As a response to your comments about not being able to get a sense of their talents because they were playing characters, I'd just have a couple comments. First, singing accurately on pitch as they did while in character voice is actually harder than just singing, so they do still have some talent there too. But watch it again and listen more to what's subtly going on in the background. There are some fantastically difficult vocal arpeggios and other things happening to give the song its foundation that you don't really even notice when you're listening to the primary vocals. Those undertones are not done in character voice, and you can still get a lot of their talent from that.

No offense meant, but the song IS from a musical featuring human & non characters, so I am a bit surprised at your distraction at them singing in the character voices; It IS an integral part of the song itself & it's MUCH more difficult & demonstrates considerable vocal talent to sing in character as well. LOL! Yes, Geoff Castellucci's last E1 note is incredibly impressive. Seeing as how it just dropped a few hours ago & you specifically mention you doing it yourself at 01:45, here's a Halloween Treat for all: VoicePlay - Kidnap the Sandy Claws | Nightmare Before Christmas | (Acapella cover) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmm2hYavYrhoi6M

Don't worry too much about clashing "fandoms" between PTX, Home Free, and VoicePlay - a whole lot of them like all three groups. There's almost never bad blood between the groups, and there's tons of overlap among the fans.
@cassandrahepp64454 жыл бұрын
There are even overlaps in the groups themselves. Like Homefree having Avi on their "Ring of Fire" cover for example.
@MagnetMagicGirl3 жыл бұрын
This is so true!! I honestly want a mashup of all three groups. So much talent in one song??? PLEASE!!!
@jackyfriedman19632 жыл бұрын
Agree. Home Free and Voiceplay were on the 4th season of Sing Off together and became fast friends. Tim Foust taught Geoff Castellucci how to do the super low notes. He even was one of the singers in Voiceplay Just Sing video. Rob Lunquist did the Movie Medley with Voiceplay. There's a video called Voiceplay vs Home Free - Zombies vs Hillbillies. Voiceplay are called the "Theater Kids" because of their theatrics. Most people love them not only for their voice but because of them dressing up. Hence their name Voice Play. The we guys are in Orlando Florida. Before forming the group they all worked in either Disney World or Universal Studios as characters in shows.

Watch “Can’t help falling in love” also by voiceplay. In the beginning it’s slow and a bit boring, but it develops into the most beautiful thing you will ever hear!!
@antimatterexplodes40144 жыл бұрын
Luckily for you, Pentaholics tend to also be home fries and voice players! In my humble opinion, the character voices they did shows their talent even more than playing the songs "straight." Their aca top10s are great, queen in 5 minutes, Moana, the little mermaid, are all fantastic. But if you're in the mood for more serious, Geoff Castalucci singing blackbird by the Beatles is the most amazing use of the human voice I've ever witnessed.

No issue with liking Home Free or Pentatonix as well. A lot of the fans listen to all three. Good music is good music.

Daddy Sang Bass is an often overlooked gem. They do a lot of theatrical songs so singing in character goes along with that. Listen again to the support they give to Geoff in the background of this song. I think you shortchanged them.
@jackyfriedman19632 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. In the end you get to see their families. I agree on the medlies. Everyone gets a part so they show everyone talents.
@louf10254 жыл бұрын
I personally loved this one for the theatrics of it (not to mention Geoff’s insane range) and their complex rhythmic harmonies and arpeggios in the background. But VP has so many talents, and they do so much variety from “Can’t help falling in love” which is very straight, to Disney medleys. I’m a big fan of their cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Warriors” and their recent cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”. They even do some country stuff like “Daddy Sang Bass”. So check them out. Dare I say, I like them more than PTX because of how diverse their music is.

I don't really think their Halloween themed stuff is meant to be emotional 🤔 you may want to check out their covers of Bridge Over Troubled Water and Can't Help Falling in Love for that. They are the most theatrical of the big 3, so they do play around a bit more.

A lot of Voiceplay's material (and Geoff's solo material) is covers of stuff where theatrics and costumes add to the effect. But if you want to hear just the group's normal voices, with everyone getting a turn at soloing, check "Can't Help Falling In Love."
@DarkEmpress864 жыл бұрын
To get a better idea of their vocal talents without the character voices, try watching "Can't Help Falling in Love," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes," "Queen in 5 Minutes," or "The Little Mermaid Medley" to start 😊 They're more theatrical and whimsical than PTX and Home Free, which is a big part of why I personally love them so much, but they have a serious and emotional side as well. I look forward to seeing more VoicePlay reactions from you in the future, hopefully 🙂 Also, their bass, Geoff Castellucci, has a few solo covers on his channel that are fantastic if you're interested in checking them out.

This was doone to be true to the original, do not make the false assumption that all of their performances are in character, though some are which makes them more talented. Don't confuse their fun and creativity with lack of talent. Lighten up, it is a fun Halloween video, you knew the movie, songs, voices and personalities of the movie characters already, what were you expecting? Did you think Oogie Boogie was somehow going to turn into a romantic love ballad or a prince?

Although I have my favorite such groups, I do love them all - including this one! All of these people are so talented! Another by this group you might like is called something like "Queen in 5 Minutes". I have noticed, like you, that this group doesn't just stand or sit there and sing - they act it out, get in character and generally make it an event! Great reaction! Thanks!

They did do another cover of the Nightmare Before Christmas. Several actually. One is “This is Halloween” and Another is “Kidnap Mr Sandy Clause”. Sorry Shay, I'm the opposite. Listening to the singers in a theatrical performance adds to the experience and contexts of the music. If they are just singing... well, I can listen to the CD, LP, cassette, mp3, whatever at home at my leisure. Not the same (that, I will grant you).
