Great Big Story

Berlin-based artist Joseph Marr doesn't make sculptures from bronze, marble and clay instead he uses sugar! His sugary and edible exhibitions have gained him a lot of attention and even though he never expected this, everyone licks his artwork.
This is how to make incredible art out of sugar...
See more of Joseph's work on his website: josephmarr.de/
Visit the Open Heart in Berlin until September 30th at Park am Gleisdreieck
Möckernstraße 26, 10963 Berlin, Germany.

Artists themselves: Often creative and passionate about their art Visitors of musea: Say "wow that's deep" at every art piece they see, interact in a weird way every time they get the chance and walk away thinking they are creative minds themselves

@@LamarqMarcutteno true art lover would do this... these are consumers doing this- people diconnected with reality based on the normalization of heavy consumerism around every aspect of their life. they think everything is a product, including people. i also dont mean to sound arrogant because i dont necessarily fully blame them as they are a product of their environment, and its a very common perspective. still not cool as adults always have the ability to correct themselves.

I could understand if the child snuck around the parent to get a lick, but no, the adult actually gave permission and even picked the child up to lick a display piece in a museum. Excellent parenting. 😂

I refuse to believe these people aren’t being told they’re allowed to taste it. Ain’t no way all these adults thought it was okay to alter a sculpture in an art museum

The concept and sculptures themselves are beautiful, the artists’ reaction is perfect and those who feel so compelled to lick (and worse yet, allow their children to lick) something public and in a museum, no less, is - shocking. You know dam well there were no signs around encouraging people to lick the sculptures, so it was people just thinking “Sugar? That must mean I can and should taste it.” Merely thinking something and assuming your thoughts are therefore facts, is not only dangerous but puts you up to be a contestant for a Darwin Award 🥉. At a certain point, you just can’t protect every person; some prove to not be capable of basic survival skills or proper etiquette, even in “modern times”. It only takes one small mistake to screw your heath/life up, people. It’s an action that reflects taking life for granted; which makes me think of how well the irony falls onto the meaning and medium of the art work. I encourage anyone reading this to look up Mothy Python’s Flying Circus Edible Art Sketch, for a bit of comfort through all this. “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like.” - Christine Porter, Gelett Burgess, Mark Twain (apparently) & John Cleese
