That's the wrong question in my opinion. The question should be; Can we ever get rid of nuclear weapons? The answer is, sadly, no. It's a pandora's box that has been opened and cannot be closed on the world. Just like humans discovering fire or the firearm once something is discovered it cannot be "un-discovered". Someone, somewhere will have a nuclear bomb. It's best to be prepared for it by having your own.

@@ZapejoMC the reason for this common idea that militarization leads to breakthroughs in science is that because of militarization ppl(government) spends a whoooooole lot money on research, funding and all the stuff in comparison to when science is used for commercial use. For comparison USA spends ~600-700 billion dollars annually on Military and ~100-150 billion dollars on science. Well if you switched the order of spendings Im pretty sure we would have breakthroughs in no time

@erudolph
@erudolph 4 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern, but to have nothing we would have to assume that the world is full of humans who respect life and honor homeland rights, which is not the case. Unfortunately, the world has shown over and over that there are countries where their philosophy is to raid, conquer and destroy. Our stockpile serves as a deterrent more than anything to Russia and China, where dictators and other rulers have constant tension with the US. It's not bad to have a gun in your house if all the criminals have them too. Please note that I am not equating other countries with criminals, but rather making a separate analogy. The people of China and Russia are wonderful.

In our current state, I don't believe we will have to ever use nuclear weapons. So as long as the military and the government keeps funding these supercomputers, humanity will progress. Let's just hope that some of these computers fall into the hands of hospitals and neurologists and not just stay 'military reserved' forever

Maybe a VR training environment for surgeons, pilots , fire fighters etc to use on head sets connected to gaming rigs. There also using VR for exposure therapy for fears like hights mabey use it to help with fear of spiders as well and realistic spiders would be very resource heavy seen as they move and you want much more resources to develop on than the game will need to run.

@@Randomguy-wd5lw While 200 nuclear detonations wouldn't be enough to directly kill most life on earth, it would certainly INDIRECTLY kill most life on earth. Studies show that as few as 100 SMALL nuclear detonations could potentially cripple agriculture worldwide for at least 25 years. The ash would rise up into the atmosphere and ruin the Ozone layer for at least a decade causing skin-cancer to skyrocket. Shockingly few nuclear weapons could irrevocably damage our planet and environment, even if the actual explosions aren't what cause the most death.

5:35 yeah, well here is the rub.. we disarm, no one else does, then we become vulnerable. The only way nuclear disarmament in my view is even remotely possible is if there is an ironclad defense against them so that an adversary would find nukes absolutely worthless. Good luck with that. So, as long as we maintain or status and we have enemies who have nukes, we will too. And we need to maintain those weapon and make sure they will work if needed otherwise there goes our deterrent. I can't stand people who are like well we signed this thing 40 years ago and thus we should actually do what it says.. well that's just not going to happen, use your feakin head, seriously.
