Kinda proud of myself. I was looking for an entry level PC for my kids to start gaming on. Just low spec games like Minecraft. I found an old iBuyPower PC with an i7 860, GTX 770, 6GB of RAM, and a 512GB Sata SSD for $250. PLUS, a 27" 1080p TN monitor. Hey Greg dont know if youll see this but ive exhausted my resources at this point. When i switched on my PC a couple of days ago, i noticed my 2nd monitor wasnt getting any signal. Its connected via a DP (connected to 970) to HDMI (monitor). Its been like this for 2 months since I built the thing without any issues, this is the first time Ive encountered this. I unplugged the cable from both sides, reseated the GPU, nothing. I went over to a friends and tried to determine the issue by process of elimination. - Checked my cable with another GPUs DP port (1060), no issue - Checked my GPU with another DP to DP cable, no issues - My GPU in his system with MY cable (DP to HDMI), boom, no signal. So in short, my dp to hdmi cable works, as it works with other gpus. The gpu works as it sends signal with a dp to dp cable. Im confident i can rule out my sytem as the issue as my cable and gpu refused to post on 3 separate systems. If you have any clue id really appreciate it because i dont know how itd stop working out of the blue

I hate to break it to you but you’re going to have to pay those prices you’ve been seeing or you’re going to have to get really lucky. I just recently bought a 1080ti for $530 USD on EBay when they were selling for $700+. I know that’s still not cheap but it’s a hell of a deal these days for an older high end card. I got it because I was basically the only bidder so the starting price didn’t change much and the auction was ending. Talk about luck! Especially since 1080s in general are pretty sought after cards right now considering how well they still perform 4 years after launch. Anyways, I hope you understand that in today’s gpu market you’re going to have to fork over the extra money if you really want a gpu. That is unless you can get lucky. I know it’s really frustrating but that’s just how it is.

Some of those broken cards can be a great deal. I bought a "Broken" GTX 1080 EVGA FTW card last week for 250ish plus 10 shipping. 250 is probably about what the real market place would be for a 1080 outside of these inflated prices. Anyway. I read his description. Said Card boots up after about 10 min of game play fans ramp up to full and I lose signal to monitor and system shuts down. Soooo I had a 90 percent positive idea of what was wrong with the card. I purchased it took it a part, cleaned it and applied new Thermal Compound. The old compound was very dry. Put it all back together, ran it through several loops of Stress tests and it never got above 54 degrees and ran like a champ. Where previously after about 15 min of Cold War it shut down. and it shut down after 30 seconds of a stress test. So I think that was a pretty good deal. I would Def buy an RX 570 or 80 8gig for about 100 bucks if the description looked like something I could probably fix. Anyway So This 1080 I fixed is now being shipped to a friend of mine to replace his old video card. No Charge :) Figured might as well pass on my good fortune!

It took a minute for me to realize, but we wear the same glasses. I've built two 9700k-powered builds (to replace my X58 i7 990X and i7 980X builds), each to the tune of around $900 and spec'd way better (64GB DDR4 3200 each, 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe each, 1080Ti and a 980Ti). I got lucky on one of the motherboards, getting it as a new-open box item for $170. Same board is selling for $350+ used now. Also, since my old cards just go in the spare parts bin I've been digging out some real gems since the scalp-ocalypse started, like my $1.99 thrift-store find Asus 660Ti, $35 ebay win Asus 750Ti, $100 Strix R9 380 OC (eBay) and that $150 EVGA 980Ti SC2 (also eBay) that got used in the SFF build ITX Z390. The 1080Ti was originally a $450 EVGA FTW3 card that I then sold for $525 to buy an ROG Poseidon Platinum 1080Ti mis-listed as a Strix model for $550. The cheapest Poseidon at that time was $750. Those cards are going for $1k+ now. It's ridiculous.

Can tell me why no one will buy my rig for 700 bucks?! These are older components but extremely high quality. I took them out of the older Thermaltake case and replaced it with a very cool Asus Gundam Zaku II case w/RGB fans. Also bought a new power supply and Coolermaster Hyper EVO 212 air cooler. I have had everything checked out by Geek Squad just to make sure everything is 100%. Yes, it is fast. And yes, it will play Fortnite. 1080p at ultra settings. I was incredibly fortunate when I got my 1660ti last year. I paid around $350 for it (which was already probably about $50 too high) at Best Buy. Two weeks later I started seeing the exact same card selling on eBay for around $800… yeah I’m totally happy sticking with that card for a while. I’ll get a 30 series at some point, but I’m in absolutely no rush. I’m much more interested in transitioning my four terabytes of 3.5” hard drive storage to a single 4 terabyte M.2. Which won’t be cheap, but I REALLY want to ditch the hard drive cage in my Corsair 220T case.

In my opinion is that getting a gaming laptop, especially if you're a student is not actually a bad choice right now. You can just buy your peripherals for your setup if you want too or you can just play it on your laptop. Just make sure you keep an eye on the temps when you are playing, get a good cooling pad for it.

So I am thinking of selling my backup desktop. what I have is as follows.. Ryzen 7 2700X, Gigabyte gaming 7 wifi 50th anniversary addition, 32gb Corsair vengeance Pro RGB @ 3600 MGHZ, Corsair H115i ICUE, Samsun 970 plus 500gb NVME, Crucial MX500 500GB, Seasonic focus 850 gold plus, custom extended cables and the Be-quite 802 silent case set up inverted , and these days the crown jewel. Gigabyte RX 5700XT OC. Fresh install of windows 10 with key. What do you think is a fair asking price?

Built my first rig last September with nearly identical specs as the last ad (not including monitor, peripherals, etc) for a little under $1000 USD.. Even considering today's graphics card market and all the extra stuff they're throwing in, I still think it's about $400-$500 overpriced, and that's being a bit generous.

@@jaimeacosta9062 For used computers it's getting a lot better. I've seen some pretty decent gaming PCs on Facebook. The higher end stuff is pricey. But on the budget side it's okay. And prices are dropping all the time.

It pisses me off how some of the sellers will want 50 to 200 bucks for shipping, considering the already overpriced price for the card by itself shipping aside, I guess robbing a person for every dime and penny is a honest noble thing.
