Whenever I play Jodah, it's me against the whole table, three-versus-one-headed giant style, which is its own kind of fun. Outlaws of Thunder Junction added a lot. Yesterday, I ramped with Bloom Tender and got Annie Joins Up; Kellan Joins Up; and Kellan, the Kid out, all before Jodah even hit the table. Absolutely ridiculous.

because of that, i gave my jodah deck a theme to make it less goodstuff and traded some synergies and busted auto includes for more fun for the rest of the group, and also me. i build jodah in the way that i can include only universe beyond cards and made him a UB Typal deck. atleast the art. you got all your typical ramp and carddraw eitjer reprinted with universe beyond art or have other options that fill the same role. obviously there are a lot of interesting universe beyond legendaries anf some really work super well with jodah like the war doctor from dr who or gimli of the clittering caves. jodah can be a super busted commander and honestly giving your deck a fun subtheme or building challenge can reduce the power of these commanders just enough that you can play them in your normal fairly optimzed games if your tired of being archenemy or tired of people complaining about you wanting to play your deck

I love playing K'rrik, particularly when everyone is made aware of what my lines of play are to win via rule 0 conversations. People see me just hiding away, prepping a big board state or attempting to just go for the win, it's fun for me to see if I can fight through adversity or not. If people don't play much interaction at the table, I simply won't play it. Time and place.

Ward is one of my favorite keywords simply because i hate when ppl always target my stuff. It’s never fun when your commander gets nuked immediately the turn it comes out over and over and having that extra turn or two of protection makes a huge impact on actually being able to get setup or get some use out of it

Really love Ward as well, cause it's such flexible protection. Mana, Life, Sacrifice, Discard, there are so many different Ward costs that brings variety to the game. I could also see Ward in the future including specific colored mana, making it untargetable against decks that don't play that color. Kind of like a weaker protection from x color

Yarok is one of my pet decks, yes it can do busted land things but there is a lot of other things it can do. Infinite mana, draw its whole deck, infinite life drain, steal the wholes tables boards, bounce the entire tables board, etc. You now have more ETB doublers with Virtue of knowledge and Panharmonicon, as well as using Spark double to copy Yarok and clever impersonator to copy anything you need including virtue or pan. To be fair a chunk of these commanders are CEDH commanders and I wouldn’t play them anywhere outside of high power and CEDH. I am just getting more convinced to build some of these decks now haha.

I have a Stella Lee deck that I personally don’t have the combo cards but I’ve upgraded her and she feels really nice to play. But playing against other decks she was not broken and lost most games unless you can get a mizzix mastery going with a ton of things that make tokens. I think she’s the perfect spell slinger deck without all the combos. Because she dosent force you to play only instants and sorcery’s to gain value which is nice and it’s balanced since your not getting triggers off your instant and sorcery stuff.

My next is Jodah playing medium and bad super friends and making them a creature to have them ride creatures via saddle :) A dear friend gifted me a beautiful Jodah so I will have a great use for all those walkers wasting away in the boxes. I’ve got a Korvold deck. Easily my favorite card in that deck is Hydra’s Growth. You double the amount of +1/+1 counters on enchanted creature I believe during your upkeep. (And double those if you have something like Doubling Season in play!) (AND, I could be wrong, this enchantment is one of the better budget enchantments in this deck.) Korvold goes from a 4/4 to a 20/20 SO EASILY. Best sac outlet is either of the Squees (other than, you know, Treasure tokens); just play him before Korvold, sac him to cast Korvold and then… cast him from your graveyard. Sac him again when you swing with Korvold, rinse and repeat. Enchant Korvold with Sixth Sense - green Curiosity, literally - and draw two cards instead of one every time you sac something or swing for combat. (Another great budget enchantment, more or less it’s an auto include in any deck I build in green.) This deck is such a fun deck to play, especially once the sacrificing machine is up and running (and it is… so easy to get that machine up and running).

It is one color but elesh norn mother of machines is broken stoping your opponents etb's and doubling yours and because white is good at exiling things you essentially make Sure they have no board while having everything happen on yours. And because there is ways to go infinite with etbs white is good at gaining life when creatures enter the battlefield. And because they have no board you can sometimes win with cards that say have this amount of life win the game. Probably one of the best white commanders

It's good but white has horrible card draw and if someone board wipes you're basically done. Not to mention nobody will actually let your commander stay on the board. Same reason why sheoldred, the apocalypse seems busted till you realize it's a 3v1 from turn 1.

In my Tiamat deck, generally speaking, the next card I play after Miirym is Lozhan, Dragon's Legacy. Half of my dragons cost 6-15 mana, so it's like dropping mini nukes after those two cards are online.

I tried Shallai and Hallar. It’s not good enough. It only affects one opponent at a time and that’s not as effective as it may seem. The best you have is War Elemental or Red Terror for an infinite loop.

Hinata doesn't specify when they are targeting _your_ permanents, it affects _all_ their targeting spells. Which means Hinata becomes a mid to high priority target for removal. If their spell is going to cost more no matter what they target, they might as well target Hinata.

Nice video and I agree with a lot of takes. Though including a commander that has not been released yet into this list feels strange. Like yes, on paper this commander (Stella Lee) is really, really strong but we have no experience to say that. Before the Kotori mech pre-con in kamigawa was released (and even a couple months after the release) no one recognized just how broken Shorikai was. A couple of years later, that card is the 13th most built commander. All I have to say is that our pre-release opinions matter less than post-release and just wanted to say that I believe including Stella Lee in this list is a strange decision. Also saying "All you need to do is" (45:08) then giving a long list of requirements is definitely one of the ways to add a huge bias to a take. I mean this commander requires you to cast 2 other spells, give haste (or atleast have it stick on the board), cast an untap spell that gives extra value, then find a win from that extra value. Not trying to say this commander is not really good, just saying that including Stella Lee instead of Niv-Mizzet, Parun is strange. Niv-Mizzet, Parun is a literal two card combo that wins the game without extra steps. As this 2 card combo includes protection (can't counter niv), card draw, and damage. Then you have other alt-win cons such as Thassa's that would be this combo's equivalent to Stella's finisher if somehow +90 damage doesn't win the game on the spot. EDIT: To summarize my point, I do not like hating on a card before it even sees play because in pre-release season people are wrong all the time. To the point to where it is a meme: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e52nqXx9bamao5o So bringing this much hate to a card before it is even released is just adding extra hate to a community for 0 reason (because the card was released 2 days ago). This video is different than Mitch's spoiler video because we expect to hear first impressions of card in a spoiler video. This is completely true. I went up against a Stella deck on Spelltable last week and even in my head I was like "oh great this is gonna be nuts" due to the overreaction online. I had never seen or played against the card before that. It was like, OK. Did a couple of cool things and then got destroyed. It definitely was not Korvold/Jodah levels of nothing-you-can-do-about-it sillyness. I'm sure there will be some excellent Stella decks, but it is definitely harder to go off than some of these Commanders.

I don't think a channel for playing magic on a budget, should be making videos about what is or isn't "over powered". Almost everything dies to removal. If your opponents ignore you and let you do whatever you want, ANY commander becomes broken and lethal. Sure, many of these commanders indeed have powerful effects, but Mitch keeps talking about them through the lens of uninterrupted power. Hinata is a commander I've wanted to build for a while now, but never did because the entire deck crumbles like wet paper when faced with any form of removal. Sure you're in blue and can use counter spells, but you can't expect to ALWAYS have a counter spell ready. By the sheer logistics of how commander works in general, no single player should be running away with the game just because their commander is powerful. If they do, then the pod was either imbalanced from the start, or the other players simply failed to interact where needed. I tried to build a Korvold deck at one point. I took it apart pretty quickly. Why? Because the table wouldn't let him stick around. They know what he CAN do so they all held onto removal for him early. This entire video is just you complaining about the potential top end of what these commanders /CAN/ do. In reality, you're still only winning about 25% of the time in a balanced pod. Calm down.

Pretty much agree here. Almost all of the commanders on this list are what I like to call top-heavy commanders. They really only work in pods full of solitaire decks that just focus on their own gameplay and race each other to a win since if the commander is removed 2-3 times the deck just stops working because the commander is too expensive at that point. My friend has a Myrrim deck and while it is strong, the deck legit crumbles if Myrrim is kept under control. Same goes for my Jodah deck, it can get crazy once the ball gets rolling, but if Jodah is handled properly it stays pretty much in check (also why I keep the curve at 3-4, so the deck can sustain itself even without the commander). Same also goes for my Jhoira deck (essentially the same setup Mitch discussed on his channel ages ago). The only thing I do kind of agree on is WoTC using the ward WAY too liberally.

Fantastic that Hinata taxes on everything not just protecting when they target your things but also their own or other player's items as well. Have seen this misplayed before. Opponents auras cost 1 more even if it's their own creature. Returning target cards from graveyard to hand? Costs that much more. Wanna blink your stuff? One extra for each. Wanna have target player draw two cards? Gonna take one more mana.

I don't think Shalai and Hallar are overpowered, but they make for a decent lieutenant in a Voja deck since they're also an elf and have a decent pay-off for putting 5-7 counters on all of your creatures whenever Voja attacks. The only time we brawl at the lgs is when some one touches your cards without permission. Obviously just kidding. I personally like running a few brawls on the side line for the people that didn't find a pod or table to play with. It's a great format to introduce new players to the game. The game's typically only go to turn 8-9 at a casual power level. you dont have to worry about being the archenemy meaning you can put on the gas early on. Any cedh decks are completely bonkers in a 1v1 format as there's only one opposing player to check them.

Hey Mitch. Your videos originally got me into commander a couple of years ago now with your introduction to EDH as well as your deck techs, and I really appreciate that. I do have to ask though, is there a reason you continuously use a mocking voice to make fun of wizards in almost every video lately? It makes sense to me that some of their decisions are questionable such as often putting ward on things where it isn't needed, but pulling out the child-like mocking tone multiple times per video in many videos to comment on it as well as their other decisions is making me hesitate to continue watching your content.
