Ive had about half a dozen pairs of vans this year, they all wear out at the toe from footjams and on the sides from rubbing on the cranks.

I switched over to a set of DC High tops. Picked them over my usual Vans because they were stitched on instead on bonded or glued had them for over 2 years now and they're still holding up. They aren't the prettiest and they are a little worse for wear but holding nonetheless can't wait to get my daughter into riding. She's still a little young yet but love what your doing. Seeing you ride gives me inspiration to get better myself. And make me miss my home in Delaware. Keep up the great work. Your the best man

I get airwalk shoes, they're cheap and cheerful but they last a couple of years and I can buy 3 or 4 pairs for the price of one pair of Vans, which may only last a couple of years as my feet tend to eat through any trainers pretty quick!

I got 3 pairs of some discontinued vision mc 14000's a few years ago for $19'each and they were some of my favorite shoes I ever rode in, and they lasted forever.

Have the exact 112 Mids (diff color) shoes and same issue within a couple weeks. Have had a pair of OG Nike Janoski’s and have lasted like 5 years plus of hard riding (mtb and bmx) and zero issues. Still going strong

@@N-B-MMA Yeah, although many people think that 5.10 shoes are worse now that Adidas owns them. Couldn’t tell you! But my Janoski’s smell like like death. That is maybe the only bad thing about indestructible shoes lol

I had some Vans disconnect like that on the heel after only WALKING in them to and from college. It was the basic "pro" version of lowtop Vans with the thicker insole. Oddly enough, I have an identical pair that I rode BMX and skated in for the same length of time or longer that the soles still haven't disconnected on. It's really weird.

Back in the day I wore Vision Street Wear shoes with just the insole that came with them not much cushions but great support around your ankles . I wish Vision would come back out .

@Ray Roberts yea & they had a lot of grip on your tires , pegs & pedals . I stoped wearing them when I was 19 then went back to them when I was 25 & they were hard on the feet no Cushion it was like walking on bare concrete not great for walking on all day .

Vans has done that since the 90s it’s like they use cheep glue when any sort of dirt or moisture gets between the rubber they just come apart

Vans doesn't sew on their soles anymore they're all vulcanized, cheaper process but now they fall apart. I have an old set of van from 2008 the soles were sewn in to the shoe. Guess that why i am still wearing them....

i have had many vans. i am big. heavy. a huge guy. never have i had the soles come apart like that. even after a year. i do flatland mostly but i do ride street and park. i have had the pins chunk out the bottom over time. but never the outer soul separate like that.

The last string for me with vans were when I got the peraza signature shoe. I never went through a shoe so fast. I think I got maybe 15 hours of riding on them before they were tore up and decided to find a new shoe.

I use black 40$ standard vans shoes and change them every 6 months when the sole gets worn out.

My Vans tend to last a while, definitely longer than 5.10's. I just ride dirt jumps for the most part so probably not has hard on shoes as someone doin footjambs, etc...

I personally use Vans Pro BMX (Matthias Dandois version) and they are holding up fairly well. But yup, the sole ALWAYS comes loose. Also, you killed the “bouncy thing”!!!

Only issue I have with Van's is I cant get my foot off the pedal sometimes when I need to put a foot down and end up making me bust my butt lol

I run big mtb metal pedals with quite decent spikes on them, and vans shoes. I mostly have had problems with holes in the soles. My last pair had to be retired because right made a hole all the way through it, so far that the spikes could touch my sock

I had pair of Vans Kyle Walker pro model shoes that are my top five for good /comfy shoes but the base(gum) bottom separated from the canvas of the shoe and i rocked those for stocking shelves,never skated in them.

You should see my vans the bottom litteraly fell off or ripped, the toe ripped while doing a footjam, and the line on the side fell off

i’ve been skating and biking in vans since around ‘92. i add insoles and look for ones made in Vietnam, not china. nothing locks griptape and pedals like a vans sole.

I have the same problem with Vans. Switched to Puma Rebound high tops and more comfortable and holding up better.

I used to swear by Etnies-Valleys in high school, but switched to slip on white vans & skate pro white hi-tops one time I blew out the bottom swear to Satan the bottom part was detached from the sneaker so I emailed vans they sent a free pair, they blew out in under a week so I switched it up and they gave me a 20% discount. But I just rode a pair of Nike SB Janoski white mids with AMAZING grip, I would dig the trails then ride in them, I’m brakeless & this one berm I’ll slide my foot back and after time it developed a hole if I rode brakes I’d still be riding them.

Run SK8 Pro BMX. After one ride the inner patch work was torn on both shoes by my crank. Yeah, it was the crank but seriously what ever happened to R and D.

Yes, all the vans shoes I have I use shoe goo to keep them together. I also use a pair of steel toe Dakota brand skate shoes for the bmx riding.

Same thing happens to my Vans at least they are only 80 at most half the time I also those are my favorite style of vans too

Try the BMX specific Vans, they fixed this issue of the sole splitting in them.

Rode Etnies forever. Now I wear nothing but FiveTens. You get your money's worth and the comfort beats any skate shoe I've ever worn

I ride in some air force 1s, the highs with the strap that go around your ankle. I am able to foot jam without hurting my toes and i tend to get a lot of air and it takes a lot of stress off my feet compared to other shoes

I just got the new Cult X Vans oldschool (they also have a slip on) its not a hightop and it has the BMX sole I haven't ridden them yet but they seem really nice! I also have been running the demolition vans sk8-hi but these are high tops. I also hear Jordan 1's and dunks are good? I am completely new to BMX so I am curious about these myself

Insoles are a must for Vans or airwalks but honestly I’ve had best luck with some Jordans, and I’m old , like over 40 old . I need shoes that keep the pain away. Problem with some Jordans, they like to make the back of the sole stick way out which catches on pegs , there is no perfect shoe, hmm , see a need, fill it

I' ride track bikes and it does the same plus the strap wear apart the tops too, much quicker than some etnies or dunks Adidas superstars would. Still get more though. Easy and cheap. I actually ride indoor soccer shoes the most. They're usually put together and stitched really well so they hold up. and they're slim like vans but with a little thicker and more firm but still sticky sole.

I raced downhill mtb and used vans. Just run of the mill vans gray ones. They get dirty and the same bottom type. The rubber do fall aPart. And yeah vans are horrible to wear everywhere. You feel all rocks. But I still wear vans for mtb. I have the same gray pair for 3 years now. Flat but color was gray now dirty brown.

I literally am having this problem with my Vans shoe right now...4 weeks of moderate riding and I think I may get 1 more week maybe 2 max. I did just get a pair of the New Cult X Vans only time will tell.

Cant stand Van's for riding or everyday wear as well. They look really nice but, just dont last. Etnies will always be my number 1. I've had pairs last 2 years. And like another said, I have a pair with the Michelin soles and they're great

i ride the vans classic cuz i like the super thin non existent insole and there cheap enough to be disposable but the sole lasts as long as the expensive ones with the kush insole. plus if you buy insoles it doesn't matter anywho.

I've found the same issues with DCshoes, I believe it is down to cheap materials/ manufacturing.

I used to run the vans whip 2 shoes that Ryan guettle done, so comfy and long lasting too but vans stopped making them so I found it hard to find a decent set of shoes for bmx , I’ve actually used some no fear shoes that lasted me a year aswell which is surprising as they are dirt cheap from where I am from but I agree they need to bring out a good strong set of bmx shoes.

Yo Mike. I had classic black with white and my shoes did the exact same thing and I emailed them and they said it's not they fault. So I put super glue on the parts that came apart. So try super glue. And I walk hard. Bc my right foot is messed up.

The first BMX specific ones that Vans brought out, Kevin Perez (sure that’s not his name) one, they lasted me almost a year. I usually destroy vans in 6-12 weeks. They were great. The new ones, mid height ones are terrible. Lasted me less than a week before they started splitting. Don’t know why I keep buying them 😒

I had these vans called, Johnny layton vans, which I dont think they even make anymore, fall apart within a week, like seriously? a week, yes a week, unfortunately they couldnt do anything about it either, :( but still I ride with vans strictly because they grip the pedals the best, in my opinion.

I have the same issues with Vans not even riding bmx just playing ball or walking around, they fall apart way to quick. Heavy people seem to go through them even quicker like my roomate who gets a new pair every 5 months. I wonder why skaters tolerate it. I had DC Stuessy in the day Etnies etc they all held up better so now that I rebought my childhoods Mongoose Cali (the one you passed on) I decided to go with the Rads from Etnies and I think its a better shoe. They make a way better impression. The downside it's alot stiffer than my reg Vans and it doesn't feel as responsive when riding. However, a shoe should not be like a condom that you wear once and have to throw away, and that's especially the case for one that has to take a beating. ;)

I use a pair of vans Berle pros and I’ve had a pair last 7 months before ripping a bit I just got a new pair a month or 2 ago and wear them all day and the have a rip on just the white swoop thing but I like them personally

I have had pretty good riding with the Supra Muska skytops (Hightops due to ankle injuries) but the sole on that one seems very nice on low grip plastic pedals as well as metal pin pedals, but also they do come apart quite fast which i dont really enjoy, but seems to be the industry standard... also, there is a break in period, they are quite rigid in the beginning. Anyone else try these for BMX (also i use them for MTB as well)

4:30 every time I’ve worn vans they burn through the sole from breaking because I’m Breakless not tried the vans specific Bmx sole yet I have always worn Etnies sins 2003 my first pair of Etnies was Raps now I’m rocking the Etnies Michelin soles there are more durable I find 👍🚲💨

Im gonna buy some osiris’s im getting sick of vans the sk8 highs are the only hightop vans has and they break down so quick in the sides of the ankles. I hit my ankle bones on my cranks every friggin session and it sucks so ima get big squishy hightops n see if that helps. If yall have any better recommendations than osiris lmk

@@MikeFede 5 10 are now made by Adidas & not as good as used to be, impact high now have hard plastic/ fibre stuff under insole that makes feet go numb, eventually managed to rip it out, now so much more comfortable

Today my now 8 month old pair of Berle Pro vans had the entire front rip off. I got them because, like the ones you showed in the video, they have a piece of rubber over the toe. These also came with a built in insole. Don't get me wrong, these shoes felt incredible. I ride sometimes more than 3 times a week, so I get that they will fail eventually. But ripping in half randomly is a bit much. Put a couple stitches in it right? Is it a sport or not? I am willing to pay 2k for a freaking bicycle but I cant get a dadgum shoe company to make a shoe that does what I need it to? AND THERE ARE DUDES THAT WORK FOR THEM NOT TELLING THEM! YES MAKE A 200$ pair of freaking shoes that wont F up for 2 years! I will buy those stupid shoes! Better than almost dying because my shoe became a slipper while I was 9ft up!

Same, I have the pair of vans I use now and right out the box the stitching was coming apart on the suede near the lace eyelets. Once they completely trash I’ll never wear or buy another pair.
