No the censorship of stellar blade was BOTH violence based in Japan AND censorship game disk cosmetic outfits (and hard r). In both cases it was censored as the day 1 patch nerfed the blood and multiple outfit designs. It was NOT just Japanese blood. I know you guys don't delve into dei based content and I understand why you don't but can you please not lie blatantly. Eventually shift up made some similarly appealing outfits at a later date but people do know that Japan has gore based restrictions.

Counterpoint: Crazy Taxi was a game that was immediate getting in, as much as it was getting out of it. Sit down, have a match or three, bunch of coins spent, then go do something else. Live service implies the game will push you to stay as much time as possible, while the reward system is structured to force you to come back as often as you can possibly can, otherwise you'll be missing out. It is the antithesis of what the original game was. I'm not saying this will *be* a bad game. But it's definitely something that might backfire spectacularly, Suicide Squad style. The core problem with live service is that they launch with a fraction of the intended content. If the game fails, you're automatically left with an unfinished product you gave money in advance for.
@kwoni3337
@kwoni3337 Ай бұрын
Yea, it really depends on the execution. Something being live service isn't inherently bad, but often the reason for it being live service can compromise the game. Another upcoming game like that is skate 4 or "skate". It has the potential to be good or bad depending on the execution of that live service model. We just have to wait and see.
@v-ia
@v-ia Ай бұрын
oh this WILL be a bad game and you explained perfectly why. don't be ashamed to admit that you know it better if you actually do
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade Ай бұрын
I think it's pretty clear that it's going to depend a lot on just how hard they push the live features. If it's mostly paying for the car equivalent of hats and a few cool, but not game breaking advantages, it could work. But, if they really push it, it'll likely blow up in their faces. The key to a good live service game is resisting the urge to push people too aggressively to paying more. The included base game does still need to be fun and engaging enough to pay for and install. I don't personally mind paying a bit if the payment isn't forced and results in a sufficient improvement to the experience.

Well, the thing is, remaking Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi means they can reuse those assets for the live service version, then add on to them. A kinda double dib use of assets. A thing that was somewhat common for series of games to get the most profit out of the work put in. It increases the overall profit per asset created. The effect is lowering the cost of making the live version. Example: Armored Core had like 3ish games going with a Armored Core #. It reused assets, multiple times allowing FromSoftware to profit far more than they would have if they had to do new assets every time.

As someone who played/plays PSO2 a SEGA MMO. i loved how the old director of the game ran it before Ep 4(even PSU and base PSO2) took over and went full monetization and NGS killed the player base. but knowing that it scary they think they can run another MMO or even try that.
@KiraSlith
@KiraSlith Ай бұрын
I bought a PS Vita for PSO2 because both Sony and Sega were hyping up the crossplay features, and by the time it dropped here in the USA after years of endlessly teasing us with the promise of PSO2 releasing "eventually", both PSO2es (the Vita app) and the Vita itself were discontinued. Couldn't even just play JP because that dipstick Broomop hacked the servers repeatedly and got all western countries blanket IP banned from the game for the first couple years. After all that, we finally got it just in time to experience real PSO2 for a year before they completely ruined it with NGS. Last I checked they still haven't fixed the graphics in the original PSO2 content, everything still has a layer of grease on it, and a large chunk of the story is gone now, you can't play Xion's story anymore.

You know what I think would be a fun idea? Make the crazy taxi Live reboot and Jet Set Live reboot share a world. Not in the metaphorical sense, the _literal_ sense. Have them both on the same servers in the same game worlds. Have, like, 20 taxis rushing around a map with 40 Jet-setters tricking all over the place. Include a feature that would allow the Jet-Set players to request taxi rides. Allow the taxi drivers to hire 'endorsement' gigs for the Jet-setters to pull tricks and post graffiti advertising for a specific taxi, where the taxi gets a payment bonus that could be bigger or smaller depending on how well the Jet-Setter does. There's _so much potential_ for interwoven asymmetric worlds here.

Honestly, for this to work you'd need to ressurect a bunch of games from that era and sell them as a package, with the goal of keeping people in that shared world rather than any individual game. Classic Arcade 'pick up/put down' could work as a service model if you realise that you need to build the entire arcade rather than a single cabinet. But games companies keep building cabinets, putting them places people have no reason to go then wondering why they lose money, or trying to build an arcade without games. You kind of need the whole package, and make an environment where people will drop a tenner to play for the afternoon without feeling ripped off.

Instead of seeing it as Sega trying to do a live service open world MMO like everyone else, I see it as Sega is going add some good old arcade fun back into the live service games, if you think about it, arcades are as live service you can get and Sega still considers itself an arcade company. This isn't even their first racing game that uses the unreal engine, they made Sega World Drivers Championship in 2018 which was UE4 for arcades only. There is a lot you can do with a Crazy Taxi mmo, players can take up different roles that all help make a city function and not just taxis: food delivery bikes, taxis, bus drivers, getaway cars, the cops, firetrucks etc.. some roles players work together to accomplish their objectives and some you will try to prevent others from completing their goals. Yes like GTA online but without the guns which will have it's appeal, especially in Japan where GTA online is not that popular and that the market that Sega really cares about the most. They can also add loads of mini games like they do in the Yakuza series but this time there is a multiplayer aspect to it. Think of the open world as some sort of Sega City Arcade with different districts that focus different gameplay aspects. I don't think you're giving the game a fair chance especially since we know so little about it, especially how the game will be monetized. You just have a narrative of "live service is evil", "live service sucks" etc... you want to pump out to get clicks. Your bias as a small, independent game studio really shows when it comes to news of AAA and live service games. I'm glad Sega is taking a risk, they were very prudent before relying on the Yakuza and Persona series which are very traditional

Personally I'm just happy that Sega is willing to make racing games again, also I wouldn't really be so sure than that Crazy Taxi MMO is gonna materialize into an actual game just yet, is quite obvious that they're very early in development at this point while their other revival projects are much further ahead. So there's a chance that the future of that project ends up being highly dependent on which games end up being successful, I could totally see it being cancelled if the other revivals don't sell well. Also they're currently in the process of picking which franchises get adapted into movies or shows after the massive hit that were the Sonic movies so who knows what IPs they're currently prioritizing.

If they don't make them digital exclusives, maybe golden axe, shinobi and streets of rage could be interesting.

For a second I thought you were gonna say MGR is getting a rerelease/remaster with unlocked FPS and 4k. xD This game is a goddamn classic and a high recommendation for everyone. Freaking TWITTER is a legitimate plot device in this game! xD It is SO good. :D

"How big does that niche need to be?" Big enough to hook the right amount of people who have both a gambling problem and more money than sense. Sounds like a high bar, a lot of titles have proven it is not.

I will play devil's advocate and say Crazy Taxi itself always had (well more so after the first game cause the LA map was fairly linear back and forth) fairly open world maps, you were just under a VERY short time limit. If any of Sega's franchises had the very weird potential of live service cosmetics-earning stuff, it kinda was Crazy Taxi. Not that I'm saying it should've been a live service because of course not, just that it's not the weirdest idea.

I'm a bit surprised that they'd be doing both a relatively orthodox modernization and a in-the-grimdark-future-of-crazy-taxi-there-is-only-battle-pass implementation of the same game. Not necessarily a bad idea; modern crazy taxi seems like one of those things where you'd actively need to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory to avoid seeing at least modest success; but one where you are basically setting yourself up for a zesty suit-duel between the remake team resenting the ongoing monetization guys for what they'll do to customer expectations around cost of entry; while the battle pass bros will be spitting nails if it turns out that the standalone game is a fairly popular nostalgia buy while their offering of GTA-without-guns fails to amount to much against GTA online. I would have expected them to go harder on the "our preferred monetization model is the natural, inevitable, and exclusive arrangement under which the franchise exists" strategy; not necessarily because it would go well(Hey there Arkham Knight; how's the lucrative live service revenue treating you?); but because the potential upside looks more attractive if your instincts don't really handle risk discounting properly.

It's the game that patented having a floating arrow pointing to your destination, which led to the creation of minimaps. And now it's back trying to copy the GTA business model...

What’s the end game in a Crazy Taxi MMO? How do they keep the gameplay loop fresh? I’m highly skeptical this game will actually be good. I think it was an okay game for an arcade, as a novelty, but playing it more than a few rounds is going to get really stale.

Correction: Simpsons Hit n Run was more GTA3 inspired, Simpsons Road Rage was the Crazy Taxi rip off.

Love how they only do Live Service cause folks keep buying it at the same profit as actual games because they never want to come up with original ideas, but at the same time its a bunch of CEOs gambling with people’s livelihood

Im a big arcade racing player, and in general driving games. So... I hate to say this but I'm kinda lookin forward to Crazy Taxi. This was revealed like 6 months or a year ago, but with no gameplay. This gameplay tells me they are atleast making it a fun driving game hopefully.

Companies stopped being creative, all they do was to bring back the past franchises added with modern touch and monitization. They are much more upfront now that they wanted cash.

NGL, Crazy Taxi is pretty damned fun even now. I’d love to see if they can redesign it for modern sensibilities, but it sounds like Sega thinks this is going to be way bigger than it even has the potential to be. This isn’t going to end well.
