Summary💡 Avoid needing constant spoonfeeding by instructors and instead learn to Google solutions to problems. Don't defer difficult topics like JavaScript logic; spend time on the core logic used in real-world development. Avoid spending too much time on details like CSS gradients or Express server intricacies; focus on the core logic that takes up most of the development time. Practice coding yourself instead of just following along with tutorials. Learn to Google and use AI to find solutions to problems; don't rely on others for help. Don't rely solely on a single video, course, or instructor; diversify your learning resources. Add blind spots to your learning journey to challenge yourself and improve your memory of syntax and concepts. Consistent practice is key to becoming a good developer; coding the same application multiple times helps solidify understanding.

This is a good video. The standing on the sidelines could be also translated for all levels too: avoiding the hard thing for other less important things. The habit of diving into the hard thing that the business or the app NEEDS is the heart of growing yourself.

Really liked the first 3 points. There is always a disadvantage of being too curious about something. When I first began my journey in Web Development, after coving CSS I used to see lots of mini CSS tutorials all over youtube and those tutorials were really beautiful and difficult to come up with on your own. During those times I used to feel I will never be able to become a developer if I do not know how to make such beautiful designs with CSS but over the course of time I realised that I do need to learn about CSS in so much depth 'yet'. Similar case happens when using library or any programming concept/tool. How does it work under the hood? But just because I am curious and I want to know that does not mean I need to know everything right now. FIrst learrn basic and essential stuff that makes you a developer and after that try to explore things that makes you curious.

What all u hv mentioned is really a good conclusion of why people don't get into coding properly or get good at it. It would have been more amazing if u talked about how to handle these situations a little more. Like how actually to get an overview of the "Difficult bit" how much is needed to be skip and how much pre-requesits to be followed. And I believe a lot of people don't google because sometimes they don't know how to google for a particular issue, which is solved by an AI up to some context.

Going real deep into CSS comes with the same drawbacks as when you go deep into anything: diminishing returns. Combined with the fact that CSS is only a fraction of what you’ll be doing you’re going to get small fractions of diminishing returns.

Good video and well done with getting over 100k views. I work in a bank and am part of a large scale digital project. The one gap I see is coders don’t understand software engineering. I’d rather a programmer think about a solution and give a robust solution with little bugs that someone who develops quickly but is buggy and no proper structure. I watched Jack Heringtons No BS TS when I started with typescript 2 years ago. Good resource .

🚀 The video discusses the common mistakes made by aspiring software developers.- 📚 Avoid relying too much on instructors and spoon-feeding; learn to Google and find solutions independently.- 💻 Don't defer learning the difficult parts, like JavaScript, as real-world coding primarily involves main application logic.- ⏰ Spend time where you'll eventually work, focusing on writing code and building your skills in the areas you'll use most.- 🧠 Practice coding on your own to truly learn and understand concepts, rather than just following along with tutorials.- 🔍 Learn how to effectively use Google and online resources to solve coding problems and expand your knowledge.- 📚 Diversify your learning sources to avoid relying too heavily on a single video or course. Highlights- 🚀 The need to be self-sufficient and independent in learning coding.- 💻 Focus on the main application logic rather than getting stuck in easier areas like CSS.- ⏰ Spend time coding and practicing, building your skills effectively.- 🔍 Develop strong problem-solving skills by learning how to effectively use Google and online resources.- 📚 Avoid relying solely on one video or course; diversify your learning sources.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🚀 *Getting Started in Coding* - Avoid the mistake of expecting to be spoon-fed everything. - Deferring difficult parts can hinder progress; prioritize tackling challenging aspects early. - Spend time where real developers in companies spend theirs; focus on writing the main application logic. 01:51 🛠️ *Deferring the Difficult Bits* - Deferring challenging tasks, like learning JavaScript, can hinder career progress. - Emphasizes the importance of focusing on the core skills needed for the job, rather than avoiding difficulties. - Highlights the risk of spending too much time on less critical aspects like CSS. 03:02 📝 *Focus on Where You Spend Your Time* - Stress on the significance of spending time on the majority of application logic rather than delving into the details of bootstrapping. - Use examples to illustrate why understanding the core logic is crucial for effective coding. - Encourages aspiring developers to prioritize learning the essential skills required in real-world projects. 04:28 🧠 *Importance of Practice* - Emphasizes the necessity of practicing coding independently. - Encourages learners to move beyond just following along with tutorials and start coding on their own. - Advocates for gradual progression from following along to coding independently. 05:52 🔍 *Learn to Google Effectively* - Stresses the importance of developing effective Googling skills for problem-solving. - Highlights the myth of pair coding and encourages self-reliance in finding solutions online. - Emphasizes that many issues faced by developers have likely been encountered and solved before. 06:49 🎓 *Avoid Complete Dependency* - Advises against complete dependency on a single video, course, or instructor. - Encourages learners to pick and choose relevant content from various sources. - Advocates for decentralizing learning to avoid reliance on a single resource. 08:00 🚧 *Adding Blind Spots for Independence* - Advocates for intentionally adding blind spots in learning to become independent. - Encourages memorizing syntax and coding independently, even if it means encountering challenges. - Emphasizes that independence in coding is crucial for becoming proficient in the long run. This is 100% true for sure I come from a vfx/gaming art background and everything can be related to certain habits people have even in this industry. The part of code that bootstraps an application to a server example can also be related to unwanted deep dives in areas that you do not need to dissect but just use that feature, I have done that and realized that I was playing it safe. Just not software a lot of people can connect or apply this hard honest truth with their life. The sooner the better.

Learn what you need, seems like terrible advice imo. As a software engineer you never know what you might really need down the road. I see a lot of fad regarding directly learning frameworks skipping over the core language concepts. Every tech stack (or their dependencies) have footguns, which if not being aware of (or skipping) can bite you later on. In the express example, defining routes and implementing business logic is the easy part. What about the middleware, what if the UI requires CORs related header? Or authorization logic. Sure these things can be learned on the job, but if lacking in plain awareness of what may be wrong, can bite you or make you waste hours. For example, quire recently I had to deal with cached responses from NextJS app router. Which took a really long time to drill down, cause we were not aware that it by default will cache the GET calls.
