Don't throw those buttons away, they will end up in landfill for hundreds of years and end up polluting the oceans and what not. Just put them in to bags and give them away to people, fans will appreciate them regardless of how 'bad' or defective they are. Also, it's February, time to take the Christmas tree down lol

The tree is Christian's job, lol! I took down everything else. I knew there would be a slew of comments saying "nOooOOooo just give them away!" but people at the table will ask why they're cheap/defective, and I don't want to say "Oh they got rusty" because normally they don't. Who would buy my nice ones when I have sacs of rusted ones? They'll think my buttons rust quickly. I've had buttons in my stock for 7+ years that never rusted, and now after going to San Antonio, they've all rusted, old ones and new. And I don't want to tell the whole story to each person who asks. Even if people take them, they'll end up in a landfill eventually.

I think a lot of people who are commenting to not throw away the buttons. Don't understand that you can't sell or give away a rusty product since it's not only a health hazard but a liability since rust can cause tetanus. Hope you get better soon! Coughing fits are always one of the worst parts of being sick.

Rust doesn't cause tetanus, it just has more places to harbor tetanus. You can get it from clean looking metal.

Baylee make cheap grab bags and sell them either at a convention or in the storenvy shop. you can make your money back. People will take them off your hands since it's like a gatcha and people like goodies.

I thought so too but recent update from Baylee is that she is concerned about how it represents her since the rust might poorly represent the quality of her products. I haven't had something rust on me in mass. Normally I give out test or retired designs as extras. I just feel bad that so many buttons are getting dumped but I get it.

I've seen clay artists sell misfires at reduced prices. But the buttons aren't even an issue with her art, like off color or a printing error. It's more like they aged prematurely. Dunno, I'm the type to buy irregular stuff for the discount anyhow!

Honestly though, it isnt really an image problem if its sold and clearly advertised as faulty and discounted. I suppose somebody could try to use it against her or shine it in a negative light but if enough people know about it, it shouldn't be a giant issue.

You could do Grab bags of the buttons for clearance sale, maybe? I'm sure a lot of people would not mind so much the rust if they were at a "sold as is" discount price, and it's better than trashing the lot of them. I have a file of some prints that were a tiny bit bent during the print process that I want to just sell as discounted "misprint"pieces, myself.

There is Recycling for the Buttons! So sorry 😐 about the Rusting. You need to look into desiccant packs. They put them in medicine jars to keep the medicine from spoiling. I live in ontario and the same thing happens to my buttons! So i don't think it was the humidity, every button I've made and every button I've bought has done that over time. I have no idea why it happens but it really sucks! Love your con prep vlogs!

hammie-bunny if you're talking about tetanus, rust doesn't cause it, it just has more surface area which means more places to hold tetanus. You can get it from clean looking metal too. Rust isn't dangerous.

I have rusted buttons. It doesn't bother me and I would take some off your hands as well as others. I have a button collection from plenty of artists and some rust from water, some from accidental condiment spillage, and some don't rust. It happens and you should give away with a small printed note or just sell with that note. Don't worry :)

In regard to the buttons. Have you ever thought about instead of making so many to just make a few samples and create them at the con when someone asks for it. I know the button press and pieces are heavy, but I went to a con where they were doing that. They had them locked and displayed and I chose which one I wanted...they had the sheets with them and just cut them out. It would save you making so many buttons if they all don't sell....just an idea....thanks.

Sell the defect buttons online in a discounted mystery pack ,but with a disclaimer that the humid weather has rusted them slightly and that it never happens unless in a humid climate. That way fans get badges, they know it’s a one off situation, and you still make some money or even donate proceeds to a charity ☺️

I agree with the masses this time, as far as not throwing the button pins out; you'd probably have to add a disclaimer, so if it were the pin itself that rusted you aren't liable for anyone who doesn't have a tetanus shot, so if they poke themselves and get lock jaw, it isn't your fault. Not sure if anyone added this advice: Perhaps you could throw in a few of the silica packs that come in new bags/purses/shoes/etc when you store your buttons to keep the moisture out. Sad to see all that work spoiled. Good luck in all your prep-work this week for the convention!

You don't need to have fanart to sell at conventions, just something that people can relate to! Cute animals, gemstones/crystals and succulents are really popular right now. Anything to do with the zodiac is always good as well. I've seen some really cute stuff done with food too - like mixing animals with food (the sushi dogs for example). =]
