BROOO Brandon I am LOVING your videos my guy! Keep being so incredibly creative with them. Too often drummers are made fun of for not being creative enough, but you’re the polar opposite man! Always enjoy when I see a notification of a new vid and I also enjoy rewatching your old stuff. Keep being awesome 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

My guess is the kick mic might be peaking due to the placement of the mic. The port hole sends out a lot of air, and depending on the position of your kick mic, it may be getting punched with air every time you hit the kick. Try to place it further inside the port hole, pointing at the batter head, or the beater if you want more attack. Each kick is different, so you may need to try a few different mic positions to get a good sound without peaking. Just my guess though! Great video dude, congrats on the awesome mics!
@KennySharretts2 жыл бұрын
You are pretty close to correct. The mic needs to be a bit further into the shell, AND as close to the shell as you can get without scraping the edge of the drumhead's port. Then just ever so slightly towards the beater. This has worked epically well for me in my video shoots.
@drumsespresso2 жыл бұрын
@@KennySharretts wow wasn’t expecting a reply from you, sir! I love your content, you are awesome! Glad I was at least close :D I’ll have to try that mic positioning with my SR20LS, if you get it as close as you can to the shell, that’ll result in the mic pointing at the batter head and not much room to aim at the beaters? Or can you aim at beaters but get it close to the shell?
@KennySharretts2 жыл бұрын
@@drumsespresso Wow thank YOU for the kind words. Brandon killed it in this video. Yeah it's a touch thing. Barely angled at the beater then micro adjustments for taste. Check out the 9:00 min mark in my DK7 review. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5mzlpuwasehndk We literally plugged it in, set the angle, found the sweet spot on the preamp, and boom. We had boom with attack. There's ZERO EQ or FX on the kick mic in this vid.

@@drumsespresso awesome!! I hope it works. I combined this mic with my PR48 in the “fet” position about an inch away from the head for the last 2 vids I shot. The combo is insane!!!!! I’m absolutely loving these Earthworks Mics

Awesome video Brandon! I love the way those new microphones captured the snappy sound from your snare. I’m pretty sure it was in part due to your excellent drumming skills and the way you put them to your drums makes you a qualified drum tech or sound engineer too! Gain a little weight and you can be a drum roadie lol! Keep up the good work!

They sound quite neutral with a hyped high end. Makes me wonder how much of a problem bleeding from cymbals (and other drums) is. Also this felt more like an add than anything else. A nice add.

The earthworks mics seem to able to catch so much natural high end without producing too much environment noise bleeding. So many mics would need compression or gating there. But I'm new to production and have too much to learn so, my opinion is uneducated lmao

Awesome review! The Earthworks sound crazy good, already before EQ. Question: Are these purely studio mics, or would they also double as live mics? I'm imagining that with such a detailed sound capture, they'd be prone to tons of feedback in live settings.
@NK-ov6kd5 ай бұрын
Thoght the Same, with earthwork you hear your Drums as they are tuned. Hear the snare wire while Hit the high Tom. Sometimes IT might be better to use the Sennheiser to get a more fat Tom Sound.

@blakegarzamusic20035 ай бұрын
personally as a mixing enginneer, i think the only mic that outshined the old set was the kick, but not by much, for the price of those mice I don't believe I would get them, they sound good, however i think that your old set would be able to handle heavier processing than those mice, just because of how natural they sound, the more processing you add to the earth works it almost doesn't emphizise the parts of the kit that i would want. PS. i mostly do stuff with heavy drum processing so that just my opinion.
