It’s really frustrating because they’ll send out announcements to the office about wrinkled clothing but I don’t know how to fix it because I don’t know how to iron clothes properly, and on top of that (until recently) lived in a college dorm where they didn’t want us to have irons. I think that there's a concept like that called "Death of the ideal child". Basically, every parents makes up an idealized version of what they want their kid to be like. Firstly, physically ("Maybe he'll have your nose ? Or your father blue eyes !"), but also mentally ("He'll be a little troublemaker, just like his dad ! And I'm sure he'll love baseball as much as I do !"). As the child grow up, and become their own individual, the parents must accept the fact that the ideal child never existed, and to let it go. Its a vital part of parenting, and to accept your children as they are. Note that the death of the ideal child can be felt like an actual death of a close one, hence why some parents, when learning of their children non-heterosexuality or trans-identity, feels like their child died, as they must cope with the fact that the real and ideal child are two distinct beings.

My worst inteview became the best, they at first judged me because of my tattoos, then my very casual clothes, and one asked me a lot of personal questions, at some point I said "I am sorry, but you sound dumb. I don't know why you would ask that, when I have 4 years experience in something you dont have, you know I dont pretend I am a doctor because I am not.". Most of these girls, if not ALL of them didn't need to have makeovers. The only girl that I think truly needed a makeover was the girl that was into gangs and gang-affiliation. Being affiliated with gangs is a really dangerous thing to even want to try and emulate, so I understand why her mother would want her to change. She could still dress "urban" without being gang-affiliated. The girl that bullied her blind mother and dropped out of school probably needed an attitude makeover. Besides that, none of these punk girls needed to be bashed and berated when a lot of them were actually really sweet and had great personalities. It's also really disgusting how they hired those "audience members" to act so nasty towards them. As for the other girl that was 14, which I'll take out of the "gang fashion" and categorize as "skimpy fashion", I do think that since she's younger she shouldn't flaunt her bodies as much as a grown woman should, but also it's very normal to wear a miniskirt, daisy dukes or a crop top. This was the 90s, so I think we've come a long way from back then, but we just need to quit sexualizing every aspect of women, especially young adolescent girls.

18:57 Stitchess mentions that people normally wouldn't flaunt it if they have it but for me, I am legitimately concerned for this 14 year old because she could be a victim of grooming - victims usually don't recognized they are being groomed because they are so young and because young people are so uninformed about it. I sincerely hope that is not the case but I feel like this part was just skimmed over by everyone on the show who just dismisses her as a 'sl*t' when instead they should be more concerned for her and asking her sincere questions instead of judging her :/ I think it is really reflective of the cultural mindset of the time which I also saw growing up

Hi there! I must say It made me really sad when you shot down sunny for saying that she was proud to be a drug-free teenager. YES it is true that being drug free doesn’t automatically make you a good person but I wanted to point out that she is standing up for her fashion community by saying this because people often assume that being of a certain style means you do drugs and misbehave so she is trying to fight negative stereotypes by stating that she is “straight-edge”. Also lots of kids come from vulnerable countries and communities where drug abuse by minors is common and it’s a tough battle for them to stay drug-free and off the streets with little or no support. So NO being drug free doesn’t make you a saint but people, especially KIDS are allowed to feel proud to not be on drugs, thank you! 💕
@amanda12714 жыл бұрын
She's allowed to feel proud, but that doesn't give her an excuse to pretend like she's better than others for it. The thing that needs to change is that people aren't educated on alternative fashions and make assumptions without knowing people who dress that way. If people took the time to learn, it would be a lot easier than her going on tv and arguing with another girl because she's not "straightedge" the way Sunny is. Sunny actually acted pretty annoying about the fact that she's straightedge in this episode. If she's proud about it, she doesn't need to brag about it as much as she can.
@pinkrosa444 жыл бұрын
Amanda Anderson yeah I don’t agree with that part, I don’t understand why sunny went off like that all of a sudden 🤨
@AishaVamps4 жыл бұрын
@@pinkrosa44 she went off cause people like that one girl give the alternative community a bad name and depending on what year this came out the aftermath of Columbine already messed up so many things for alternative community and assuming anyone who dresses in dark clothes and listening to punk/goth/industrial/metal automatically meant they wanted to kill people and were satanists so she had every right to be pissed off about that
@kristall59284 жыл бұрын
@@amanda1271 she wasn't bragging. Did you not hear the person shout out about what kind of drugs they were on? Have you never heard people ask gothic people what they have to be on to look like that? Being of a certain age, I can tell you that shiny satin buttoned shirts had a moment in the 90s and didn’t seem tacky to us then! Also if I remember correctly, there were makeover shows like this making over girls who were “ too frumpy.” So no matter your style, it’s never going to be good enough for someone. Also also, unnatural hair colors really were uncommon back then. I remember it was kind of a big deal when Gwen Stefani dyed her hair blue.

I remember when I went goth and my parents were actually supportive, I found out later they actually didn't really like the style. But the thing was.... it was my style and my clothes, and they didn't feel like they should have anything to say about what style I wanted to wear. That's really a good attitidue to have I think, so shoutout to my parents. XD They had their opinions but didn't push them on me. I'm 24 and just coming out of my goth phase now. XD
