Shino not being a Jonin is pretty annoying to his character. Like he was the team lead on Kurenai’s team, skilled tactician, has arguably one of the most destructive and invasive (literally) abilities with his bugs, being not being to use them to suck out and destroy enemy chakra but using them for covert ops to gain intel and spy. This guy is one of the last greatest ninjas that actually deserves way more respect and credit.

Kurenai team is not jonin material unfortunately^^ sad that none of the three jonin managed to do it like Kurenai himself. With Hinata you can still say that she wasn't interested. She was very intelligent and wasn't that weak either. Kiba is probably simply a weaker ninja than others due to his clan, but he is still a genius and is one of the strongest ninjas ever. And Shino was clearly the strongest and smartest. He should have been made a chunin just like Shikamaru. The only excuse was that they probably didn't realize how strong and good he was. He was actually better than Shikamaru when it came to tactics and options. You saw in his fight that he won where Shikamaru lost.

Depends on what the jonin exam tests. And its possible its not the same tests everytime, so people can luck out. Choji isnt smart, he isnt fast, and he doesnt have great stamina. His strengths are crazy but he has tons of exploitable weaknesses.

Kubo and oda who both have the same schedule and lots of health concerns but they were still able to focus on the side characters and main characters perfectly without downgrading and failing them in writing Naruto might be the most popular IP out of the three but its flaws are greater than both one piece and bleach we lucky Naruto and sasuke were carrying this series on its back It's still in my top20 not 10 and boruto unfortunately is in the top 70

I always said Genma should've been made a Jonin after the Konoha Crush arc. Not only did he stalemate with Baki, Baki is stated to be not just any Jonin, but THE strongest Jonin in the sand village. And fighting with 4 basically high Chunin level opponents who all have stupid hax while having no chakra and being outnumbered is pretty clearly a Jonin level feat.

Honestly, power-wise, Temari and Gaara were already higher than Baki in the chûnin exams. Temari's summon alone takes out most of Suna in one blow. Gaara is the only other powerful Suna character. I laughed at the 3rd Kazekage puppet, outside of Sasori's poison on the iron dust, it's super weak. Gaara was close to killing Deidara 1v1 while Sasori didn't even kill Sakura. Temari and Gaara>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the rest of Suna.

Just like how Gaara got stronger with his sand manipulation. He has a ton of sand-based feats from before becoming Kazekage and none of them are better than after. What you have to realize is that Temari you're referencing straight up lost to Sasuke who was trying to save his chakra to fight Gaara. Sasuke literally could've just speed blitzed her with Chidori. Kabuto expected Baki to clear Hayate Gecko in no diff but commended his strength when he was fighting Baki. Even though he got cut, Baki took that pretty handily, didn't even seem to be sweating after that fight. That goes to show that the Leaf Village is incredibly strong, not that Baki is weak. Baki is literally just Temari without a fan. He has strong, lethal wind style usage and I really just can't stand the Baki downplay. If you think a full fledged Jonin loses to chunin exams Sasuke, or Temari go ahead but it's pretty narratively implied things would go the opposite. Massive Temari wank. I hate that they gave the strongest wind style feat in the whole series to this part 1 weasel that shows up ONCE. Here's how Baki vs Temari goes. Because he definitely has to know she has that summon, he may have even taught it to her. Temari reaches for fan or goes to summon. Baki speed blitzes and kills her with wind style. If she tries to counter him by using speed, he'll do the same. He actually has a very distinct advantage against her.

I honestly believe Neji and Shino should have been special jonin/jonin post timeskip in the beginning of shippuden. Ive always felt that whenever I watched/read scenes with Shino and Neji, that they were already chunin level amongst the group in part 1. This would have shown just how far above they were as respective geniuses of their clans and in comparison to other characters. Seeing Neji in charge of his own team would not only serve as a display of skill for his character but also show him as a formidable rival to Naruto. Seeing Shino already achieve special jonin rank and conducting solo missions in the background would also have been a good excuse for why he hardly shows up throughout the story while also keeping him at a similar level of power to other characters in the story. This could also serve as a reason to create a new team later on for Hinata's squad once Kurenai was out of the picture. Kurenai could request for Shino or maybe bring back a fan favorite like Anko to take over as the new squad leader.

If he can fire it in rapid succession he could keep the bugs off of him until he can get in close range for Tai Justu which Shino was weak in for the longest time until he trained up. If Neji could keep the fight in close while using Byukagan to watch for the bugs he could slightly pull it off. But I don't think he could beat Shino under normal circumstances.

I get the feeling that updating the official rankings is something that Konoha doesn't get around to very often. Maybe it's usually at the bottom of the pile at the hokage's office since so many characters are doing jonin level assignments without being jonin. So the actual promotion would be more a formality than anything. Plus, with Naruto so in-demand, he probably never had time to take the chunin exam or finish his studies.

I think choji and Ini also deserve to be jonin . Choji is actually really strong especially with his butterfly mode and Ino is probably like the third or fourth most important ninja in konoha she is head of defence for crying out loud and she’s one of if not the best sensory ninja in all of konoha she is so good in her job that inojin at first didn’t even want to try to become a sensory ninja like it’s actually stupid that she isn’t. Also tenten has two legends ninja tools in her possession and knows how to use them that alone should make her a jonin if guy can’t become one by being a combat master tenten should become one for her expertise in ninja tools especially with how strong they have become in boruto if anything she should probably be a ninja tool instructor or something.

Naruto probably was still a genin cuz once you become a chunin or higher you would need to lead a team of fresh genin's and with how bad naruto is at raising kids himself and how childish he himself is, and as he is always busy kakashi probably thought it wouldn't be the best idea for naruto to lead a team. And leaving Naruto as a genin gave kakashi an excuse to keep a jounin on him to keep an eye on him in case he does something stupid. Like they can always have an excuse if naruto goes nuclear in another region like he's a genin still and he's not matured enough. If he was a jounin and went nuclear it would probably cause a lot of international problems and would hurt the leaf's reputation as to why naruto is leading a squad and doing things so recklessly. If he is a genin then naruto can leave the hard decisions to the team leader. Even as a hokage shikamaru is the actual true hokage doing all the decision making and political stuff.

I think the plan was to make the jonin hyper elite, however the narrative progression made these categories weird. Or, maybe the initial plan was to make the series about Naruto grinding for the ranks, but then kishimoto saw that this didn't had potential, so he dropped for other things.

In Shino's fight against Kankuro Shino dodged the Crow's blade only once, used an insect clone to tank a surprise attack, then finally jammed the Crow's joints with insects. Surprise attacks generally don't work well against Byakugan users, especially slow one like insects. We can see how neji would fare against bugs when he fought kidomaru and he fared well. Other than Sakon/Ukon, Kidomaru can be argued to be the strongest and most intelligent member of the Sound 4. Neji has that palms rotation shield too. As he got older he also got air palm and Gentle Fist Art One Blow Body. Neji's taijustu is also really good, so good that he can outright beat Lee, as Lee has never beaten him once and Shino not being a close-range fighter makes things even worse if he was to go against Neji.

Shino,Shikamaru,and Neji from the start seemed a bit more skilled then the rest. Not counting Lee who was hands down in my opinion strongest in the exams at that point with feats in the Leaf. Weights off, blitzes all. Sand protected Gaara. Who else could have at that time withstood? Naruto with 9 tails going nuts of course. Sasuke ok with training yada yada ok maybe. Neji with rotation maybe but i think its too much for him. I could absolutely be wrong but ... 8:17

I actually like the idea of Naruto remaining a genin, because for one, it just shows that rank, though telling, isn’t always the go to. As we saw in the literal first chapter of Naruto, a Chunin can lose to an academy student, and if Haku’s skill set is anything to go by, even a Jonin-level threat can be tested by a pair of genin. Rank is rank; but what matters most is what you have under your belt. Secondly, it’s also really funny to know that so far, the strongest Kage ever… is a genin! That’s just perfect! 😆😂🤣

Yes !!! They gain more money per mission, they get a higher chance of getting hired by noblemen who pay a lot , or take on serious dirty jobs or dangerous roles ( read : S rank mission) which pays more . The Genin will still be paid equally if they complete an S rank mission by himself ( like Naruto did) but Jonins get hired a lot . All the missions team 7 accomplished, Kakashi will get a higher cut of money for leading the kids .

Not necessarily, im guessing guy was able to raise his other stats to somewhat jonin level. He does have a 3 for everthing that isn't related to physical ability. And Kurinai is said to also have decent speed as well as taijutsu and ninjutsu too. Difference between them and special jonin is they are more well rounded on paper but choose to stick to their specialty, special jonin are only skilled in their specific specialty.

1000% agree that Shino was done dirty. Think about his ability with bugs, tiny enough to infiltrate and do covert ops at high level considering his proficiency of using them from a young age already. So as a spy he would be highly valuable, his close combat skills are high and if you get too close his bugs will infiltrate and drain your chakras same with medium range as he can send bugs towards people as well. His intelligence as well is high as well and battle iq is well above a lot of other characters. Also Tobi/Obito would’ve been finished by Shino in a single move had Obito not have the OP Kamui.

I believe in theory, many of these people could have become Jonin, but I think you should also keep in mind that skill and power are two different things. In order to be promoted to the rank one essentially needs to master multiple things, chakra natures, Genjutsu, taijutsu, Genjutsu, etc. Shino is powerful, but not skilled enough to be a Jonin. He is according to the data books, rather slow physically, he’s not physically, during the Chunin exams, he is besides, Choji literally the slowest person from Konoha, his strongest attribute is his intelligence and Ninjutsu, both his taijutsu, and Genjutsu is mediocre at best. So that’s my point, you can be as powerful as they come, you can hang with the best of it. However, being a Jonin is not really about one’s strength it’s about their skill and proficiency. From this list based on Data book stats, Gemna is higher tier Special Jonin, closest to earning Jonin based on skill. Kankuro lost to Shino, because Shino is smarter, and arguably more powerful.. again though, Kankuro’s stats are higher, he is more skilled overall than Shino

I think the rank just gives specialization. I do not think it necessarily has everything to do with skill. Genma and Raido were able to use the flying thunder god formation and thus were a special unit for transportation. Aoba was highly skilled in all but not at peak like other specializations. My guess was due to his high level in all random specializations like infiltration(crows), interrogation, genjutsu and Taijutsu, he was like a 5th wheel for random special missions without drawing away from main forces. Ibiki is the hidden leafs most renowned interrogation specialist. Anko was a forest of death proctor most likely due to abilities she learned from orochimaru. Nature, espionage, poison, the whole snake shit etc asspull.

Shino deserved the promotion during timeskip. Naruto should have been promoted to jonin after taking down pain or chunin after beating kakazu and should have officially took over konohamurus apprenticeship post war - becoming hokage. Sasuke should have became Anbu after the war and have lead team taka during his time outside the village in boruto. Rest of konoha 11 should have been promoted between timeskip and wedding arc instead of just shimakaru sakura and rocklee.

Rotation = insects dead, gentle fist = Shino done. insects need a specific chakra flow to contain properly if it’s disrupted shino loses which is what the gentle fist does. Let’s not even talk about the “body blow” that will counter any insect that tries to crawl on him (it literally countered kisame’s water prison jutsu), he has the “Hazan strike” which will one shot shino, he also has the air palm and the stronger version the “wall (vacuum) palm” that is literally a range attack that can also one shot shino. Also the Byakugan sees through shino’s attacks and spots slight openings for an attack. Temari’s one of the strongest wind style users in the series and can create the “wind style sea dragon” that can decimate cities. Konkuro got way stronger in the time skip and also later got access to Sasori as a puppet and possibly had the 3rd kazekage too lol. Shino should’ve been a jonin but don’t shit on other good characters to prove ya point.

i think jounins r not just a title, but also depending on their portfolios as well.... Ibiki & Anko are exam proctors, Shino decided to become a teacher, compared to the rest who held even bigger titles. Sakura is the Head of Konoha's Medical Unit, while Shikamaru is the Hokage's right hand man, effectively making him kinda the second-in-command of Konoha. Rock Lee, definitely deserved to be jounin, being easily the top 5 strongest konoha shinobi at that time.

I still stand by the fact that Naruto should have become a chunin after the konaha crush arc. Think about it, he displayed all the qualities of a great chunin, mainly he got his team out alive, which was like the main point of being a chunin. He rescued both Sakura and Saskue while demonstrating some great battle iq during his fight with Garra. He might not show the characteristics of being a great leader like Shikamaru.
