This to me is so exciting when you consider how this might be helpful for virtual production… passing focus position along to sync with focus of virtual environments, etc. I hope they figure this out soon and make it public because that feature alone would make the increased price look justified

I used to participate in RoboCup, an international robot soccer tournament. The small robots often are outfitted with lidar and infrared range sensors to help them determine where they are on the "field" (depending on the size of the robot, the field would be from the size of a ping pong table to about a basketball half-court). The robots on both teams would play well until the press showed up and aimed their lidar / infrared focus deathbeam cameras at them, at which point the robots would freak out and go on a rampage, or not go into a confused quiver. Then the press would get bored, leave, and everything would work fine again.

I've done exactly this same thing with the original dji osmo pocked and WiFi module connected to my phone. I attached my phone to the bottom of the pole and used active track to track the subject as I sweeper the osmo through the air, on the end of a 5 metre telescopic pole!

Interesting vid. As an AC I would love to have the LidAr map to pull focus on. Thats the thing you can't teach things yet, the moves that hasn't played out in front of camera yet. Also, the dataport for lenses and metadata has been around since the Cooke S4i....even earlier. So there is a way to get data. Prosumer cameras just doen't have a way to save it.

I'll give you the run down. It works but if you shoot with wide lenses like 14-20mm it severely softens the corners. Unusable for Realestate shoots with the BMPCC6k. Also, the inner element that you install can be screwed in closer or farther from the image plane. It will then adjust where infinity and close focus is. So it's not a simple adapter like we're used to with metabones. You really need to know what you're doing with it, otherwise you're results will be all over the place and you will think it's the lens.

Glad to see you back with some content, I was worried. I think what would be interesting is for DZO to go beyond a specific Lidar vendor and develop their own platform that would be compatible across multiple camera vendor platforms. If you are going to introduce a disruptive technology then I think a company should ensure they have some developmental control over the deployment of the platform.

Bought the 35mm and love it, but I would jump at a 16 or 25mm without question for the work I do. I've found with the c70 at least, I get better auto focus from the lidar DZO combo then native auto focus with either the 24-70 or 24-105 - both are common in my run and gun setup. But I am looking for more interesting glass these days so the DZO also gives me more overall value that way, while being the fastest setup possible for quick turns on set.

PSA: With the latest Firmware updates, there are lidar camera profiles for many available Cine lenses, including Nisi, Sirui, etc..... So there is no need for manual calibration anymore. TLDR, with the latest, I calibrated my Nisi lens in 10 seconds, as a lidar lens profile was available on the DJI Ronin App.

Thx for the video. Cooke i technology and their protocols are pretty much industry standard now with distortion mapping for vfx. I know that it’s cool to have a port but not all ports are created equal. Btw I don’t see any comparison to a Cooke lens in terms of image and maybe Gerald is thinking about the external paint job. The look seem firmly in a clean modern look ala Sigma tone and as you say not as sharp. Thx for all the thoughts and work. Always appreciated.
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Gerald was talking in terms of size and appearance of the lens housing. The actual lens itself is a very neutral and soft enough to be great on skin, nothing over the top or noteworthy. His video showcases the values of the primes at that price-- my video shows the utility of the AF-- which is in my opinion a half realized endeavor. Hopefully they integrate with Virtual productions workflow and give us more utility. If they were priced the same I'd say it's worth keeping a set if you shoot RS3 pro, but for it to be priced $900 more for the same lens?! That's a hard one--

Nice overview of new gear, thx! I don’t have access to latest and greatest, so my mind didn’t quite get differences with DJI4D original Lidar kit. It’s a port on the lens, but what does it do different? Does it Increase the range of Follow focus ? For me it felt a bit unclear compared to lidar on DJI 4D…maybe a follow up clip?
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL2 жыл бұрын
There is no difference in performance as stated. Just set up speed. There is zero increase in range, or accuracy, or latency. Simply it's faster to set up with RS3 pro, LiDAR users. Sorry for any confusion!

Question - Once you have set up an autofocus profile for one of the standard Vespid primes with the DJI lidar, and have saved the profile, do you have to set it up again? Or just recall the lens profile? I feel like once you have done it once for each lens, you essentially have what you have with the cyber lenses?
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Just like other manual lenses once you have it stored in the memory it stays there-- You get up to 3 spots. but if you go beyond those 3, then you need to delete and re-do. With the cyber lenses, you don't need a memory spot, the cable gives it that information when its plugged in-- but you need the cable connected the entire time. Otherwise it things its a normal manual lens and will go to one of those memories.

if the port doesn't give a constant readout of positions in the lens, it could just be a NFC chip (or better) with the information needed for lidar. like a handshake. that way pretty much all lenses would be "cyber"!
