Check out Average White Band (AWB) appearances on Soul Train. "Cut The Cake", "Person to Person" " Queen of My Soul" "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" or "School Boy Crush" The singer with the beard, Alan Gorie continues to lead AWB and they have about 30 albums from the 70's up to the present. The high voice singer, Hamish Stuart left AWB in '82 to join Paul McCartney's band. He currently leads the other half of the original AWB and calls them 360°. They are from Scotland and before starting AWB they were the backup band for American soul singers touring Europe. They often backed Ben E. King and feature him on an album. There are many acts that might be considered "cultural appropriation" but AWB has always been innovators in "Black" funk music, rather than copycats.
@michaelxren66732 жыл бұрын
AWB was named by a female singer /Bonnie Bramlett, when she first heard them, she said they sounded more like a soul band than an average white band. Hamish Stuart is the one with that great soulful voice. Another great song by him, after he left the group, He formed another group including the drummer Steve Ferrone from AWB, The group was called, Easy Pieces, and the song: Tuggin at my Heartstring. You guys should check out that sound and play it.

The reaction of both of you at the exact same time was priceless. It was so funny how you both knew that the name did not represent the band. “Average “, “what you talking bout Willis”, “ ain’t nothing average about these guys”. Are you kidding me, “ don’t judge a book....”. Absolutely priceless. Both lead singers are good and they complement each other perfectly. When the band was put together back in the 70’s, in Scotland, they knew they had something and they soared well into the 1980’s. Check out their “Soul Searching”, “ Shine”, “Feel No Fret”, “Benny & Us” albums just to name a few.
