I wanted to upload a vlog before the season started, highlighting what shoes I wear when I play disc golf. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about it recently, and I figured it was just easier to make a video about it rather than answer everyone individually. Super excited for the season to start!

Summarizing (mostly for myself later) Primus Trail Knit: All around shoe. Now a Gym Shoe Primus Swim Run: not as stretchy, Euro-only run. Good for dry rounds Tracker Decon: Go-to's. Slightly better traction than the Primus. Also fabric and not waterproof. Magna FG's: Waterproof all-around. Magna Forest: Tread is rubber. More of a boot tread. For super muddy rounds. Tracker Decon FG (high top): waterproof version of low tops. Ankle support is not for everyone.

Barefoot shoes are the way to go, not just for disc golf but for life and health. Been wearing Xero Shoes since before I discovered DG, and don't wear anything else now. Mesa Trail is my go-to in warm weather, Terraflex when it's moderate, Xcursion if it's cold. Will be getting the Mesa Trail WP (waterproof) soon I hope. I've tried several minimalist shoes, and Xeros are the best I've used.

Just a heads up, I tried the mesa trail WP and they're super stiff due to the waterproofing membrane they use. I had to return mine due to being too small, so have no idea if they break in, but just thought I'd warn you. Are the xcursion fusions stiff also?
@clintsawyer7702
@clintsawyer7702 5 ай бұрын
@@robertsoliz6821 any of the waterproof ones are always stiffer because of the membrane, there's really nothing you can do about that. They are still better than traditional shoes, so you just need to decide which is more important, the added flexibility, or the waterproof.

Been wearing the Magna FG for over two years now. I was always turning my ankles in regular shoes because of that feeling you mentioned of the sole being too far away from the body. Since I switched, I'm able to feel uneven ground and roots better and adjust my weight to protect my ankles. The grip and water resistance are great, but the increased ground feel has saved me easily dozens of rounds I'd have lost to injury. Not a super big believer in the alleged benefits or anything, but I've always preferred a more minimal shoe, so they were an easy transition for me.

I've been wearing Vivo for about a year and I love them, wish I had tried them sooner. I the prior 2 years I was wearing Salomon Sense Ride and they are great for a traditional shoe... But now, wearing "normal" shoes is weird haha. I have 4 pairs of Vivo Barefoot and just got the Magna Forest ESC a few weeks ago for the winters in MN and they are so perfect. But barefoot shoes aren't for everyone, your body will let you know soon after trying them if they aren't lol. Zero drop and wide toe box are the main reasons I switched and then fell in love with the ground feel. Glad more and more disc golfers are wearing these!

I love barefoot shoes and wear them for pretty much every occasion. The big difference is you need to learn to walk on the ball of the foot rather than striking the heel. But I wholeheartedly agree, my disc golf has improved since I started wearing Vivo’s. I’ll never go back to “normal” shoes.

I’ve been wearing vivos for the past few years and of all the ones I’ve tried, the Tracker Decon lows and high FG2s are my favorite. The only time I’ve ever had a grip problem was on slightly wet and sandy tee pads. They’re comfortable, with the “cleat-like” bottoms I can feel more than any shoe I’ve owned. Even the Lows are really water resistant. I cant wear any other shoes now, more so I want to. I still want to try the trail knit FGs as they had the same bottoms as the Primus trail all weathers which I also really liked.

In my opinion, the best "discgolf" shoes are the Nike SB Nyjah Free or Zoom skate shoes by Nyjah Huston. I can say from experience that after 2 years they have not ripped anywhere. I have been playing for 4 years and in the 2 years before that I destroyed 3 pairs (played a lot). Try it out, the shoes are very well designed.

Such great and well-edited content every time. Casey channel rocks! And definitely, Vivos are the best. For wet and mud (UK winter) though I use Meindl Bhutans. They are the only shoe (other than rubber boots or wellingtons made of rubber) that actually keep my feet dry in wet grass (which is the worst). All other supposedly 'waterproof' Gore-tex boots leak. Not Meindl. They are expensive (retail about 300USD) but my first pair lasted 20 years after which I handed them over to my son. That comes down at 13USD per year, which is not too bad.

I have two pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes Tracker Decon FG2 - LOVE the fit of these shoes. Very disappointed that I have a hole wore all the way through on one toe. I’ve got a question. I’ve been playing for less than a year but I come from a sports background and played collegiate sports as well. Most sports I’ve played from football, to baseball to rugby to skiing and weightlifting all want cleats, shoes or boots that have a solid base and minimal give to maximize the power transfer. Im surprised disc golf doesn’t do the same thing. My question after all that is why doesn’t disc golf do the same thing? Seems like these shoes are relatively softer and more flexible
@electrafone
@electrafone 5 ай бұрын
Hard cleats on concrete teepads would be dangerous. In disc golf, you need good grip but you also need to be able to roll and pivot your feet. The Vivo soles have good grip on all kinds of surfaces and terrain, but not too grippy so you can still pivot and roll comfortably. The rounded shape of the heel and sides really help with that. I feel I can execute my throwing form (such as it is) a lot better with Vivos on.
@thegrizzly52
@thegrizzly52 5 ай бұрын
@@electrafone definitely hard cleats would be bad on a tee pad. But interesting that there isn’t a more solid sole for a more consistent power transfer like weightlifting shoes.

Terex and Syncracy's both great when new, but absolute garbage quality. They fall apart after only a few months. For wet grass or wet conditions I have a pair of Keens that are great in all categories and very durable. Still looking for a dry condition breathable shoe that is of good quality and durability. You got me curious about these for sure. But I'm never ordering shoes online ever again. Must be able to try them on first.
@ChristopherLoverich
@ChristopherLoverich 5 ай бұрын
Terrex were real good, but not at all comfortable on my foot. I swapped for some Syncracy's which fit, look, feel perfect. But the grip is definitely not good compared to the Vivo's, particularly on slightly wet smoother surfaces / teepads. Its actually the only shoe I've ever consistently worried about / had slips in. I'm really hesitant to wear them now -- and watching Goose slip in his pair the other day (same day I sliipped, so it was on my mind), I was like ok its not just me lol. If they change the sole to be more like Vivo's (not thing, just similar tread / rubber), I'd be all over them. I really want to like them. But yeah, my vivo's are better overall. Just beware they are so thin, its REALLY different feeling. I'd personally like them a little thicker sole, but still my overall preferred shoe. And much more durable than my Syncracy's.
