Penn Tarleton The Supercomputers were connected to the video games and then they go back and explain the background of Supercomputers and give the example of real world simulation to show what these things do. they do mess up when they talk about CPU and GPU but it still has a thesis. The thesis is that Supercomputers have many uses and what they are used for today, to show the veiwer that what they are.

Yes the video communicates horribly. Supercomputers have always ran with problems broken up to process pieces of the problem in parallel on different machines. The world's first supercomputers required their software to use a divide and conquer approach. That's not new to GPU's or supercomputers built mostly with GPU's. Simulations were popular on supercomputers in the 80's too. Also, modern games don't run on supercomputers. They'd be unaffordable for each player if they did. Modern supercomputers are to old supercomputers what modern pc's are to old pc's. They're just 1000's of times faster with more processing cores and 1000's of times more memory.

Think about this. We, for the first time in our history, our having IT specialists, programmers, etc. enter the workforce who actually grew up with this technology (albeit archaic). What am I saying? The ability for these people to recognize their passion earlier than ever before is increasing their potential. The next 20 years in electronic development are going to make our "electronic society" today look like the stone age. I'm fucking excited.

Those people are already in the workforce. The government, being the dipshits that they are, decided that all we needed to learn was microsoft office. So there are a few generations entering the workforce now that only know how to play games, google and microsoft office unless they found out about and taught themselves these skills independently. In the UK at least. With early computers for example the ZX Spectrum you had to actually learn to program to get much out of them modern computers are designed for the lowest common denominator and you have to go searching to even discover that programming is a thing (other than the abstract concept that someone somewhere makes these programmes).

My fucking ipad is more powerful than those crays these days ! These days they just get OFF THE SHELF parts link them in a CLUSTER and call it a fucking super computer. see the difference ? We will see REAL super computers when you can have carbon non silicon based computers with optical setups that each processor can run 100,000 faster than a single processor now.
