mm f/1.8 I do have the 35mm f/1.4 L and that is what I use for street photos. I have a few more L lenses but they become a bit heavy as does the 70-200 f/2.8 which I use for rodeo and pet photography. Using a Canon R5.

The 24 1.4 RF looks tempting, but I would be more tempted to get a 20 1.4 if it comes out. Another person commented that they use their 70-200 f4 way more than there 2.8 version because of the weight. I do love my 70-200 rf f4, but if you are finding yourself shooting a lot at 2.8 you may not like it.

@@JaredHoyman Thanks again for your video. I too think I would enjoy a 20mm f/1.4 I used my older Nikon d810 with the f mount 20 f/1.8 and really enjoyed that combo. I had a 70-200 f/4 and traded for a f/2.8 thinking I would photograph indoor high school sports my granddaughters played in. I also enjoy photographing rodeos and thought I would attend more nighttime rodeos. Nether has panned out to my liking. I am considering trading my 70-200 f/2.8 and going back to the f/4 same with my 15-35 f/2.8 and going to the 14-35mm f/4.0 mainly for landscapes and weather images. Gosh we are living in some good photo equipment times. I am retired and 71 so lighter is becoming better especially when walking about.

I completely agree! The F4 Lenses are so good, sharp and light. With amazing ISO in these mirrorless cameras we are getting clean images at high ISO. I think you will really like the 14-35. That extra MM is bigger than you think. Try renting it first. Keep enjoying the shoots!
