Baikens story is essentially taking revenge on the man that took her arm, her eye, and her entire village. She's spent basically her entire life filled with rage and resentment leaving her closed off to everyone. In strive specifically she gives up her journey of revenge because she sees a young child going down the same path she went down and saw how it can consume their entire life and becomes that childs motherly figure.

The Chant you hear in Baiken's theme is actually a buddhist chant called the Mantra of Light. It's a mantra given to the dead that died violently or with extremely troubled emotions, in order to sever the senses (cut away all vexations? Eh?) and allow them hopefully some measure of peace in the afterlife. In the beginning of the song, this can be taken as baiken already resigning herself to her fate and knowing she'll probably die filled with hate and rage, but at the end of the song I personally like to imagine it's her allowing herself to sever her bitterness and let her old self die in order to move on with the people she now allows herself to love and who love her back. Yeah, i love baiken and this theme lol

Guilty Gear's creator Daisuke Ishiwatari is an artist and musician, and is a huge fan of rock and metal. He designed many of the characters, the story and world, and wrote the music. He also voices the main character (Which yes, is Sol Badguy). Absolute powerhouse of an artist. Many of the moves, weapons, and even characters in the game are named after or in reference to famous rock/metal songs and musicians. It's badass.

Voiced*. He voiced Sol for the first two games, then left it to the new VA afterwards. The funniest thing was just that even after he got a new voice actor, people LOVED Daisuke’s voice so much that they tended to prefer his voice over the other, especially when they had the choice to swap the voice in Guilty Gear XX and its title updates.

Faust's deal is pretty sad, yes. He was originally a miracle worker doctor that could cure any disease, but one day one of his pantients died (they were actually killed) and he went completely insane and became a serial killer for an undetermined number of years. In the first game (Guilty Gear: Missing Link) he was actually in prison and escaped to freedom after hearing the crowd cheer him on, and he spends basically the rest of the franchise trying as hard as he possibly can to do as much good in the world as possible in an attempt to make up for the pain he caused. This is also why he hides his head with a bag, to hide his identity. So yeah. Miracle doctor goes insane, kills people, stops being evil, and now is a (still quite insane) miracle doctor that runs around the world helping whoever he can for nothing in return.

Fausts story is uhhhhh... complicated. He started out as an amazing doctor but when one of his patients was killed and he was blamed for it he went crazy (the deranged serial killer kind). But then he found out that the patient was assassinated explicitly to stop his research because he was about to discover immortality. He then started acting crazy (the nice funny clown kind) trying to help as many people as he could to try to atone for being a serial killer. He ended up using magic that was way beyond him and it took a toll on his mind so now he's crazy (the sad vaguely creepy kind where you can tell he's not all there). You may have noticed a pattern.

Quick lore rundownd for the themes. Baiken: after spending many many years in a solo quest for revenge, she finally decides to give up and is now trying to become "a mirror of the world", aka, returning even the smallest amount of kindness back to the friends who never gave up on her. Sol: a gorilla with a PhD telling you kindly to stop fucking up his life or he'll fuck you up Faust: used to be a miraculous healer, lost a patient, went crazy, became a serial killer, went sane, and is now trying to come to terms with his actions during the insane period

Favorite thing about Baiken's theme is the wordplay. You can prominently hear the phrase "Rokkon shojo". Which is the last two words of the mantra of light, the chanting you hear preceding that. But it can also be interpreted as "Rock on shoujo," with shoujo meaning girl or woman.

The 'demon from the bag' actually belongs to Zato-one, the charcter who actually made the good old devil deal. His theme, 'Let me carve your way' is goddamn exceptional and I hope any sequel to this video includes it. Faust doesn't have any demonness to him, he just went insane after Zato assassinated a patient of his and he thought it was his fault through malpractice. So, not much better.
@Sassaparilla
@Sassaparilla 5 ай бұрын
Well, he has some demon-ness. Faust is named after Johan Faust, as in "The Faustian Bargain". A man who allegedly made a deal with the devil. Not just any man though. He was an alchemist, an astrologer, and magician. He was admonished by the church and declared a devil worshipper. Kinda fitting for our Faust. How he came to produce miracles is unknown. He's a target of the church due to his supposed misdeeds. And in exchange for everything, in the end, he achieved his goal. Redemption in one way or another for this Faust. Even if it wasn't a pretty "end", regardless, he got what he wanted.

Faust in the previous games was a lot goofier than in this one. His gimmick is that he can throw items onto the stage that have various effects. The catch is that what he gets is random so he has to just make the most of whatever he’s stuck with. He’s one of the easier characters to play in terms of controls and such, but his items mean that he needs top notch improv skills Storywise, he isn’t evil (he’s arguably the most altruistic character), but he is hanging onto his sanity by his fingernails, which makes him scary in a different way. The deal with a demon thing was a good guess considering his name, but it’s more that he’s a victim of circumstance and his life got ruined by forces outside his control and it broke him

Your 100% right about Baiken's and Sol's theme. Baiken's theme is about her jouney as a character and Sol is indeed the main character of the series. There is a reason why he is always on the cover, he is the "Guilty Gear". Faust was a doctor who never lost a patient, until a surgery that failed because it was sabotaged which led to the death of the patient. That broke Faust and led to him killing people. When Faust realized what he was doing, he put a bag over his face and became a doctor again to make up for the lives the took. At least that's my understanding of the story. Pretty much every song in Guilty Gear is rock, as the creator is a big rock fan, but there is plenty of variation in the soundtrack, as seen in Baiken's and Faust's theme. All of the songs in Guilty Gear are really good, some just need some getting used to.

Gulty Gear Strive definitely has one of the best vocal OSTs in the Fighting Game genre, while you can have some instant favorites, most of the songs will grow on you eventually, they're just that good, there are plenty of happy songs (Disaster of Passion, Perfection Can't Please Me, Out of the Box), some really depressing songs (Let Me Carve Your Way, Hellfire, The Circle), and some songs that have some unexpectedly _profound_ lyrics (Necessary Discrepancy, Armor-clad Faith, Love the Subhuman Self), there's something for everyone in this game and it's great Next time you do this i really want you to listen to either Armor-clad Faith, Extras, or Out of the Box. Out of the Box, Axl Low's theme, is very much a reference to classic British pop-rock, a reference to how Axl himself came from the era of classic British pop-rock, and ended up in the Gulty Gear timeline due to time travel shenanigans. Extras, Elphelt Valentine's theme, is a really fun song, i don't wanna spoil anything about this song because you need to experience it firsthand, but i will say to keep in mind, there is only 1 singer in this song, she sings the song by herself. Finally, Armor-clad Faith, Potemkin's theme is an amazing song, it tells the story of a man who knows he's not smart enough to change the world, but he's gonna try anyway, and it just makes me really emotional, and while the man isn't a bear himself, he certainly is built like one. Some more recommendations, Hellfire, Leo Whitefang's theme is great, it's got an exciting blood-pumping beat fitting for a fighting game, but its lyrics are just hard shots of double Depresso. Then there's a really fun song, 'Like A Weed, Naturally, As a Matter Of Course', Testament's theme, since Testament is an Agender creature with a very androgynous look, this song switches back and forth between he and she pronouns, which is just fun to me. And of course, can't go through a Guilty Gear OST reaction without recommending the fan-favorite Love the Subhuman Self, Millia Rage's theme is the most popular song in this game, it's great, i love it, can't say much about it, i just want you to experience it yourself. Also, if you wanna, i recommend listening to Big Blast Sonic from Guilty Gear Xrd, that's another good one, very inspirational lyrics too.

Faust is less about making a deal with the devil, and is instead just dealing with his evil past. After a patient of his was murdered, he blamed himself and broke down mentally. He became a psycho killer, and killed a lot of people before finally coming back to his senses and hiding his face under a bag, forcing himself to wander as an underground doctor who treated anyone with anything for free to atone. The song is probably representing his dwindling mental and physical state, thus the reason for there seeming to be multiple voices as he fights himself internally. At the end though after the slow part you can hear the voices start to agree, meaning that perhaps he is beginning to find peace. Not sure though, just a faust main who's first game in the series was Strive

In the backstory of GG Japan got wiped out by Gears and the survivors have not exactly been treated well. Baiken's story has her be one of the last remaining Japanese people and setting out for revenge, having lost her family and been mangled by Gears. Initially appearing as the secret boss in the first game and jumping Sol/Ky after seeing how strong they are and that Sol is a Gear/Ky is a cop, she's sought revenge against those responsible for creating Gears in the games since. Her prior storylines have either had her stave off her revenge or succumb to it and become a murderer (the latter obviously not being canon as those characters are still alive, but she has that capability in her), with Anji being her closest morality pet. By the post timeskip she's focused more on protecting others and her heritage rather than revenge, but hasn't completely let it go. If you look at her appearance in the 2D games she gives serious murder hobo vibes. Her story in Strive has her meeting Nagoriyuki and showing him her current outlook on life, giving him some life advice and being a tiny bit of a mentor to him in this new age. Sol Badguy is the protagonist of the series, appearing 24 of the games 25 games (2D platformer spinoff on DSi being the one exception). He is the Guilty Gear. As a human he helped create Gears, intending to use the Gear Project to save his lover Aria Hale from disease, and became the prototype Gear, but once Gears declared war on humanity he'd seek to destroy them (He literally is the Guilty Gear). As the series has gone on, he's gone from a surly loner seeking to destroy Gears and his former colleagues to a savior of humanity that, while still a loner, has made connections to most of the cast, even helping raise his former rival Ky's son, Sin. Despite being super smart and a scientist, he's a headstrong guy that prefers not to think too hard. "Strategy? Spacing? I just keep punching until I hit something." Despite letting his hatred of the Gear-Maker/Asuka go and understanding why he's done what he's done, he still seeks to settle a personal score with him. In the story of Strive, he's currently back to bounty hunting on his own... well, maybe not exactly on his own. Faust is amazing, and pretty sad despite spending a lot of the series as a goofy jokester. In the original Guilty Gear, there was a character named Dr Baldhead, once a renowned doctor able to perform miracles through his reality warping abilities. However, when he tried to save a girl with an experimental procedure he was denied multiple times, but tried to anyway. Little did he know, the procedure held the secret to resurrection and the higher ups didn't want this known, so they sabotaged the procedure, having Zato-1, leader of the Assassin's Guild, kill the girl. Unaware of the deception, and overcome by guilt over losing a patient after ignoring what he was told, Dr Baldhead would go mad and embark on a killing spree, until getting caught up in the tournament in the first game. There, the ghost of the girl would appear and tell him (part of) the truth. In shame, he'd disappear... In the game immediately after (Guilty Gear X), a "new" (treated as returning) character named Faust would appear. A miracle worker with a bag over his head, he'd aim to help as many people as possible, but held a grudge against the assassin's guild. Fighting with wacky reality bending moves like Dr Baldhead, he'd go on through the series being a tremendous help, allying with the Jellyfish Pirates and helping with the disease spreading through the remaining Japanese populace while uncovering the truth of those that had ruined Dr Baldhead's life. Having a bit of a breakdown between REV 2 and Strive, he's lost much of this jovial air he carried around since GGX, but still seeks to help in whatever ways he can, such as trying to reach out to Nagoriyuki and help him with his blood rage. Ramlethal initially opposes him, wanting to offer Nagoriyuki a hand from Illyria, but they realize they both want to help him and either join forces or stay out of each others' ways, and even though Ramlethal is a government official and Faust is not practicing medicine legally she respects him and his good altruistic nature. (You might notice a lot of characters in the base game and first season of DLC are trying to reach out to Nagoriyuki, as he's the boss of every character's story until Season 2. Maybe you should check out Nagoriyuki's theme, What Do You Fight For, or the boss theme, Crawl)

Faust's story is, long story short: once an amazing god-like doctor, tried to save a little girl from a deadly condition, little girl died, it drove him to insanity and he went on a killing spree, turns out the girl was killed by the guy with the shadow (Zato=1) to send him in to madness, Faust is now on a path to try and redeem himself by saving as many lives as he can while hiding his face behind a paper bag (and changing his name to Faust). He was once an incredibly wacky character who did silly things with his unique magic of reality manipulation (spatial deformation), but in Strive he seems to be a husk of who he once was and is in an almost zombie-like state. The creator said that his new state is a reflection on his deepest feelings which likely stems from his regret and a want to die (and yet survive at the same time). In one cutscene in the game he was shown to lose what seemed to be his soul to exhaustion, otherwise it's mostly a mystery.

If you want recommendations I think Ky, May, Axl Low and Chipp are a really good trio of character themes to continue with. Ky is basically GGs secondary protagonist (he's peak) and May, Axl and Chipp are both just really cool and all four have AMAZING songs. They're also basically characters 2 3 4 and 5 in roster order, to go with Sols #1, so it's a nice order. But honestly you can't really go wrong with whatever you go with next but I would definently love to see you listen to all of the Strive vocal themes if you want to do that. (Also I wanted to edit this to be at the end of my first comment where I summarized the lore for the themes you just listened to but KZbin is being weird about it I can't submit the edit so lol)

I had never actually listened to baiken’s theme all the way through before, and for whatever reason the part at 7:44 made my eyes tear up a bit. It still uses the heavy metal-ish Japanese lyrics but with the English ones before painting her story it was amazing.

I'm actually impressed at how spot on you were from just listening to the character themes. Minor inaccuacies aside, you're right. Baiken wad on a mission of revenge... but failed, and as the world changed around her she sort of went into state of self reflection and self loathing of the person she became. Sol is in fact the stories MC, and often times ends up throwing himself at potentially world ending situations on his own mission of self redemption. And Faust... nostly right. No deal with a devil. He is the proverbial devil in the situation, as he was once a crazed murderer trying to mend his ways, and fell into a sort of psychosis that put him between his murderous self and the part of him that is still, "Human". I'm leaving out the finer points to each of them here, but thats more or less the jist of each one and you pretty much nailed them!

Faust from "Colours" is at least to me singing a duet with himself and it's between his various personalities. Faust when talking about his body is using the "We" but when from each individual part of himself he uses "I". "I had to run away" "We've got only on sky .... What is it like to you?" "We see eye to eye... I told it without you" point toward Faust singing to himself and trying to come to an agreement with himself. He himself is the "Alone Infection" since only he suffers from his madness and the discord it causes has given rise to different personalities. He is the "Messiah" but he will also "not come".

I think picking three at randomn is an interesting approach, it might be fun to just keep doing that. The only thing I'd recommend (and this is a soft recommendation, so actually just do what you like) is leaving Requiem and Drift for later, as they are good 'final boss' style themes, as far as the OST goes. It won't be a _mistake_ to not do it that way, though, so go with what feels best to you.

So Faust… I don’t think anyone in the community really knows what he’s babbling about in the song. But, we all seem to agree that is probably the point. Faust was once a doctor named Dr. Baldhead, who was renowned for being a miracle worker (probably due to his vague connection to the realm made entirely of information, the Backyard) and being able to cure anything. But, he once had the task of saving a young girl, needing to do a special procedure, but was denied due to the actions of what amounts to the shadow government. He decided to just go on with it anyway, but was immediately stopped by an assassination covered up as a failure on the doctor’s part. The reason? He was close to discovering a method for resurrecting the dead, which the shadow government disliked. He went mad following this, and became a mass murderer, until he regained his sanity enough to repent for his sins and seek to atone by being an even greater doctor, but feeling so ashamed he put a bag over his head and became our lovable goofy Faust. Fast forward to strive, he’s not gotten much better. During the events of the side story, he expends all his energy to save the same girl that Baiken saves by giving up her revenge to be there for her. In semi-comedy, Faust’s soul leaves his body as if he dies, but instead he just becomes a really weird husk of the goofy silly man he was, speaking slowly and deeply, only able to think about helping people and speaking small phrases. He’s still hanging in there, he just needs some rest probably.

If you want a real case of whiplash, just compare Faust's design here to his design in GG Xrd. Dude used to very much be a looney-tunes Dr. Funnyman until we got to see Strive's DLC story. ...although he still is, in a few ways. Particularly his cinematic super, where he rams a wheelchair right into his opponent's shin. Even better--every character gets a completely unique close-up shot for their reaction.

Ok my final comment lol, sol is definitely the main character as you guessed and honestly hes more like jotaro where hes doing good things but being a bit of a dick about it. Sol was a scientist who against his will was turned into a monster known as a "gear" (you can see this transformation in the small parts where he gets big dragon wings) so he was essentially forced into being a hero as hes essentially one of the strongest characters in the franchise. His main motivation is kinda to just be able to live in peace with his wife but people keep trying to destroy the world and dragging him into it

Faust is a doctor, much like his namesake, but he hasn't made a deal with a devil in a literal sense. Rather, at some point in his career, he was able to cure every patient he had up until that point - a flawless record... until one day, he met a young girl that had died during her surgery by his own hands. This failure, a singular moment in his entire career, sent him down a spiral of psychosis. Dubbing himself Dr. Baldhead, he went on a killing spree, massacring several individuals in the process. All wounds eventually heal, though, and his sanity returned, yet the scars remained. Faust regained his humanity and wished death upon himself, but quickly learned that the girl's death was not his fault. Instead, it was caused by an unrelated party for some apparent reason, whom is learned of in later entries. In recent entries, Faust was treated as a joke character where most of his attacks are goofy and silly, almost cartoonishly so, most still are in Strive, but unfortunately, something happened between this game and the last, leaving Faust in a state of disarray, hence the more sinister posture and framing. What exactly happened to the good doctor is mostly unknown as all we really know of Faust is that he's currently traveling with a man named Chronus from the previous title. Chronus is one of a handful of members of the Conclave, and Faust initially believed they are at fault for the malpractice; however, it was not their doing either. It's implied, although, not specifically stated, that the act was performed by The Universal Will, a near godlike entity created by The Original - otherwise known as That Man - to ensure humanity eternal happiness without causing harm to them, ironically. This being, however, believes humanity was discarding their free will, and since The Original never defined what humanity was for the Will, it believed humans would cease to exist if they lacked free will. How this correlates with the girl's botched surgery is anyone's guess. In a rather ironic twist, Faust's tragedy was less a deal with a devil but rather the folly of a misguided angel.

The vocals in Baiken'd theme always make.me.emotional towards the end. Sol's theme is often described as "Being in a barfight, but you're winning". Its just a solid tune altogether. And Faust is representative kf the madness that he's struggled with after someone sabotaged an operation, the death of the patient (a young girl) caused him to go temporarily insane. He became a serial killer, until he after the events of the first game where he regains a small semblance of sanity. He starts wearing the bag on his head to conceal his identity and to masl his shame.
