My biggest takeaway from this is they make no sense about not matching advertiser wants. They are literally IDEAL for them. MoistCritical covered that in his followup. Either way, as a longtime fan of them, I'm good staying unsubbed. Maybe they should learn nepotism makes for awkward firing of people and reduce their ranks to make things more affordable lol.

they only apologize because i think no one is subscribing to the platform, if many people did subscribe to their website, they wont care about the backlash and there will be no apology

Exactly they only reason they changed so fast is cause they probably didn’t get as many subs as they thought and were like oh crap we’re about to lose everything

I don’t see them the same way anymore and thus I will not watch their videos anymore. Because they just showed their true face. I appreciate that they apologized but this doesn’t change the way I think about them. Greedy, arrogant and ignorant.

They back tracked so fast and apologized, at least they were able to see their mess up and didn’t double down. They probably saw the abysmal subs and all the hate and tired to fix it as fast as possible to stop people from unsubscribing

Hopefully they learned a lesson and other KZbin’s take notes from their mistakes, if this would have been even remotely successful for them, you know other KZbinrs would have followed in their steps

To me, they come off as genuine. They clearly listened to the main points of criticism, apologized straightforward without getting defensive, and offered a middle ground that everyone can be satisfied with. Their biggest hurdle now will be earning back all the trust they lost. I’m willing to forgive, but I don’t think I’ll be quick to forget

I followed them from Buzzfeed and had watched every video including Steven's stuff. So I'm having a hard time deciding if I really want to support them again. I had unsubscribed them when that first video came out. They had 2.88M and drop to 2.83M and now it's 2.84M so they did get some people back. I wonder what their tour in the UK will be like 🤔.

I completely forgot about the UK tour, hopefully getting to see their community face to face and people still holding them accountable will help something like this never happen again, and shows other creates that we will stop supporting them

I really enjoyed Shane and Ryan prior to this. Unsolved Supernatural and Ghost Files was my jam, but there's other creators out there that deliver that same kind of fun supernatural experience.

Yes, this is literally their job? Of course they are thinking about money 😭 doesn't mean they haven't given us quality content. I'm not american and whenever there's a controversy with a celebrity or internet personality, i swear 85% of the time it's americans exaggerating.

@lorenduh I'm not sure if I would even say that I need to forgive them. I just get second-hand embarrassment every time I see them. It kind of sucks the enjoyment out of watching their videos.

I am glad they did this because it shows they listen. I will not be subscribing. I think that even though the apology is genuine that it will come down to needing people to still sign up and if they don't get that what happens then? they don't seem to have any contingency other than stop hemorrhaging subscribers. I will however keep an eye on the content and if they make a new show I like, I will reconsider then. Thanks for the update on this!

No problem!! And I feel the same way, I will continue to watch content but this will always be in the back of my mind. I am glad we were able to combat it as a community and show them that using their community just for money was a horrible and detrimental idea. They will still have a strong loyal audience but us more casual viewers will never forget.

i dont know these youtubers since your first video about them and how they wanted their fans to pay money to watch their videos. but its good they did this saying they are sorry and such but again not a fan when youtubers pull this kind of crap on their fans. the backlash they are getting will soon die down like most do in the end and hope they learn something from this not to be a greedy butthole lol

I’ve always loved their ghost files series cause I love the paranormal but them pulling this on us to then back track so fast is just crazy to me. It hurts as a fan cause I’ve followed them since buzzfeed which a lot of us have and some have grown up with theses guys

I cannot make an informed statement without first knowing my own bias; Shane and I are from the same hometown in northwestern Illinois. I'm much older than he is; we have never met in person. That having been said, his talents as a musician and a puppeteer are undeniable. Business sense? Maybe not so much, but all three of them are trying to fix things. However, I also realize that mistakes were made, and the apology could have been less tone-deaf

Idk any of these guys but imo people do mistakes and that's what they did. Ofc they're only sorry bc of the backlash, bc they didn't understand just how bad this idea was, but now they know. It's completely fine if you think they're shady bc it is an icky situation but I also genuinely believe that they truly do feel remorse. Sometimes you need a wake up call to figure out your mistake and the consequences. It's not being greedy and only do this to save face, it's literally just their mistake dawning in on them which caused them to adapt accordingly and morally.

I'm guessing that while it's not ONLY greed and their ego that lead them to this mistake, I'm sure it was a pretty big part of it. I wonder IF they have said "Sorry guys, you were right. Because we made a good amount of money and wanted more, we got greedy, AND we were on a huge ego trip for sure." would the reaction be positive??? Overall, I accept this apology. Whether they are really sorry or not really doesn't matter to me, the point is that they did the right thing. After all, if you were as young as the guys and made that much money, I bet a lot of us will get a bit greedy at one point.

I haven’t actually liked them as much since they left buzzfeed (I’ve only consistently watched top five beat down) and I’ve never really liked Steven Lim. The apology is fine, but talking about hurting for money and not wanting to fire employees feels manipulative. I might watch them from time to time. But ehh.
