I think the format contributes as well. Tenpai is a very fast and easy deck. You go second, interrupt, break, and otk optimally. You know very fast whether you win or lose. That saves time in the long run, conserving your own resources like time and mental capacity. Add to that a player that already knows the grind and what they are in for, and it makes it at least logical for me that the previous winners did well again.

The thing is Tenpai has so many 1-card combo . From its monster, field spell , quick spell , you only need 1 card in which ever type. So , you can put as many board breaker, handtraps as you wish.

With this DC cup as a small exception, Tasuku's deck building is a massive leap beyond the average player's. He's not afraid to go beyond even 45 cards if it makes sense, and he's also topped with PUNKs when they were sorta out of meta. He topped with a 46 card Rescue-ACE once He also doesn't really get tilted and he accepts loss states pretty quickly. This DC cup, Tasuku's build was mostly just standard Tenpai, so he's just built different.

At this particular form of competiton? Yes. At the game as a whole? I'm not sure. DC is a marathon. Aside from good decision-making, mind games and deckbuilding, you also need endurance - an ability to play on a very high level for a very long time, even while tired, not making dumb mistakes and being tiltproof. Both of them are definitely elite players even among the absolute top of the Yugioh mountain, but I wouldn't say they are definite joined 1st place with a huge gap between them and the rest. Depending on many factors, neither of them might be in Top 3 on a specific day. They are fantastic players that developed a formula for the DC format, but I don't think they transcended so far above the rest.

The fact that there are consistent top performing players is a good indication for the game. It means the game is still gas a laege skill factor and isnt just luck or grinding. You cant beat players like Ryan, Jesse, Josh by just grinding harder than them in duelist cup.

It really shows how little even yugioh players play the game because you can go into another esports game and you'll randomly find a league or apex player with 500 kills within the first few days of a new season. If someone loves something enough they'll keep playing and do nothing else in their life.

To be fair, tenpai is a braindead deck. Go first: make heretic seals, pass. Go second: hand trap opponent, use board beakers and summon paidra 😂 not to take anything away from the players because they are both good players In their own right, but if you grind hard enough anyone can qualify with that deck
