My favorite "illegal" technique is taking a thin plate and wedging it in sideways between studs. EDIT: I have been informed that this technique is actually NOT illegal and is used in a few official sets.

Fun fact. LEGO actually used that technique in one of their old sets. Edit: It was a Police Station (ironic) from 1976. Set 370. You can see it on step 15.

@Matt Fien huh. Still, it's still one of the most interesting things I ever discovered as a kid. I ended up making weird psuedo-fractal shapes out of a hundred or so 2x4 plates as well as some other bits and bobs for embellishments. It was kind of a pain in the ass, and the colors were completely random. But if you looked past the mess of colors, it was actually kinda cool... then I tried to pick it up and the whole thing fell apart into chunks of like 8 or so plates.

That one at 2:20 is actually pretty damn cool and you can attach it to something by replacing the 2 by 2 plates with brackets (1x2 - 1x2 + 1x2 plate) or with plate modified (with clips) . I think i will use that technique for a house soon just to see how it would look like

Sure do I use some special techniques it's a lot easier if you want to show your real lego building potencial but I'm also really impressed by the techniques I didn't know untill now very good

I have. Certainly the brick bending ones, and that last example. I use that one quite a bit. Usually with things smaller than your average 3001 brick. I do a lot of mech building, and the technique is sound, but it is still regarded as highly illegal by LEGO purists.
