At long last, my favorite headphones - the AKG K7xx Massdrop Edition - have custom ear pads! Dekoni sent out their entire lineup of custom ear pads for these headphones so I could review them all and see which one is my favorite! Which would you use?

Thank you so much for this! I've been looking for replacement pads for my K7xx for forever now since they've been worn down after a couple years of use and nothing I've seen has made me really care or bother to pay just to get it back to it's new feel but I'm definitely picking some of the fenestrated sheep skin, props to Dekoni for making pads for specific headphones as I'd think it'd be a really limited/niche group of people going for these as the 7xx stock pads are actually decent IMO.

@@norakat I ended up getting the hybrid pads since they were out of stock of the fenestrated sheep skin ones, they're really comfortable and fit perfectly, the soundstage has not significantly changed in my opinion. The only issue I have is the price, it's very high quality and I'm not upset with my purchase, but it's hard to justify spending so much money on just replacement pads especially now with limited income if you've been financially affected by covid.

@@Napstablooky - Thanks for your reply. Did they come with the foam inserts for the driver side? (for the AKG 7xx's) Would you say they are hands down better than the original ear pads (velour if AKG 701's).

@@norakat The foam disks no I don't think they had those when I got them, I would say they are hands down better than the original velour, though the only reason I replaced them was because they were old and needed to be replaced, if you're happy with the original pads (they are actually really good for stock pads) I don't think you should spend the money for replacements.

Really, really good review! I went with the Dekoni calf-skin, and I agree that the heat regulation is quite good.

Velour has heating issues how? Velour has the best air flow compare against leather/pleather, especially in long session uses. Try wearing anything leather in a hot/humid climate and see if you still think velour has heating issues.

In normal means in clothing ..velour also is quite warm..in terms of headphones idk but in terms of airflow true it has more airflow but it keeps you pretty warm i think...and using leather in cold environments actually is better as it holds the temperature longer than velour... probably..just a speculation.. nothing too scientific..it actually does make me scratch my head wondering that a lot of reviewers would also say the opposite.So idk..

I guess it's different strokes for different folks, because that's not my experience of velour pads. I have sweated more with those than with acrylic or real leather. Personally. I have Dekoni's sheepskin pads now and have no perspiration issues with them. Just sayin'.

@@jasonchebib9411 thanks brother. was spewing when I found out (i) AKG have crumby ear pads for their K550 range and (ii) don't support replacement pads. Really happy to stumble on this video and have ordered a pair of Fen Sheepskin pads to try. fingers crossed.

@@norakat fenestrated were more expensive but changed the sound quality significantly. My local supplier in Perth explained why and were kind enough to help me exchange them. Wish you would have spoken about how each of these does affect the sound signature differently. Very interested in the sound signature difference between the elite sheepskin and fenestrated for this particular headphone.

@@EposVox Anything from general memory would help... Did you lose bass response or get an increased treble response with the fenestrated? Did the elite sheepskin muddy the sound or restrict the sound stage more the the fenestrated? Sometimes, things like this happen with different headphones with these pad varieties. I don't wanna spend close to 70 dollars for pads if they're going to make the sound unbearable to listen to.

I have a set of 4 Dekoni pads for my collection. So far I have the Elite Hybrid for my HD6XX, HE4XX, K712, and I have a custom made AKG K7XX Dekoni Elite Velour for my AD1000X. I really like the memory foam Dekoni uses it's damn near 2nd to none in comfort. The idea with all these pads is to tune your headphones. I was looking for a bit more bass out of some my cans so that is why I picked the Elite Hybrid pads. The Elite Hybrid have a tendency to add more bass while keeping mids and highs about the same. I highly recommend Dekoni pads even over Brainwavz pads.

I have played around with so many different cans (DT990, K702, Fidelio X2, T50rp mIII, SHP9500, ...) but the one pair of headphones I won't give up, the ones that I will keep forever are Sennheiser HD650s. They are pretty comfy from the beginning but the main thing is they NEVER get annoying. In fact they kind of disappear the longer you wear them. I had those on my head for 10 hours straight (and more) and I didn't even feel them anymore. And since they have the Sennheiser treble roll-off, you also won't get tired listening.

I honestly HATED how they wore when I reviewed them last year. But I ordered the Massdrop 6xx versions so I can give them another go when they ship in March or April (so far away!)

My HD6XX's clamp force is a bit much at 1st but once I broke them in they are just fine. For what I own, my K712 Pro and my AD1000X are insanely comfortable. Then it goes HE4XX, HD598, HD6XX, K553 Pro, and finally M220.

Do you think the perforated leather is cool enough to not let your ears sweat after long hours or is velour the best for that?

I bought a set of perforated Ori pads from ZMF for my HE-400i. I was ready to give up on them but never knew how a set of pads could change a headphone so much. No more ear fatigue. Comfort and sound are a huge plus with the Ori pads. I will be purchasing some Dekoni pads for my K712s that I just bought. I don't like the way my ears touch the drivers. The top of my right ear starts to hurt. Everyone is talking about how comfy the K712s are. But they are not comfy to me. Hope Dekoni pads will help.

Hey I've been keeping an eye for Dekoni pads now but since my country is 4x more expensive than USD I still have doubts. What do you think of the durability of the pads? How did you took care of them? Im afraid to be dissappinted because my Beyerdynamic leatherpad failed on me just six month after purchasing.

Hybrid deconi noticeably change the sound, feel as if they narrow the stage, move a little high and middle back and noticeably add bass, it becomes thick and rich. Perforated deconi are very similar to the original sound, and it is impossible to distinguish it from the layman. I tried to listen to what is changing, but nothing special, except that the bass probably becomes not so collected, as on the original ear pads, since the original ones are harder in themselves, but did not notice much difference in the scene, they are very similar. Гибридные декони заметно изменяют звук, по ощущениям как бы сужают сцену, отодвигают чуть высокие и середину назад и заметно прибавляют бас, он становится густой и насыщенный. Перфорированные же декони, очень схожи с оригинальным звуком, его и не различить обывателю. Пытался вслушаться, что же меняется, но особо ничего, кроме как наверное бас становится не такой собранный, так как на оригинальных амбушюрах, так как оригинальные более твердые сами по себе, но по сцене особой разницы и не заметил, очень очень похожи.

I've found earpads on aliexpress and they look exactly the same as these, even the back side and they cost less than a quarter what these do. I wouldn't be surprised if those where the same

What is a diameter of those earpads? My AKG K550's earpads disintegrated and so I've bought Brainwavs Sheepskin Memory Foam Earpads to replace them. They seem to be ok, but it would be good to have options when those will become history (maybe not for the foreseeable future, 'cause they already feel like being better quality than the original ones but still).

My AKG 553 Pro look to have the same size ear cup as my AKG 712 Pro. So sadly that means Dekoni doesn't make a compatible pad. I wish they did because I would get 2 of them one for my AKG 553 Pro and one for my Audio‑Technica ATH‑AD1000X.

@@scanjet1000 no I didn't buy aftermarket pads, in the begining the akg k712 pro hurted my ears but after some time (not to long) I didn't feel it anymore that my ears where touching the inside of the cup. And I wear them for 8hours sometimes ;)

@@theFunmonkey24 you dodged a bullet there. Tried dekoni fenestrated pads on my K712 and it ruined the sound, and I really mean ruined, not a single redeeming quality. AKG knew what they were doing when they designed those pads.
