That was a great video as always, but I do think they are some exceptions to this rule. For example the whole reason why Reservoir Dogs feels so unique is that its a heist movie without the heist. Or the ending of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is all about subverting our expectations, thinking they will be a big climactic battle just for the cops to show up and arrest them before anything spectacular happens (also the fact that they've been looking for the Holy Grail the whole movie but they never even come close to finding it) So I think that some movies actually benefit from removing these inevitable scenes, it can subvert our expectation for either a joke or dramatic effect, and it can make your movie stand out by having the writer find other unique ways of telling a story while also forcing the viewer/reader to use their imagination to fill in the blanks. (But still, in most cases this is really good advice I'm just nitpicking)

Res Dogs was the first thing I thought of, but I guess the twist is- you don’t see the heist. “In the aftermath of a heist gone wrong the surviving robbers try to uncover the rat” might be the logline, which would still work imho

The knowledge you provide us is timeless, sir. I write novel but your perspective on storytelling is a huge change for me. Thank you very much! (And i really mean it when i say 'timeless', not because of the information but the way you convey it.)

A lot of your videos are great Jacob, and I'm taking your consultation soon. But all your videos are geared towards beginner screenwriters. What about those with accolades, say from Austin?

To me, you don't go straight to the point but elaborate too much on the obvious. You're dealing with writers not college students.

What I and many other writers have learned over the years is...script doctors have hundreds, if not thousands of rules to destroy anyone's screenplay with. Not to say you personally are doing so. If you, Jake, or any other screenplay consultant knows 100% perfectly how to write a screenplay that sells for big money...then why aren't you doing just that? Where can we all find a certified list of all the screenplays you have optioned or sold...so we can verify your success? How do you know for sure every single filmmaker will do this, or that, according to your videos? Do you personally know every single filmmaker in the USA? If the top 5 directors in Hollywood wrote a screenplay under an alias...and they gave it to 25 script doctors for notes...the scripts would all come back with various notes, on various pages. Did you say you were a...Born Again Christian? You seem to be losing weight my friend. More and more writers are steering clear of these coverage services, readers, etc.

100% You ever tried the Blacklist? Can get anywhere from 8/10 (recommend) to 4/10 (dogshit) for the exact same script depending on the reader. It’s all very very subjective

the people who do post on KZbin often give conflicting advice, see this a lot with all the screenwriting books I have, if you read all the books, watch all the KZbin videos on this, you will never a page -- coverage helps you hone your writing since you need feedback
