Great job guys. I didn’t take this as a slight against Subaru at all. As all of us in snow states know, Subaru is the mainstream standard for awd. Unfortunately, not all of us have 1) a Subaru dealer we want to deal with or 2) we’re weary of the decline in build quality ( justified or not) or 3) we’ve driven Subarus for years and really would like to see what else may be out there. Personally, I’d like a Maverick but dealers around me are still playing the over MSRP game.

Lifted hatch backs are a great segment of car. I don't get the hate, they are practical due to their hatchback nature, and their ground clearance is more forgiving than sedans/compacts when it comes to some of the garbage tier roads we have, but they aren't nearly as obnoxious on the road as midsize or full size SUVs. Edit: whoops replied to the wrong guy

A car that's easy to repair, but breaks often, or won't last more than 10-15 years is NOT reliable. Look at the reliability rankings from consumer reports before you respond. Also, look around you when on the road or in any parking lot... not many old Mitsubishi vehicles around(truly a shame...as I've always liked their products styling and performance).

99% of all cars with bad paint jobs is because they were ordered with a cheap inferior protectice clear coat sealant. Always discuss with the dealer the sealing coat. Often times they dont disclose that it doesnt have a sealing coat. You have to pay more for it. Also, in many states dealerships are allowed to recieve vehicles with a certain percentage damage. Fix it up and sell it to you. If the car hauler damaged the vehicle in any way. They do not have to disclose this information. Unless you force them to in arbitrary agreement.

Well as a GTI owner there are definite advantages of having your seat on the ground. You get better mpg's and much better handling. That being said you have to drop down into them and climb back out. The other issue is I have to use the beep feature on my key to find it in the parking lot. One big issue, for beat up winter roads you want a softer suspension and taller tire side walls.

@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck Жыл бұрын
I bet it isn’t. You can do the research yourself actually. If you go by comments, then exaggerations like yours create an impression that it’s that high. They have had some problems over the past few years, but never near even 20%. To have 10% is an extreme failure rate and they weren’t quite there. Don’t believe all of the comments as it seems people need to outdo each other and exaggerate either up or down. It like hearing from Toyota guys that think they don’t break at all. Toyotas break more often than believed. They are still great vehicles, but not the mythical cars that some would lead you to believe.

All rust the same here, actually Toyotas might rust faster. I don't see many Toyotas outside of the current generation of vehicles, except the Rav 4 which has some examples of the previous gen running around. Engine and transmission longevity mean nothing if the cancer eats everything around them. Finding an older Tundra, 4runner, Tacoma etc is like finding a needle in a haystack. The exception being the FJ cruiser which despite being out of production seem to be everywhere. So here where they coat the road, and your car in salt brine you are better off with a cheaper car than a Toyota because no matter what it's going to die in about 10-20 years. Edit: my favorite part about living here is when it's 40-50 degrees in November and they are just dumping salt on the road, which gets mixed with rainwater and splashes into all the crevices of your vehicle you can't wash easily. And then when late December-January hits and it's constant 20s or lower with actual ice and snow to contend with they shrug and say "running out of salt." So my car gets eaten, and I still have to drive on crap roads.

The cheapest vehicles on this list are definitely the best values, and not just because they are the cheapest. They're also better equipped than some of the more expensive models on the list. The Maverick and Corolla Cross are the worst equipped and priced in the mid-to the upper half. The Outlander Sport, though old-school, has a nice lifted driving height and excellent ground clearance at 8.5", beating some of the others, and has a fantastic reliability track record. It's the reliable value bargain here. The Seltos is more modern, but reliability doesn't hold a candle.

For me it's a choice between the Impreza hatch or Forester. Impreza is the best value and probably fits my needs. Plus it's likely to be an inferior AWD to any Subaru.

Here in Canada, Alberta, there occasionally are a few on the lots for sale. No hybrids, but XLTs and Lariats. The Tremor model will be hard to get unless you order one. If you order then it’s 3-4 months last I checked. I’m not TFL staff by the way. Just have a friend with a Ford dealership. He doesn’t have any coming that are unspoken for, but has a LOT ordered. Here in this area of Alberta, they are selling faster than they can be stocked.

I think that largely depends, my local Ford dealer will never charge more than MSRP, so they are showing up more and more on the road, but to pull one off the lot is impossible. I've only ever seen two on their lot, one in the new car space (which I was able to walk around and get a feel for its size, and to me it's perfect) and one on their used lot as I drove by one day. The one I walked around was already sold or I would have asked for a drive, to give you an idea.

@@AHungryHunky - nice to have a Ford dealership in the USA that doesn’t add market price adjustments.I know they are out there, but it seems there’s still a lot of greedy dealers. Here in Alberta Canada, the majority of the Ford dealers do not charge market price adjustments. There’s one in Edmonton, Alberta though that is a SVT approved dealership that has several Raptors and even a couple of RaptorRs. The Raptors are marked up by $25,000, the RaptorR is marked up $50,000 (Canadian dollars), they even have a Mustang GT500 and IT’s marked up $25,000 as well!! Freedom Ford in Edmonton. They used to mark up almost everything, but some of their prices appear to be MSRP now. Personally I think Ford should strip the dealership’s SVT approval and redistribute the Raptors and SVT vehicles they have & they were supposed to get, and ban the sale of SVT products from them!! I know the dealership I use would not charge more than MSRP and a $549 cad processing fee. You can likely negotiate the fee. For regular pickups, they negotiate more than that!! Especially now that Ram is offering the huge discounts like they used to. 15% - 20% off 1500 Classics. 10% off of the “new” Ram 1500s and even $2500 - $5000 off the HD models!! They can’t deal that far as those are manufacturer incentives, not the dealerships, but they will deal! Ram is trying to get to a true #2 status over Chevy & GM it appears. They were hugely overpriced anyways. The tide is changing here in Canada, hopefully it gets better for all of you in the USA as well!!

Fiat does indeed still sells the 500x $27,965 starting price for the Pop model !!! Even the Jeep Renegade is standard AWD now and starts at $30,490 for the Latitude Model.

I realize these are all new cars - but if you are willing to go with slightly used (or even more heavily used), you can take advantage of high depreciation of new cars to get a lot of car for the same $$$. My 2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS has AWD and is still a lot of car today. At $17K, it was less expensive than every car on the list. Seems to me that if you go for something a bit newer, you should be able to get an AWD car that was originally $30-50K for a price that beats anything on the list, and is still new enough to include several high end features. Just find the sweet spot that works for you.

Used Q50 AWD. 3-4 years old anywhere from about $20-30k. A lot quicker than probably all cars on the list, decent looks and you can find one with some warranty remaining fairly low mileage. Also a usable back seat.

Just bought a 2023 impreza base 5 speed for $19k so thats why subaru, they are the go to for cheap awd, and as a bonus you get the boxer engine, low center of gravity, 5 speed manual, none of the other vehicles listed here are interesting to me or offer similar options, its why i bought what i bought i wanted a subaru, $24k for kia is just sounds wrong lol and thats the cheapest one on this list, i wouldn't ever consider buying a kia, but i also dont like cross overs, and i dont like "tech" in my car, so ya this list would not work for me because i will go subaru every time

🤔I find your cost limit to be odd(and a bit arbitrary). IMO, under 30k qualifies as "cheap" now days. Admittedly, I made my purchase in 2020 and the landscape has changed a bit, but the only viable options I found were either Subaru or the Mazda 3 AWD. In 2020, I purchased my Mazda 3 hatchback AWD premium for 29,950. The deciding factor for me is always going to be the manufacturers who appear in the top 10 of consumer reports most reliable list. Starting that year Mazda claimed the number two spot bumping Toyota down to number 3. I really wanted a Corolla, but at that time they were not offering AWD. I'm glad at least three of the cars you mentioned, made the reliability cut, but for anyone who has a couple more grand to spend, the Mazda 3 should have made this list as well. After 2 years of ownership, I am extraordinarily happy with the car. Just something to consider, but maybe you guys who have the responsibility of giving advice to those who aren't really necessarily into cars, should factor reliability in. Your preferred choices, with the exception of the Corolla have very not good track records for long-term cost of ownership and reliability. You're doing a disservice to people who are putting their trust in you.

The Chevy Trax AWD was cheaper than the Trailblazer. My 2021 Trax AWD was $22,900 and I believe the 2022s were around the same price. Unfortunately, the redesigned 2024 Trax will not offer AWD.
