Not entirely, their Google Glass is now sold only for enterprise. Google is simply now letting smaller companies to take a risk and once one of them matures and nailed the product, they can buy them. Many big companies do this to reduce the amount of risk and expenses. What I'm excited is once this become a true consumer product, we just have to wait until HoloLens and Magic Leap technology to miniaturized and cram some of the their technologies into these glasses. That's where things gets more interesting. For the meantime in the near future, these glasses are basically companion devices like smartwatches.

A clip-on version might not be suitable with the current iteration as they're custom-made to fit, which is required since the field of view for the "display" has to be exact for it to be visible to your eyeballs. It could be adjustable though to fit. That being said, you'd need to already own a pair of eyeglasses for it to be a worthy purchase. First gen tech is almost always like this, since the R&D isn't streamlined just yet as well as manufacturing. Give it time and it'll eventually be to the level where people will start investing into it and it'll be prolific enough for us mortals with money sense to buy a pair. More or less, it seems like a good product "of the future" that simply has flaws in it's initial iteration. I'd say that if you: A. Want to be on the cutting edge of tech. B. Want something that's truly nifty that has practical utility both as a smart device AND as, well, your regular prescription glasses. C. You're in the market for a new pair of prescriptive glasses and you've got money to burn. D. Just want to see this get better in the future, because you know it can improve off it's initial attempt. That you should probably buy it. Something like this has a lot of practical day to day usage, and if they could put it on a diet and maybe lower the price by $100, a lot of people could buy into this. Unfortunately, I feel like people are going to need to buy into it now, hardware flaws aside, to ever see it get a second gen. i.e, the early adopters need to come out in force for this. And it's not like the hardware flaws made it unusable, and the software sounds largely fine. People should go for this if they can.
@kornkernel22325 жыл бұрын
True, I think we should not really tell other people to really avoid it if they already have some extra cash to experiment with these devices. We need early adopters for this to become successful. Without them, these kind of innovation will not be even exist. I think the price are actually not that bad. They cost 1000 USD at most, far cheaper than Google Glasses and even more from Microsoft HoloLens (this is a different beast though but I just put here since they are leading us into these AR/MR future). For the most part they just look like normal glasses except for inability to fold like typical eye glasses. So even not in use, you still have functional sun glasses to use. Software-side, this can be easily improve upon as long as the hardware allows it. I hope for 2nd-gen, they should improve the battery and ability to fold. The resolution, maybe but I think this can wait for 3rd gen. It has to improve the common usability of a normal eye glasses and able to use it longer. Resolution is more like a creature comfort as long as it does not affect the core usability. We lived through times with lower resolution screens, at least for us who are older.

Personally, I feel the echo glasses from amazon appear a bit more polished, although, they don't have the lens projection. Not to mention, hundreds cheaper. Alexa essentially does everything a person can possibly think of at the current stage. It seems that the projection, even though it is really cool, can have significant implications on interpersonal relationships. Being consumed by the glasses display, instead of focusing in on the person in front of you. Thos is especially true as the technology becomes more refined.

The problem with these smart glasses is that they try to put too much "smart" in the glasses when I already have a cell phone. For example, I may already have a $500 phone which has amazing graphics capabilities and processors, memory, CPU & ect. but the only function it will serve is to share access to it's sim card to the point that it may as well be a $50 flip phone for all of the tech it actually uses while the designers are trying to put a cell phone in my glasses with no room for a sim card. I wish they would cut down the hardware in the phone so that it simply works as a monitor with the phone providing the functionality & control.

Yeah but I don't care about the weather to have it in my eye socket
@andrew82934 жыл бұрын
If these work with prescription lenzes that will be great. You also have to remember that ordinary glasses frames and cost upward of $300 so if they can improve this and get the price down to about $500 to $600 I see this being very popular

8:45 My favorite piece of wearable tech; pebble time steel. Still nothing comes close in terms of a combination of great battery life, simple operation, notifications, customizability. R.i.p pebbly boi

Wait, hold on? Is it just me woke up 10 minutes ago or I saw Tony Stark in the flesh?! Lol. IMHO, If this company can survive through the next few years, we can see E.D.I.T.H - ish type of tech sooner than we think like in a snap of my finger. But if it isn't, the earlybird buyers will get a "Y.I.K.E.S" or the "Yeah, It's Kinda Early Smartglass" product. So hopefully they still be up for business before a bigger company stole the spotlight.

Now that is what 1st gen smart glasses needed to look like. Definitely going to keep an eye on later generations of this type of product.

I was so interested in this! I had been just going through some older videos and I thought- this sounds like a really neat idea. So I started to look it up only to find that '&-_#$ Google went and bought the company and then proceeded to do what Google does with all the toys it plays with after it gets bored. That is- they threw it in the bin. What a damn shame.

Maybe they can improve it with an external battery with a thin wire you attatch at the eyeglasses stem. Like what fbi uses on their earpiece. This will make the glasses lighter also easier to change battery. Then just remove the battery if you want use it as a regular prescription eyeglasses. Also the ring controller needs revision but their right on with the concept. Better than touching the eyeglass temples to cobtrol it.

These seem really convenient, but I'm against smart glasses. I want it to be my conscious choice when I interact with technology. I want to feel like I still have control over my smart stuff, and notifications just coming into my field of view whenever takes away that control.

Funny, the notification for this video came up at work when I was discussing the idea of having a smartphone in your eyes or near with a heads up display instead of a proper screen like a phone. Kinda cool actually. I slightly hope this serves as a segway to potentially implement the features and hardware of a smartphone into ourselves, with the necessary safeguards and such in place for security and safety reasons. Glasses that do this seem to be the much more convenient option though than something like an implant.

Appreciate the clips of how it looks from the wearer's point of view. I am curious if you filmed this with a camera and overlaid the notifications, or if this is actual footage from the glasses?

Dang it, I would absolutely love these things! Holy heck I've never wanted a pair of glasses more. Unfortunately I live in Utah, which is the complete wrong half of the country. Hopefully they'll not only be better, but also more widely available in the next couple years. Maybe some competition will arise.

"Make sure to charge your glasses soon." It's cool, but I genuinely don't see anything going for it. I can get a smartwatch for way less and well, do all of these features. My gear S3 from like 4 years ago does all of this and it's MUCH cheaper.

None of these will succeed, honestly, the last thing I want is more information blaring into my eyes, and more things to think about. None of them do anything better than what a smartphone does. Nothing has ever been successful as the phone / computer paradigm and trying to get people to buy tablets, smart shoes, smart watches, wireless earbuds, and now smart glasses, doesn't work.

I think there’s potential here. The UI is really nice. If they can find a way to make the glasses slimmer and lighter and maybe bump up the display resolution, this might be it chief!
