The famous NT Runoff needs no introduction. This time of year as the wet season waters subside, Barra of all sizes converge on our big river systems, either moving downstream from the billabongs, or coming in from their coastal habitats after spawning. They come for one reason; to gorge themselves on the tarpon, mullet, scats and rainbow fish being swept downstream with the last of the floodwaters.
We focus our efforts on a location known as ‘Shady Camp’, part of the Mary River and also the South Alligator River in Kakadu, both famous for their trophy Barra, and this is THE time to target truly giant specimens. These big girls have done their business and spawned for the year, now they are looking to put condition back on before their metabolism drops with the water temperature over the dry season.
The Runoff is what we look forward to every season, as not many experiences in fishing compare to seeing a huge, angry female Barra leap clear of the water for the first time, gills flared, trying to dislodge your lure. Crocodiles abound, birdlife is abundant, simply a magic time of year to experience the territory.

SHIKARI JERKBAIT
The Shikari Inshore is a long-casting, shallow diving, slow floating jerkbait with a tungsten weight transfer system. The internal weight slides backward into the tail when casting to maximise distance, and then rolls forward when being retrieved to balance the lure and keep it perfectly level. The Shikari Inshore can be twitched hard on the retrieve to produce an erratic action where the lure will turn 180° triggering violent strikes from inshore gamefish. It can also be trolled with a significant body roll combined with a nose to tail whole body wiggle when retrieved, making it highly appealing to all predators. The Shikari Inshore is also an excellent shallow water trolling bait. The Shikari 145 is built for tough predators with the Gorilla Through Wire System.
