He truly doesn't. He's a tech youtuber, not a charity act. Major props for him to do this shit basically free of charge. And besides that, he still gave him a quality 16gb kit of ram. WTF do people want more. Seriously, people are growing so ungrateful nowadays that everything is literally at their palm of their hands immediately. Or because they see their fav ytuber/streamer having decent rigs they think they are owed to have one too. It's not how real life work people. Work hard and spend your hard earned money on whatever you see fit. Don't expect for people to give you shit for free. It's not how the real world works sadly.

Sorry you even have to explain having to replace parts in these systems. The fact that your taking on these JOBS and doing what you do is amazing. I truly respect the time and hard work you've put into these playlists. (To those complaining: Stop and realize what your average pc repair shop would charge you..) @gilles111

The repair shop would charge you for every screw and backplate they add and every minute they spend (and that's the way how they make their living). Plus they won't give new & extra RAM for free, a new SATA cable to connect the harddrive, wouldn't take the time to reroute the cables or clean the system. So Greg did a great job just in exchange for the possibility to make a video about it (which he had to shoot and edit all by himself).

I would have done that long before I started trying to boot from a flash drive and before I started removing anything extra like that wifi card.

He didn't troubleshoot a single thing... he replaced a ram kit and called it a day. No tests, no stability or frametime tests, nothing at all. Talks about drivers but doesn't check the bios firmware. Sorry but this is kind of a fail, it's not about him adding "better" or "newer" hardware, its about the troubleshooting and in my opinion he hasn't done any of it. The legs on the case was also a lazy "solution"(the proverbial icing on the shitty cake).

Lovely video but you did have the solid idea of taking a control of the initial performance which you forgot about when you got it to post. You're now resting on the assumption that adding the ram is solving the issue. That may very well be true but without benchmarks we don't know. There still could be an issue with the pc performing under hardware. Still, you are being incredibly generous giving this labor and hardware and it's very likely that you did solve the issue. Just, you had the right idea when you started but got distracted after the issue with the ram. In all likelihood his pc is performing worse because he's playing more modern games but without the before and after we just don't know. That said, I'm a huge fan of your channel and please keep up the great work.
@GregSalazar
@GregSalazar 3 жыл бұрын
The more relevant issue at hand quickly became the posting error we were encountering. Once it was hashed out, the only remaining things I could do were to check drivers (chipset, graphics, etc.) and update the obvious RAM capacity culprit. That said, the viewer informed that his other issue was "low FPS" and "stuttering" in general. This, obviously, depends on many factors - including the graphics card, which I wasn't gonna replace - but I got the feeling he was expecting more out of his hardware than it was capable of giving. I used my best judgement to solve the obvious system memory bottleneck and rule out potential driver issues without endlessly chasing down software rabbit holes.

@@GregSalazar Oh, don't get me wrong, you did great. Nice logical, scientific approach to problem solving with solid expertise. And I strongly suspect you're spot on, the hardware just wasn't up to the task. But... You said at the beginning you thought it was a good idea of take an initial benchmark as a control. This was very, very sensible and I totally agree. Once it posted, you could have done this at that stage. Then you add the new ram (please don't feel you have to do this, it's a lot of money), set the frequency, do all the sorting and you have a before and after. You would have been well within your rights to post a very entertaining video concluding that the "issue" was that the pc was old, underpowered and modern games demand more. I'm only suggesting you do what you yourself suggested, take a control measurement. Absolutely, do not spend any more money than you did, I entirely understand the point of the series and please don't feel obliged to spend money like that. I know you're a nice guy but you have a very entertaining video regardless and the lesson that sometimes the "technical fault" is just a lack of hardware is informative. Anyway, I'm very grateful to you for a thoroughly entertaining vid.

great idea with testing the frametime issue as well btw! also, I'm thinking the issues this viewer had might already have been due to the one stick not quite making proper contact, and then on the way to your home it probably got so bad it couldn't even properly register it anymore.

Software tips for future vids like this that take very little time: -Taking just a few minutes, you can open an administrative CMD prompt, run DISM, then run SFC, and it will repair any corruption to system files that could be affecting performance. Sometimes it can't repair everything, but SFC tells you when that happens. At that point, it's almost always best to jump right to a clean install if data loss isn't a concern. -Check their startup programs and disable anything they obviously don't need. I've had friends complain about performance falling below expectations, and when I get a look at their system, they've got Steam, Origin, BattleNet, Epic, Spotify, Discord, G-hub, Synapse, iCue, Dragon Center, CAM, and countless other unnecessary programs all launching at startup and running in the background constantly. Makes a big difference, especially for a system with limited RAM capacity. Thanks for another great video and for helping this PC's owner out!

I really appreciate how you walk through your thought process while troubleshooting instead of just outright upgrading things. I want to learn what to do if I run into issues with my builds, so I can make everything last as long as possible, not be told to just "buy a new xxx" whenever there is an issue. I want to learn how to isolate the issue, fix anything that can be fixed, and THEN replace if need be.

LPT: HellMart sells rubber feet with the pre-applied 3M adhesive backers. That's a quick fix if you start loosing the adhesive pads on some cases. I had one case that was missing a chunk of rubber foot and I ended up using a black foam block used to protect windshields in transit and carving it into shape with an x-acto knife and smoothed it with sandpaper and using the existing adhesive and the weight of the case to sandwich everything back together. No more irritating wobble.

I agree Greg, the wifi card next to the graphics card wasn't a great idea, certainly can't help with gpu temps. The memory stick more than likely what was causing his random frame rate jumps. have seen many many times memory sticks that have gone wonky that have caused instability issues, freezing issues, and general performance issues. Sometimes I have just wiggled gently on a memory stick, and I made a system freeze right up!! You solved the memory issue by outright replacing it. Awesome job!!
