the hit location ones for bipeds for sure would mainly cuz my group likes to play Deadlands Classic so all wounds are applied to a part of the body rather than a normal HP system so hit location matters even more mainly because it would be easier to determine hit location than having to remember the ranges for the d20 it normally uses and would just save time overall weather as a player or DM/GM/Storyteller/Marshall/Overseer since everyone needs to determine hit location on attacks regardless of if melee or ranged

I think this dice set is also perfect for solo players who would want a quick adventure scenario. You won't have to worry playing alone and spoil the thrill and challenge since the dice will decide for themselves.

I got a set of these from the original Kickstarter, and immediately gave them to my DM who loves them! Of course, i then started running a couple campaigns myself and regretted giving them away, so i splurged and bought a set for myself. Last night, i had a session where they took on a giant scorpion. I use the hit location dice on crits only, just to add some flair. Lo and behold, one player happened to crit on each of their first two turns, so it got rolled. The result? Two of its right legs got chopped off. The players went nuts, loving this addition, and i later got a hug from our youngest player, telling me that fight was the best fight he'd ever had in DnD!

It definitely is a more muted color. Seems more of the golden "shimmer" is towards the core and then surrounded by earth tones which brings down the shine. Looks better in bright light. Green would have looked great for this one, but I would guess there were probably concerns with regards to color-blindness and confusing it and the red "critical effect" die.

It’s translucent matte gold and will always require proper lighting to appear as bright gold. I saw a video about painting minis a while ago where they replicated gold or something metallic with shades of brown and yellow I believe. The main thing that brought it to life were the accents though, that suggested reflection and tricked the brain into thinking it’s actually metallic as "gold" isn’t a colour.

Looking at that damage one…..I’ve known many a gm who would use one like that and randomly roll it just to make anyone “usually me” paying attention to sit on edge worrying what was about to come. Suffice it to say I had friends who would mess with your character but not kill you outright to keep the story moving and comical.

@mattpace1026 just because your players don't, doesn't mean other players won't. My group thinks things like that keep you on your toes, and give you real world consequences of actions. Hell, the Pathfinder 2e Critical Hit/Miss decks are a hilarious addition to any campaign, and add some cool ways to mess with the people rolling poorly that night.

You can make the encounter difficulty die work even if you're planning out how much to put in the party's way. Instead of telling you how to build an encounter, the die would just tell you what order to chain up the encounters you already planned. If you get a roll that doesn't match anything on your list, you can either say "close enough" and pick something similar, or just roll again. You're just trying to deal out your list of encounters like you might deal a deck of cards.

If you're going to use these to run a game please consider how much of the DMing you're going to replace. Just because it's easy to decide things doesn't mean the decisions are going to be good ones. I've experienced a "By the die" DM at a con before and it wasn't fun.

I was expecting a 20-less d20 (also 1-less), for those times you absolutely don't want to crit. The 20 becomes another 2, and the 1 becomes a 19 (I think). It means rolls can remain in the open without the risk of screwing up a situation that is developing perfectly, like the party members are all one hit from going down and you don't want to kill them outright.
@dicecrazydude
@dicecrazydude 10 ай бұрын
That's an interesting way to handle critical success/failure. I guess you could always just tell your players that you are going to treat rolls that way, so then you can use your favorite D20 😀
@mal2ksc
@mal2ksc 10 ай бұрын
@@dicecrazydude I don't have a favorite d20. I usually choose my dice by choosing a color group the players aren't using, for minimal confusion. If they're green and red and orange, I might choose black and white, or I might choose blue. But the point is that you don't tell them why you're switching, and you can do it mid-fight without anyone else knowing the battle just got easier. In my case they wouldn't really know because I don't care whether I use the same dice from one session to the next. They just have to be distinctly different from all player dice, for those times when we're rolling on the same mat. I don't want them to know things are exactly the way I hoped they would be, and I don't want them to know I'm taking (baby) steps to keep it that way. I don't have any solid pink dice, so if I had a "no crits and no fumbles" d20, I'd probably go that route and then use a non-white fill for the numbers just in case someone else is playing pink dice.

The booklet that comes with the set lists the results, so you could always treat some of them as others if you don't want certain outcomes. Rolling behind a screen would help so the players don't see the changes, or roll a handful of dice so they don't know which one you are looking at :)

@@dicecrazydude Yes, it was their "weird" dice. Very disappointing overall. None were even close to being "weird". All were very overpriced, even at the discounted Kickstarter prices. A few sets were supposedly "weird" because they were small, basically the same as any other mini polyset. There was the one magnetic set, that was ok. Not really "weird", but at least a bit different. But the customer service is really the worst aspect, the constant emails and posts "THESE ARE THE WEIRDEST DICE EVER PRODUCED! EVERYONE LOVES THEM!" It's like the guy is trying to bully you into loving the dice. He's obnoxious as all get out. His dice are fine, not great, but fine. He's a goober :)

@@docvic9533 I really like the look of the magnet dice set, but totally agree that receiving tiny dice would have been disappointing. Large dice aren't really "weird" either, but at least would feel like a better deal. This set and the solar set seem like the "weirdest."
