@@Cloeyonty It's not, but to JWs (or more accurately, the governing body) they feel like college will make people not want to be apart of the org anymore. They like to say it's because of Satan's influences and temptations, but in reality it just gives people opportunities to build meaningful relationships with people different from them (including "worldly" non-JWs who they soon realize aren't evil pawns of Satan), critical thinking skills, distance from JW influences or manipulation (assuming they move away for college), and a path to financial stability via a degree. It's a nightmare combination if you're a cult trying to keep your followers scared of the outside world and dependent on you. The entire religion is built on fear and emotional blackmail (disobey our rules and we'll take everything from you via disfellowship), so if someone builds a life for themself outside of the org those threats no longer hold any weight because people will just leave on their own. And when people leave, Watchtower loses power and money (from all those donations and free labor). So they choose to demonize education as a horrible thing and say Satan uses it to lead you astray, how if you do choose to pursue higher education you must remain vigilant of all those evil "worldly" people who try to influence you. It's just a classic fearmongering tactic used by cults to prevent people from learning the truth about them.

I remember being very moved by this little video the first time i saw it at age 28 or so. I repeatedly watched it in tears.....And i know why now. Because as a young person raised as a jehovahs witness, we did everything sofia and caleb were encouraged to do. We took older friends instead of peers, we said no to presents and friends and birthdays and little normal happiness'es that would've helped us develop character, a career, and a life trajectory....and grew up with so much responsibility progressively heaped on us, NEVER feeling the warm fuzzy feelings of Jehovah's love....except when we saw videos like this. It was a way of seeing that it was all worth it...,even if it was projected to us in this little cartoon form.....i was still infantilized.....so it worked for a while. Ok, soooo, in most school situations today, teachers are constantly warned against singling out a student to praise them for being number 1. They will often say something like "everyone who get a 95 or higher on the test will get an extra 10 minutes of free time at the end of the day. Or 'some of you' have been really working hard and your grades are showing it. Im proud of the whole class. But announcing that a student is number 1, in this day and age, is extremely frowned upon and highly unlikely to be happening. I have many friends with school age (6-12yrs) children and I asked them about it after watching this and they all laughed and said, NO, that would never happen. They don't want to make one kid feel superior over another anymore. Just something to think about... JW writing department is so out of touch.

I recently stopped attending the meetings and now someone I used to work for that also attends the meetings is pulling up with the circuit overseer (couldn't have come in a worse time) to try to get me to come back. I'm not even baptized but I still feel like they're trying to control me. I've been attending for well over 4yrs because of my mom making me go and ive been too scared to tell them that Im just not interested, i figured not getting baptized after all this time would've given them a message but no. Now today i gotta be honest and tell them that I'm just not interested. I've noticed that their strategy is to ask specific questions that really have one answer to make it harder for you to deny such "logic"

All they told me was that the door was open if I wanted to attend this week's meeting. But you could feel the tension cuz before that, he was rambling about the devil being sneaky and powerful and how he knows how to catch people.
