It sucks to lose gear , especially when you have a good fish hooked up ! When I was about 15 years old ( fifty years ago ) I had a combo pulled into the water but I was able to snag the line and catch a twelve pound carp ! You did leave with a great stringer of fish ! 👍👍

I saw the heavy weight. I've lost a few lines with that style weight. A fellow introduced me to a "slinky" I think it's called. Like a weaved nylon tube where you stuff it with like .270 shot, same as buckshot. Then burn both ends, attach a swivel to it. It's supposed to be more mobile, agile so not to get hung up, as in rocks, limbs, etc. I just mention. Seems like it was the Fishermans' Shack in Oregon.

Great video! Although there was a point when I thought I was having a stroke or something around the 10 minute mark. For a minute, I thought there was a glitch in the matrix or something because I was sure I had just watched the exact same thing already. Then I realized that it wasn't a stroke, just you having two kids and a wife to dote on at home now. The editing took a hit, but fortunately, it happened during a part of the video when you both had a pair of studs ready for the stringer. So, as far as I'm concerned, that was a win for everyone. Thanks for getting back out there and letting us watch ya'll stringing up some slabs. God bless and stay safe 🙏

Old Fart tip... next time when you throw your catfish line out raise the rod tip high enough to reach over the top limbs of a tall bush a small tree such as what you were right next to on the left then reel up till the tip gets close enuff that you can lean the rod against the bush with the but still propped up on dry land...you won't be losing anymore gear bc it was unattended...from Texas

So far this year my only catches this year were a Siren ( it's a kind of salamander, they've got beady little eyes ,fringed ears, a mouth like a frog, stubby front legs, frog like back legs and a tail like an eel, and a lake sturgeon of about 10 pounds ( closed season I had to turn it loose) both caught from the Wisconsin River just below the Wisconsin Dell's dam in late march, we were fishing for walleyes at the time.

Your bad luck with the rods is heartbreaking. I have a horrible heartbreaking story, I'm honestly surprised I lived through. My dad had gotten a brand new rod and reel combo. I was about 12 or so at the time. My reel got messed up fishing for bluegill. I got the brilliant idea to then walk home and grab my dad's new rod and reel. He had a spinner bait on it, and I decided why not throw the spinner bait around. I got a couple of fish, but then I got a hold a monster strike, so big it scared me, and I loosened my grip just enough that fish took the rod out of my hand and into the lake. I had to walk home knowing that I was going in more trouble than I ever had been in. After my appointment my dad, I felt beyond horrible, didn't know that rod and reel cost a few hundred dollars. This was in 90's and still feel bad about.

Today I was bank fishing a new spot to me in NY State on the Delaware. I only carry and use two rods, but placement and path of walking in new areas can be disorienting. Long story short, ended up twisting my ankle after traversing 500yds of bread basket sized round river stones, and about 200 back when my ankle slipped into a crack and just gave out during the fall. While picking myself up (and my two rods in my hand) I was wondering if I had broken one or both before standing up. Both ugly stiks (medium heavy and ul). I'll ice my bruises, and be able to use the rods again, because they are rugged. (not sponsored)

@@marthamitchell9452 Yeah, I've tried 4+ other brands, and they all break quickly. I'm hard on my gear and sacrifice some extra weight and wrist wear. I'd like to know if there's something comparable to the clear tipped ugly stiks in that way.
