Not all shoujo romances are good. In fact most of them are pretty bad because they try to make the male mc too pretty and perfect which results in them being boring af. Not to mention, 90% of the shoujo rom com have reverse harem which is just as bad as your average harem show, if not worse. And the final nail in the coffin is....the female mc has the most bland, indecisive personality with a touch of save me tendency. She ain't even that attractive man, idk why the male mc is doing such efforts to go after her. Out of all the shoujo animes I've watched, there's only a handful of them which can be considered decent. The best one I've ever watched is probably the apothecary dairies, only because the female mc is such a delight to watch. Fruits basket is another great shoujo romance series, but that's about it. The rest of shoujo romance series are such snoozefests purely because of the garbage main characters. Thus shoujo is not popular and therefore, shounen romcom>>>>>>>>>>shoujo garbage

Honestly if you want good romance you have to forget shounen and shoujo. You need seinen and josei series. One of my favorite josei romcom Manga that got an anime is Wotakoi. But in general that's where are the adult romance is. Shounen and shoujo high-school romance is hardly ever going to be very good. Maybe a small handful here and there and that's it.

If you want good and mature romance, then read BLUE BOX. Its really good. But my fav is RELIFE. This romance manga is just peak. Anime doesnt do it justice at all. And best thing? Its colored manga and gives the manhwa feels.

to be fair, going by later scenes seems the girl is just an airhead who likes to play too much and doesn't really mean it at all, seeing how she actually seems to like (for real) another teenager and she acts different with him and she also joked about marrying grandma at some point... to me it just looks like airhead teenager joking around and nothing else. the mother who is the wife of the son of the couple tho? yeah, kinda weird.

You say the grandma was making a clueless dummy face but it really wasn't lol. That face is what I call the smiling terror of anime girls. It's when in anime some characters would fake a smile due to irritation. The key things to look for are closed eyes, serene smile and having them face the object of said irritation. Some animes make it pretty obvious but there are some that try to hide it like in this one. Grandma knows exactly what her granddaughter was saying, it's just that she'd rather not do anything about it because grandkid lol. Grampa also got a smack from her in the very next scene lol. Well from what I read so far in the mangga the old couple don't really have and changes in their relationship.....it's already at max lol. So the whole incest thing remains a joke instead.
