Dart pistol is more convenient because there is more room for error. You have less chances to hit with the rifle, making misses more punishing that if you were to miss a shot on the pistol. It's literally like choosing between and AR or a Sniper in an fps.

Technically speaking higher damage is better than higher firerate, as more hits also means that the defense of the enemy will get subtracted from your damage more times, but there is no such drawback for increasing damage.

You can get both in any world at the start of Hardmode as long as you have an underground crimson and corruption, because remember the dryad sells the seeds for the opposite evil in Hardmode when in a graveyard, and mimics can spawn naturally in their own biome. If you have an afk farm, setting up a mimic arena for either biome won't be too difficult.

The ammunition for the guns are also well balanced, what I mean is, the cursed darts compliments the Dart Rifle and it's slow fire by having a crap to of projectiles rain which even in "not-so-ideal-angles" it can still deal a considerable amount of damage, while the Pistol Variation has Ichor bullets which lowers defense and spread out into more bullets to help compensate for the lower base damage Not saying switching the ammo of both will hinder their effectiveness, just saying that terraria did a good job choosing the niches of the ammo for the weapons

The difference in time to kill comes down to how defense works. Simply put, the faster and smaller damage weapons do worse against defense, so the dart pistol is slightly more effected by it. Not enough to matter, but it exists.

Both of them are really good and equal, so it doesn't really matter if you go for either one of them. Personally, I'd go for the dart pistol, because of increased fire rate and pairs well with ichor darts.

I like the dart guns because, as a ranger, I can inflict ichor without worrying about sacrificing either bullets or arrows that can do much more damage than the ichor variants of each. And since the darts split to cover a large area, I can just pop one or two darts and go back to mowing the foes or bosses down. It's really good

I don't think that ammo consumption is relevant when it comes to evaluating these weapons: Almost every type of dart is incredibly cheap to craft, and now that Ammo is going to stack to 9999, the difference is going to be even less significant. I personally find it quite satisfying to take out the Mechanical bosses with the dart rifle, since crystal darts do a wonderful jump of dealing consistent damage to multi-hitbox enemies, even if the dart rifle isn't the highest DPS ranged weapon that biome mimics can drop.

I think the best bet would be to get a stack of ichor darts and the pistol, and use them in combination with a rapid-fire gun and your bullet of choice (for example, the chain gun snd chlorophyte bullets); use the darts to inflict ichor and the chain gun to deal damage, and just switch back to the darts when you need to refresh

I actually grew to like the dart rifle with cursed darts more due to bringing pretty insane crowd control and single target damage to the table. With the cursed flames splitting off, hitting something big like the boss often hits them 2 to 3 times and the cursed inferno debuff was also heavily buffed. In some runs, I keep using the dart rifle until the lunar pillar event just for how versatile and strong it is, especially considering how early it is accessible. The dart pistol with ichor darts is still a very strong option of course! Although the golden shower will eventually take its space as utility weapon.

well i must say i did used the dart rifle but it has some unique ability when u shoot in the terrain the darts will automaticlly ricochet in to ways to left and right which further increase the dmg when it comes to events

There’s a very underrated weapon, The Flower of Frost, it’s rapid fire rate, bouncing, high damage projectiles makes it great at most hardmode bosses, It’s even decent against Plantera and Golem It has a downside of limited range, but you can arc your shots to increase it slightly It’s not anywhere as good for endgame bosses past Golem,

The different dart guns don’t really affect it too much, especially since crafting ammo gives you 100 shots each time for very few resources. It’s mostly personal preference but if you don’t have any particular preference then feel free to just use your world evil version (I usually get the pistol since ichor is so good, and the cursed darts only really kill Destroyer which isn’t an issue)

I used the dart pistol with cursed darts against the destroyer in my most recent drunk world playthrough. It absolutely shredded the giant metal worm. If you’re a daedalus stormbow hater like me then these weapons are perfect for the mech bosses, especially when given the darts they function best with.

Higher damage always scales better due to circumventing high enemy defense stats more effectively (replace "more effectively" with "at all", if comparing to a weapon that is not even viable). The Dart Rifle might actually beat the Megashark at cheesing Duke for an early Tsunami, and its high base damage was much more important back before the Fishron AI buff: back then, you could just enrage the boss to cheese it even more easily, but at the expense of needing higher base damage to even hurt the boss for more than 1 point of damage. The Dart Rifle also shares the purple and black motif of the Onyx Blaster (another favorite of mine, both for its look and its feel), which, I mean...just look at the color scheme I use for my own branding. It works.

I like to use the icor ammo as a secondary to debuff bosses, so I find the pistol more useful to spray a few shots and switch off. The dart rifle is undisputably better against the destroyer but the pistol is better for crowd control, both are good for queen slime. I would say its one of the best balanced crimson vs corruption pairs, especially with the ammo difference. Useful tip: take a blowgun or whatever it is from the witch doctor to the WoF fight and then go to your underground evil and farm up a few cursed flames or icor, it makes a ton of ammo and most of the utility and a good bit of damage comes from the darts, not the guns. You can use this until you get an actual hard mode weapon; the icor in particular is great for the high defense enemies you'll face early hardmode with little other way of killing

I use Ichor Dart Pistol on my main character to debuff enemies as it's the best method of applying Ichor, although I could use Ichor Flasks due to being melee

I guess it mostly comes down to if you're trying to dps armor based enemies or hp based ones, but you'd want a raw dps increase on the faster one to get an advantage besides spray and pray/slightly more granular dmg

Yeah these are good, but the hallowed counterpart is the Daedalus Stormbow, and well, that's... you know. I mainly use the Dart Pistol to debuff enemies with Ichor, then switch to Megashark or Onyx Blaster with Crystal Bullets for DPS. However, you can also do the opposite, using Uzi for ichor and Dart Pistol (with Crystal Bullets) for damage. Or you can be simple and just use Dart Pistol with Ichor Darts for an all-in-one solution.

Dart weapons far outclass post nerf daedulus stormbow as a overall weapon,I tested the kill times of daedulus stormbow and dart pistol against queen slime and mechs and dart pistol did slightly better,it not needing a ridiculous arena for plantera,golem,or lunatic cultist makes it a decent bit better as a bossing weapon overall. And then there's the fact that daedulus is horrible underground and dart pistol is arguably the best weapon in the game underground.

When I got terraria for the switch I got my hands on the dart pistol and it helped me shred the destroyer with the Ichor darts
