I got Beit Alpha last year after hearing about from you, and planted it in spring, and it has been crazy. I’ve given away cukes to all my family, friends and neighbors. Just six plants have produced dozens of cucumbers. It’s still producing strong and I’ve made a succession planting that is just starting to flower. This has been my best cucumber crop ever. The idea of a better variety is mind boggling. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for showing me that you can support cucumbers with plant clips and strings and don't necessarily require something more elaborate like fencing. I do small space gardening and adapt growing practices to containers. I like to use 22 inch half whiskey barrel containers (Rural King) and storage totes in which I install holsters made of 1/2 inch irrigation tubing to insert green stakes and build up a trellis from there. Other information in this video was helpful too.

I am growing suyo long which is documented as being parthenocarpic. I tried using organza bags to prevent pollination and try to get seedless cucumbers. I suspected it might not have been that easy and my experiment was a fail. Have you figured out how to do this yet? If so I would love to see a video on the process. Keep up all the great video content! All your fig tree progress inspired me and I now have five fig trees in two different varieties from cuttings on our own property! Thank you for that!

@TheMillennialGardener
@TheMillennialGardener Жыл бұрын
No. There are no such things as GMO seeds sold to residents. You have to be a giant farm and sign enormous contracts to get GMO seed, and you cannot give it out. If you had GMO seed, you could be sued by the companies. It's their property. No seed sold in packets or online is going to be GMO, and "non-GMO" labels are a scam designed to get people to pay more for seeds. They're all non-GMO.

After watching this video I went to Burpee’s site and found Party Time sold out. But they did have these: “Cucumber, Merlin Hybrid 4.8 out of 5 stars. Read reviews for average rating value is 4.8 of 5. Expect a bounty of sweet, crispy cukes for slicing and snacking. A sweet snacker that quickly works its magic in the garden: early maturing and high yielding! Crispy, 5-7” cucumbers taste incredible sliced on salads. Vining plants with good disease resistance produce 1-2 fruits per node every few days. All female-flowering type requires no pollination for fruiting.”

Plus its a native bee that does great in our region and pollinates way better than honey bees, and if they do sting the mosquito bite is worse because of how small the stinger is.

I'm just starting to get into gardening this year. I got a couple Bonnie bush hybrid plants from either lowes or HDepot. I guess they're parthenocarpic because they've been producing fairly well and I don't see any bees. I only transplanted them into a 7 gal grow bag and I used that cheap potting soil. The potting soil doesn't hold moister at all so I'm watering every morning and had to water in the evening a couple times. I'm in Manvel Tx. and it's getting to the mid 90's here. Plants are doing good so far. I'm trying different cucumbers types and have some seedlings growing that will be up potted soon..

@@TheMillennialGardener Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, other than a couple of lemon cucumber vines that are already about 7 feet tall, the rest are just coming out of the seed trays today…the China Jade sprouted last week and the Beit Alpha, just yesterday.. I have tons of shade cloth, though it may be a bit much for most parts of the country, I do use it here (70 something %), and it has been the only salvation for a couple of tomato plants into fall production, over the last couple of years. Of yeah…the monsoon season has likely given way to the (all-of-a-sudden) hellish heat of Texas summer! Happy gardening to you and Dale!💞

Old school on most things, but this is gallaxies beyond talking seeds out of store-bought cuc's, and struggling. And FWIW, the AI (Auto Pilot) says Party Time is parthenocarpic.

Doesn't cross pollination only effect the plants made from seeds of the original plant? Did you use saved seeds from your previous plants fruit?
@TheMillennialGardener
@TheMillennialGardener Жыл бұрын
Usually, yes, but in the case of parthenocarpic varieties, no. Pollinated fruits produce seeds. Unfertilized parthenocarpic fruits that persist are seedless, so pollination will affect a parthenocarpic fruit.

@@TheMillennialGardener Thanks, that helps. That is about what we have been doing. We don't want to leave them on there too long and loose the plant.

I grow a variety called 'mini munch' which is very similar to this variety actually. Very prolific, all female flower producing and self pollinating 🥒

There is a lot of great breeding developments out there on cucumbers. The market has exploded with superior cultivars. I wish the same was done with zucchini.

I'm going to watch out for Party Time, maybe next year if I can't get them in time for this year. I actually was offered some lemon cucumbers today, but I've never had them before and I'm out of room at the moment until I do my next succession planting. I just plant way too many tomatoes!

Two years ago, you mentioned that growing monoecious cucumbers along with parthenocarpic cucumbers would destroy the quality of the parthenocarpic cucumbers. Is that still the case?

I have grown it and I really love the long Japanese types, but Jade has poor disease resistance. The best one I've grown is Summer Dance.

Hey, did you grow Party time on 1 main leader? Is the first Party Time 2 plants next to each other? Or is it 1 plant?
