Read Q&A below: "When the mind moves (in the form of thought) even a little, that is samsara (worldly bondage); when the mind abides firmly and motionless (in the awareness of the Self) that is mukti (liberation). This is certain. Therefore know that the wise man must hold his mind firm by supreme Self-awareness." ~ Lord Shiva (Sri Devikalottara - Jnanahara Vichara Patalah; Rendered into Tamil by Sri Ramana Maharshi) ---------- Q: But, how to live in this world without thinking? A: Think when it is necessary; otherwise, keep the mind quiet to avoid distraction and suffering. Q: Well, what about positive thoughts? A: "All thoughts are sorrowful, because thoughts take one’s attention away from the Self, which is undiluted Happiness." ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi (Guru Ramana, by S.S. Cohen) Q: How not to be interested in thoughts? A: By using our power of discrimination, we can recognize that the objects of our thoughts are transitory - they come and go, leaving us in suffering. If we develop this ability to see through to the end, we naturally become disinterested in our thoughts. Q: Are there any practices to keep the mind quiet? A: Essentially, all spiritual practices are meant to quieten the mind. There are many practices available for this purpose, such as fixing our attention on the awareness of the Self through enquiry; if that is difficult, we can fix our attention on the awareness of breath; if that is also difficult, we can connect our breath with mental repetition of a Mantra like So(in) Ham(out) or Aum(in) Namashivaya(out) - preferably given by a guru - or we can choose something as simple as I(in)AM(out), and through long and persistent practice, Self-awareness will arise spontaneously along with the automatic disappearance of the Mantra. Another practice is by keeping one's attention fixed on the Ajna (point between the eyebrows); similarly, one can focus on the Anahata (middle of the chest, or a point just beneath where the rib cage meets). Such practices are very effective in curbing the outgoing tendency of the mind. If you have trouble keeping your mind quiet, you can choose one of these practices that you feel comfortable with, which is natural for you. It will help to keep the mind quiet whenever thoughts are not necessary for the smooth running of your life. 🙏

Among all the steps mentioned above, only this will result in improvement and also quickly....."such as fixing our attention on the awareness of the Self through enquiry." JK: Observe your grief (ex: death of somebody, loss of job, loss of something etc), do not judge, do not think about it in any way, do not analyze it. Just mentally observe it.....while watching, just have a blank mind. Do not allow past memories to create any thought. Still your mind. Since you are NOT generating any thought at this point, an insight about the sorrow arises, and you will realize (insight) how absurd it is to let such events create sorrow. Thoughts generated from past memories (or self-importance) create images of sorrow. Therefore, thoughts generated from past memories prevent insight. The reason other steps will not work in the end because the focus is not on the Self, but rather on another object and it involves generation of thoughts because of discipline. Thoughts that lead to suffering come from the corrupted Self. Unless you dissolve or remove such preconditioning, sorrow-generating thoughts will again arise at the most opportune time. Then you will meditate more, get frustrated, and eventually give up.

So basically, there's 2 entities? The Self and the "one" who needs to keep their awareness on the Self?🤷🏻♀️ It just doesn't make sense! Either we are the Self, or we're an entity trying hard to join with the Self. And what about Sri Ramana's teachings were he said NOTHING exists? If so, why even bother trying to get liberated? 🤯

No my man, don’t kill your mind, you will only suffer more. You can kill you mind without enlightenment, a broken mind is of no use on the path, it’s better to stay sane and balance, people on the enlightened path have often extreme way of thinking because they are looking for an extreme and absolute solution, it might be as well what will hurt them most because they don’t know how to balance themselves. It’s about transcendence not getting rid of anything that we don’t know how to handle. Peace brother ( from a broken mind person trying to fix himself because he went too far)

The enlightened soul doesn't kill the mind, but removes it, since mind is Maya or Prakriti. The light removes darkness. The enlightened yogi removes the veil of Maya with the help of the Supreme Spirit and he goes beyond gunas and is filled with compassion and love, non violence, divinity and pure bliss. Parabhramam is pure bliss, divine, full of noble qualities like compassion, love and embodiment of dharma. This is the highest state of consciousness, also called Samadhi. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.

@@leyendocontigo4631 When they say nothing exists, they mean permanent existence or it always exists as is. You, me, tree, rock, mud, etc do not exist permanently. They transform into somethin else at some point. They say only pure consciousness exists (Brahman) permanently, everything else (not existence but temporary apparition) emanates from the Consciousness. If you can pay no attention to thoughts, try to say in high voice, I am not interested in, let me alone to do this. You are not important. It helped me a lot years ago to quiet down the mind. Time by time I have to come back to shout up to my thoughts to go somewhere else. Because I open up a track of thinking and if not enough aware for a second, they want to come back to occupy my mind. Your thoughts are just whatever information you have gathered from outside. It can never be you. Remember this.

Very good teaching but also, 'Thoughtlessness is to see and to know all dharmas [things] with a mind free from attachment. When in use it pervades everywhere, and yet it sticks nowhere. What we have to do is to purify our mind so that the six vijñānas [aspects of consciousness], in passing through the six gates [sense organs], will neither be defiled by nor attached to the six sense-objects. When our mind works freely without any hindrance, and is at liberty to come or to go, we attain samādhi of prajñā, or liberation. Such a state is called the function of thoughtlessness. But to refrain from thinking of anything, so that all thoughts are suppressed, is to be dharma-ridden, and this is an erroneous view. ' Hui Neng

I fully respect great sages and their knowledge. However, i would like to point out few things . Thoughts are not obstacles, neither are they apart from the ultimate. Thoughts is the flow of energy to reach the ultimate. Not only are they useful in daily dealings, but also provide a sea of energy if learnt to know how to utilize it. Just like a river flows more fiercely due to the presence of rocks ,debris and obstacles. We can see them as obstacles or source of energy is up to us. Thus, rather than rejecting them , becoming aware of their presence, and utilizing the awareness towards the self/ultimate, we can deeply and intensely reach remain on the presence of self. Becoming intense, as well as silent , in both state, remain steadfast and in presence of ultimate/self, only then can we sustain our effort. Otherwise, we will always reject a portion of divine(all is brahman/ultimate) which causes furthur attachment.
