When we 'discover' life with Webb it will probably be life billions of years ago. If it exists now we can't detect it yet. Looks like we're stuck in time.....

Not necessarily. The closest star is only 4 light years away. The Milky Way is only 100,000 light years across. Logically speaking we could find life 100 light years away. Meaning we would only see it 100 years ago.

We don't understand the origins of life hardly at all. It could be so unlikely that despite countless trillions of planets in the universe that Earth is the singular biosphere. Or it could have occured thousands of times in our galaxy alone. We just don't know what we don't know.

What will really bake your noodle Marques, is that the life you are seeking could be in our backyard and not some exoplanet light years away. Missions are being worked on right now for this very thing. It's a really exciting time in science.

We know more about SpaceX than our own oceans, however, we know a much larger percentage of our oceans than the universe, just because of the sheer size of the universe. So while exploring both is important, exploring space (I believe) is more important

This is the reason why Planet Mars should be encouraged because, exploring other Planets would be easier when one other than Earth has been explored.

As an astronomer working on characterising exoplanet atmospheres, I always feel a little uncomfortable when people use phrases like "This planet shouldn't exist". For a start, our methods of determining the size and masses of exoplanets are subject to some huge sources of noise and large errors. There are very few exoplanets whose size and mass (and therefore density) we can be almost certain about. Now, perhaps more importantly, we find ourselves in a system of just 8 relatively small planets orbiting a very typical star. Almost everything we know about planet formation is based on our own limited experience. Most of the systems we've found exoplanets in are smaller, dimmer stars with larger planets (because these systems are the easiest to detect). We know very little about formation of anything outside the range of planets in our own solar system. To say planets like super-puffs "Shouldn't exist" is either being very naive, or being somewhat sensationalist in the language you're using. Those planets aren't explained by our existing models, but there's no reason why they "shouldn't exist". Our models apply to a narrow range of planets, super-puffs lie outside that range. I much prefer to phrase it as something like "These planets don't fit any of our existing models", or "We can't yet explain how these planets could form".

I don't think they meant it that way, they also need a good yt title that attracts viewers. So I don't think using a title like "We don't know how these planets formed" will attract viewers and increase the popularity of the channel.

Every scientist working in astronomy absolutely knows that our assumptions of what forms life could take are very limited by our own existence. All life on earth is carbon-based, all cut from the same cloth. But this is also the only way we actually know life can exist. Sure we could postulate something like "What if there's silicon-based life that breathes nitrogen and drinks hydrogen peroxide", but there are infinitely many suggestions like this, and we have no idea which of them are going to be reasonable. There would be no point trying to tailor our telescopes and detectors for those molecules, because we have no clue what to actually look for. We have to start in our own backyard, because everything else is just a shot in the dark.

The other planets could sustain life, just not the type of life we are use to. The life on these other planets could be made of elements that are available in that world. We are flesh beings that need oxygen and other things we know about our make up, but these other beings could be able to breath gases that would kill humans and vice versa if they were to come here. Our environment may not be enough for them or too extreme to them! They could be all metal beings.. its not too far fetched when we are flesh beings that have electric pulse and can produce static and energy.. We looking for humans on other planets, but that may have been reserved for just this planet. Thats why we have visitations by more advanced life forms that can move in vehicles at speeds that would rip a human to shreds in a instance.

i agree. people are like only planets in a specific distance, containing specific stuff, meeting specific requirements could hold life. we shouldn't base the universe on us.

We have bigger moral questions as a society. The final frontier is the human heart... We should work to build better family foundations. We pursue science but neglect ourselves. Just my thought. If there is truly a climate crisis, we billions on other science?
