What's incredible is Price would of likely won both games that is how good he was. Hopefully Fowler is our future top goalie.

Price masked the mediocrity to such a high degree. His retirement somewhat coincided with my permanent move to South Florida. I’ve fallen in love with the Panthers. They are exactly the kind of team I’ve wanted to root for all along. Skilled, gritty and a fuck you attitude that is unmatched. Not to mention, they score a shit ton of goals and are just so entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, I do not see Montreal ever getting there. The kind of players that chose to play in FLA, will never choose Montreal. Truth hurts.

@lauigКүн бұрын
Yes, and Hagens has the 2 best linemates in all NCAA in Perreault & Leonard and a real good defense backed by Fowler. Don't get me wrong his passing/playmaking is totally elite but at least a good chunk of his points comes from the mastery of these two wonderkids.What Hage is doing carrying his line is more impressive to me. Both have a lot to improve defensively though, so i wouldn't expect Hage to join as soon as next season, might be best let him grow with this very good Uni of Michigan program for the full extent of these 2 years.

I think it was Hockey Psychology that covered it in one of his videos? St Louis has come and said that he wants the Habs to start playing systems like the Panthers and other contenders, so they're ready to be on the right track when they finally develop fully. I put no blame whatsoever on him for the way they're playing honestly, they're just learning. Last year when they looked exciting they were playing a more 'free' style of hockey, and this year they're being asked to switch it up.

Its been hard, remembering the Patrick Roy posters on my wall, to watching Montembeault and Primeau... struggle. I shouldn't criticize professional hockey players, at their worst they have skills I could barely dream of, but lately I've been seeing a team that needs some work on fundamentals, especially in front of their own net.
@timkitchen6922 күн бұрын
Management has shown they have no interest in trying to compete even though they said they wanted to at the start of the year. The concept that Primeau isn't gone when it is almost guaranteed 2 soft goals against every night is proof of that. They don't have the talent to compete night in night out with ECHL goaltending which is the best Primeau can give you. The don't do something soon they will slow Montembeault's progress as well knowing he has no pressure or challenger for the #1 job. Primeau isn't even the 4th string goalie in the depth chart and at some point something has to give.

We have to mention the 2 very important pieces who got injured before the start of the season which spilled a massive cup of coffee all over the plans. (Sorry this gonna be a long comment) Number 1 is Laine, such a steady solid presence, even if he only performs at the level he's had in his later Colombus shifts, it's already a massive way to keep the puck in the o-zone, mobilize Ds etc which leads to tighter games. The second and, contrary to what many non-habs fans may think, THE most severe hinderance to the season is the year long absence of David Reinbacher. That kid is soo soo good defensively against any type of opposition (without even needing to be extra physical) he was getting real close to making the team right out of camp, pretty sure he wouldn't have spend much more than a month or so with Laval. Plus had he not been this close to being ready for the NHL when he joined Laval end of last season maybe Kovacevic wouldn't have been traded out so soon and David not being able to join now forces the team to play a D wether it's Guhle, Matheson or Struble on their weaker off-hand side every single night. This team is lacking one more super solid Right-handed D and they're hesitant to get one because Mailloux is still developping well with the Rocket (although still going through a few growing pains here and there) And then there's Primeau, we all thought he could do better. He can't. It seems the game's too fast for him. Next season, if not sooner, Dobes will back up Montembeault and it will be a clear improvement while Fowler, Miller (yet another real-sad long-term injury), Vecvanags, Volokhin etc keep honing their skills. You touched on Dach, some nights we see glimpses, it's getting there but it sure is a much slower and tremendously more frustrating process than anticipated.
@lauigКүн бұрын
Lastly, there's some real strong positives I'll only highlight the one which is the most surprising after his shaky start, it's Arber Xhekaj as he's massively turned things around. In some games albeit in a slightly different role i'd dare say he played (much) better than Guhle although Kaiden's finally back to his favored left side.

I'll panic if we are still struggling in 5 years. For the time being, we are nowhere near where we need to be to have a solid core, our Ds are too young, we only have 1 good goalie and the next ones are also too young. Last but not least, our second line center is either a struggling Dach who might fit better on the wing, Jake Evans who is at best a 3rd, most likely a 4th line center and Christian ''I win face-offs for 4,5 millions/year'' Dvorak. This team was always going to suck this year (and they will next year too). We need to keep drafting high, and after that, go to free agency. People have no patience in Mtl and as another commenter said, there are too many teams with stars in their prime in our division to have a chance right now. Time is on our side, we need to avoid the Bergevin's quick fixes like the bubonic plague.

5… years ? Including the multiple seasons before this? So you’re okay with a rebuild taking nearly a decade before you start being concerned?
@sukoimigКүн бұрын
@@Nimajneb42069 Realistically, the rebuild began in 2022. The habs have been trash since the last cup in 1993, and even then they weren't anywhere close to being a powerhouse, big teams failing helped us win in 93. A big rebuild takes time, and has been badly needed. If, starting in 2027 we are not on a steep upper trajectory, we will have failed, but at least we tried. We have been mediocre at best, garbage at worst for decades. Rebuilding though the draft is long, painful, but necessary, the habs have never done that in my life and I'm passed 40. Free agency is not the solution for a canadian team, we are not an american team in the south with no taxes and way less media/fan pressure, so it's hard to attract stars.

There are just so many issues but at the same time, it feels like those issues can go away as soon as next year. Yeah they're playing awful this year and some guy's development paths are on the line but this just seems like a warmup year. With Dach losing a year, Reinbacher losing close to a year, Laine not playing much in the last 3 years, I mean, what do we want from them? Our vets were supposed to step up but they're just so bad. Goaltending can't steal games like they did last year and yes, there are some serious coaching flaws with Marty. Again though, what can they really do? The young guns in Laval need to develop down there, Dach needs time, Slaf needs linemates and again our vets are just tanking the team until they get traded. Can't rush anything right now. Yeah it's not pretty but real fans should have been prepared for that

Let the boys pay out the year and figure there game together. We got a huge cap space next year and could potentially bring in something interesting. Were the youngest rostered team in the league. Msl may not be the number one coach but they could potentially bring in someone else and let him take the assistant role cause his development with players is elite. I think this years a loss with players figuring out their strides ( dach, newhook, laine ) but next year will be the year too look at.

Why I am happy with the Calgary rebuild. They are fairly consistantly competative in all but 3 blow out losses (others where close or ot). Older guys sticking around to mentor the young uns, a clear franchise player in Dustin Wolf 🐺 and now a huuuuuge amount of cap space to use. Much more fun to see the potential than the dire hell of san jose
@Daiinkeh2 күн бұрын
As a flames fan I am not excited about this team right now. They are refusing to accept the rebuild because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you cut it, a rebuild means actually losing. The way we are going as of rn is being mid. Winning 4 in a row then losing 4 in a row. That is the worst possible situation you can be as a team. Being too bad to win but being too good to draft high. I hope we can actually “rebuild” and start losing games. The only thing I agree with what I assume you mean is I hope the losses are competitive and not blownouts. But at the end of the day I would rather have the latter than close wins and/or extra regulation losses. Those are the death by a 1000 paper cuts that will continue making this franchise be mid after. Especially since if we don’t fully commit to tanking/rebuild we will lose a great draft pick to Montreal.

I think as a habs fan, its just time to take a breath. What were the legitimate expectations coming into the season? I agree I expected some excitement and we're getting that in spurts. But primarily its inconsistency and defensive struggles, which is par for the course with a young team. I've been pretty fine with letting St. Louis have some slack, but you bring up a good point, and in thinking, would another coach get more from these guys? Perhaps, to probably. But thats just a feeling. Habs also have a pretty poor recent history with hiring and firing coaches too quickly and then having 3 on the payroll simultaneously. So maybe give it half the season and re-evaluate.

I know they have Suzuki, caufield, slafkovsky, hutson but when you are also in the same division as matthews, marner, kucherov, hedman,barkov, tkachuk, pastrnak all either in there primes or playing elite still, it just make things harder to take that next stop. It also alot more harder to gain in standings when you do a full rebuild when there are teams like the capitals for example that did a retool on the fly.

I like Suzuki and slafkovsky but there are not even on the same level as Nylander as of right now and alot of people don't consider Nylander elite. In order to be elite, you need to be consistent. Pairing offensive dmen with each other and stay at home defencemen with each other. Lines with 3 bigger guys and other lines with 3 small guys together. Playing Hutson waaaaay too much and not "spotting" him in spots to allow him to succeed. Stripping Xhekaj's aura/image has been mismanaged.Might be time to get a pro coach in there.
