There are no real laws against them doing this type of thing, they can sell or release your 'private' data to any third party company or even the public if they want. Not only that but most of them have protection from any type of lawsuit built right into their terms of service, you agree to it when you click that checkbox to sign up. The only reason companies don't do this type of thing more often is because of the negative publicity they'd get from doing so but they absolutely can and do sell your data that you willingly provide to them. Companies could care less about mining your data though, the only thing they typically use it for is to serve you targeted ads and content same way you start getting targeted ads for diapers if you were looking up kids clothes or whatever earlier. This is just about the only way they can use it maliciously, to sic the public on you but other than that most people aren't gonna care about some random dudes name being released or his search history either. Because most people are weak and insecure. People have gone generally softer and their insecurities make them more sensitive to playful banter. As a sa survivor it does make me a little uncomfortable to see tbagging, because it does make me think of my assault, but it still isn’t comparable to the actual assault I survived. And the act of tbagging/being tbagged isn’t assault anymore than a headshot in a game is an actual murder. I just avoid games with tbagging in them. Will some violent crime survivors be uncomfortable watching violent killings on screen? Sure, they might. That’s for the individual to handle. The league coming out and making these sweeping statements are ridiculous. If they want to ban tbagging, that’s their league and their business. Comparing it to real trauma is the overstep for me.
